The Wire (1 Viewer)

I haven't watched a minute of Breaking Bad but there's something about a non-cable show about drug dealing that I can't get on board with. It's like I need that for the reality of it.
Breaking Bad is on cable. If you get the DVD's, everything is uncut. Swearing, nudity, violence. Pretty much loaded with things you won't see on ABC/NBC etc.
Why are you referring to ABC and NBC here when the show is being made for AMC?I can't understand why I can't get a straight answer to the following question: if I watch reruns on AMC, will they be shown as they were originally aired?
Nobody knows or cares?

I think you should be able to get the gist of the show on AMC. Maybe you won't get some of the major cussing (I think AMC allows "damn", "s###" and some of the lesser words, but not much else), but I don't think that just because you can't hear the exact word the character is saying, you won't get the idea of what's taking place. As far as content goes, I've only seen the original uncut version and not the AMC one. I don't know how AMC feels about showing drug use, violence, etc. If you can get your hands on the DVDs or stream it via Netflix, that would obviously be ideal. But I don't think you're going to miss out on how GREAT THE SHOW IS!!1!1 if you catch it on AMC. But I welcome anyone to challenge that opinion.

Thanks. I guess I don't understand why any of this editing is happening when the show is being produed for AMC.

I'm midway through season 2 of Breaking Bad. It's good, for sure. But comparing it to The Wire? C'mon...
it gets better.both are great shows and probably two of the best series ever put on television.I happen to prefer The Wire for several reasons, but can see why others would vote the other way.
I'm further a long in Season 2 now and I just feel like the show is kind of predictable or cheesy or unrealistic or something. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's a combination of things. I like it, but I am not getting any greatness out of it. I mean, Dexter also has some predictability/unrealistic flaws, but when I am done with an episode of Dexter I am ready to watch the next one right away. With Breaking Bad, I do not have the urge. The Wire, on the other hