The Wire (1 Viewer)

Just finished the first 3 episodes from Netflix.Hooked already!Next disc should be here tomorrow.
That's great. I have found that it take some people 4-6 episodes to get into it. You're hooked on 3. God speed.
Cool, that means my next disc will be kick-###. It's little things that get me into a show. Attention to detail. In the last episode, McNulty was meeting the FBI guy in a parking lot while in his car. The Fed pulls up next to his passenger side, McNulty has to lean all the way over and physically roll down his window to talk and says "you obviously never worked patrol" And the Fed realizes his mistake and drives around so they are driver-to-driver. Very realistic.Plus, I'm a huge fan of The Shield and I love the imperfections of heroes.

Disc 3 (Season 1 Ep 6-8) is just in...loving it!

OK, I got a question.

My wife didn't get into the show right off the bat because it's a bit too "urban" for her, if you get my drift. She's not into any kind of glorification of a thug life. Well, The Sopranos are fine and she does love The Shield.

Anyway, it looks like Season Two involves dock workers. Is that what the show does? A whole new storyline for the season?

If so, does anyone have a brief synopsis of what each seasons subject matter is?

Too urban?? Yikes.Every season does have a new storyline. Although (without giving too much away) characters, and themes certainly come back in each season.Enjoy it. It's a great show. And get the wife to not worry about "urban" stuff.

My in-laws are watching it with subtitles :thumbdown: :moneybag:

Just finished Season 1 and absolutely loved it! The first disc of Season 2 is on the way from Netflix.

I don't want to read any of this thread in fears of spoilers but which season is generally considered the best so far?

For me...31245Many people put 2 at the bottom because it's primary plot is different from the rest.

for me 2 was hard to watch. I stopped watching at season 2 because it was so bad. this thread got me watching again, glad I did.

Is there a consensus on 4 & 5 being bad. Without giving away too much...why?

edit: please avoid saying if a major character dies. McNulty is awesome and I don't want to know if or when he gets it.

the game goes on

SNOOP DOGGED: The Wire's hit woman Felicia "Snoop" Pearson has been arrested by Baltimore police on minor drug charges after being detained for refusing to cooperate as a witness in a murder trial, according to allhiphop.com. Members of the Homicide Unit entered her Northeast Baltimore home with a warrant, and found two marijuana cigars and some residue. Police were seeking Snoop to testify in the murder trial of her associate Steven James Lashley, accused of stabbing three men, one fatally, allegedly in Snoop's defense, after an argument inside a restaurant. A warrant was issued for Snoop on July 1, after she missed an April 21 trial date. The character portrayed an androgynous, cold-blooded killer for a drug gang in the HBO series

Good for Snoop for not snitchin'And marijuana -- is that even a crime really?

My favourite line in the entire series was when Bunny was walking through the school, and a young kid (~8) says, "Yo, he po-lice," as they passed in the hallway.

Mine's the opening scene in the opening season when Jimmy is asking the guy why they continually let the guy in the craps game even though they know he's going to try to rip them off.Hey, this is America.

"The pawns, they get capped quick, they be out the game early." "Unless they some smart ### pawns".

Have avoided this thread until I watched Season V which I finally picked up today. I now have a full HD viewing system so this is just gonna make this experience even that much better. I'm gonna watch season IV again for the third time first though, so I'll be back in about a month. :shrug:

Just watched Gone Baby Gone and noticed Omar Little as a po-lice officer, kinda funny
I also just watched Gone Baby Gone. I noticed both Omar as a police officer, and Beadie Russell as an irresponsible mom.Also, I saw 25th Hour a few weeks ago, and Senator Clay Davis was in it as a detective, playing that role the exact same way -- "Sheeeeeeeeeeeit."

My thoughts about episodes 1-3:

mytagid = Math.floor( Math.random() * 100 );document.write("

I like the newsroom angle because I’ve been involved in the media at many levels over the past 12 years and I appreciate some of the things they introduced. Simon knows this end of things as well as anyone and the inner workings and the current times makes for interesting TV when we are talking about newspapers and the cut-throat mentality of those who work in the media.

Why can’t Prop Joe see what Marlo is up to? It’s pretty clear.

####### with Omar is probably not a great idea but it certainly adds some serious drama to season 5. Butchie getting killed is messed up but it’s great for the story. When they told Omar in Spanish, classic moment…and a good example of why this show is just so much better than almost anything else by a wide margin.

Getting rid of Burrell probably wasn’t the best idea as the Mayor seems to be waffling at the wrong time. Even if you want to can Burrell he does have deeper roots and wasn’t causing major waves with the budget cuts.

I’m worried about Bubs. I want to see things end well for him but of course that is not likely.

I don’t care for the McNulty serial killer shtick thus far. I think that is pushing the limits of reality which this show has never had to do. This makes me think they probably realized they would ruin the show going to much further with it because they are running out of angles.

Someone said they thought season 5 was the worst, we’ll see. I don’t think that is possible unless people don’t like that few new characters are added making it less interesting to some. I have the rest of the episodes to watch but I’m thinking I’ll rate this somewhere in the middle. Maybe not. Even if it is the worst season it would be the best Sopranos season and I love the Sopranos. *** SPOILER ALERT! Click this link to display the potential spoiler text in this box. ***");document.close();

I'll of course come back and read everyone else's comments on season 5 later, but I wanted to save this for me to look back at later. I am already sad thinking about these last episodes being the last time I'll get to watch a new episode of this show. I set aside two full days pretty much to watch each season when I got it new. I have always liked those days.

:banned:Brother got the complete series for Christmas today. Looking forward to stealing it and watching all 5 seasons again. :banned:
Are their any special features that youre aware of?About the only thing I didnt like about the seasons when I got them thru Netflix, was that like the only special feature was a tree diagram of characters...No interviews, commentary, behind the scenes, nothing.For your typical movie, I usually care less about this stuff, but for The Wire, I really want to see/hear/take in AMAP

I liked this as well, although Gus and the spanish chick were the only people there I liked watching

Why can’t Prop Joe see what Marlo is up to? It’s pretty clear. I think Prop Joe is pretty aware of Marlo, and knows what hes capable of. I forget the exact extent of his helping of Marlo through 3 episodes, but I think he does so to either be on Marlo's good side, make himself less of an enemy than the other kingpins, and to just prevent Marlo from killing him

####### with Omar is probably not a great idea but it certainly adds some serious drama to season 5. Butchie getting killed is messed up but it’s great for the story. Even if you want to can Burrell he does have deeper roots and wasn’t causing major waves with the budget cuts. I thought they were pretty explicit in the show as to why, no? I dont remember myself, but if they werent, part of it may have been to just get Daniels higher up as quick as possible

I’m worried about Bubs. I want to see things end well for him but of course that is not likely. 1 of the few things I disliked about season 5 is Bubbs has very little screentime until the last few episodes

I don’t care for the McNulty serial killer shtick thus far. I think that is pushing the limits of reality which this show has never had to do. This makes me think they probably realized they would ruin the show going to much further with it because they are running out of angles. I wasnt a fan of this either, but I dont think it was due to running out of angles. McNulty wants Marlo, and he sees this as a way to get extra manpower and equipment to help him do so

Someone said they thought season 5 was the worst, we’ll see. I don’t think that is possible unless people don’t like that few new characters are added making it less interesting to some. I have the rest of the episodes to watch but I’m thinking I’ll rate this somewhere in the middle. Maybe not. Even if it is the worst season it would be the best Sopranos season and I love the Sopranos. I would say almost everyone that Ive seen here and in a few other threads here says its either 2 or 5. I cant call any of them worst, and whatever my least favorite season was/is, I still like it more than any other season of any other show. Most people's dislike for 5 seems to be because of teh media/journalism angle and finding it boring or not liking the characters. Since you like this angle, I have a feeling youll think this is 1 of the better seasons. When I watched the season a 2nd time, I didnt realize how slow the 1st few episodes were. If you consider it as good or better than other seasons at this point, youre in for a treat bc it only gets better and the last few episodes are just brilliant. They leave pretty much no questioned unanswered and wrap everything up superbly - best finale of a series Ive ever seen.

Nice with packing it into a couple days...I also would always watch at least 3 in a row when tuning in for the 1st time. Its too good to watch 1 and wait a week (and too much goes on), or to just watch one if the 1st viewing..Check above spoiler for a few things - I didnt give away anything to you though, just some thoughts

My thoughts about episodes 1-3:
that's what ruins the season most for me. what made the show great was how realistic it was. season 5 doesn't live up to that standard, IMO. most of the newsroom stuff is awesome though.

Bunk has too many good lines to quote

Love Slim Charles at the end of the season 5 finale

"My name is my name." -Marlo

I only got a brief look at it, but I recall that there are commentaries, a few prequels and a gag reel. Nothing too major, I'm just glad to be able to revisit from start to finish.

Episodes 4-6:

mytagid = Math.floor( Math.random() * 100 );document.write("

Ok I stayed up until 4 am watching the next three and the drama is high, everything counts this season. First off some good quotes:

Bunk: #### you and your red ribbon.

Marlo: That's some spiderman #### right there

Prop Joe, come on buddy. You had to see that coming and I think they did well at playing Prop Joe as being kind of behind the times as a reason he went down. When Marlo wanted to wash all that money it probably should have been the last straw for Prop Joe, well or Marlo actually wanting to go after Omar. Prop Joe should have talked with the co-op and had Marlo killed. they make it seem like Marlo is so much more cut throat than these other guys but in reality all of those co-op guys are going to be straight coldblooded. Avon Barksdale sealed Joe's fate for 100k, not sure why. He could have went to joe and said give me 250k to keep your exclusive rights with the Greeks. Then Slim turning down the East-side lead, I liked that but I think Marlo knew that was coming. Marlo knows Cheese is a pretty dumb gangster but that helps him in the end. Again, why the others didn't protest simply because of Marlo being stronger is questionable. If they all went against marlo he'd be done supply or no supply. Just drive over to D.C. to bridge the gap or Phila, or even NYC. Drug dealers can find drugs at the wholesale level, this I'm sure of.

The newspaper reporter throwing in the homemade quotes irritates me and even though senior people in news are incompetent at times, seeing through the stuff that guy is getting seems likely. But they've covered all the tracks well and I guess this played into McNulty's hands and that was the big surprise although I didn't care for it. *** SPOILER ALERT! Click this link to display the potential spoiler text in this box. ***");document.close();

Seeing some of the old Sbatcas, Cuddys,a dn the kid in the boys home was nice tying everything back together and I like the political stuff in this final season. And the lead city council woman? Off the charts hot. Her and McNulty's ex wife are yummy.
There is just so much going on and I have 4 more episodes, the last 4 to watch tonight. It's sad but it's also a show you can watch for many years to come and get stuff you missed along the way. I just hope they resolve some things, but yet let others be left in the air.

Season 5 though isn't going to be better than season 3 for me, this much I already know. I still think season 3 was the best for a lot of reasons but the character development of really interesting characters in 3 beats the others IMO. Plus the whole Hamsterdam angle.

I'm already on record as saying this is the best show I've ever watched, and I have had no reason to waver from that opinion since I typed it over a year ago. But I firmly believe that The Wire does a better job of resolving major issues and plotlines than most shows out there. I wasn't disappointed then, and I'm not disappointed now, over a year later.
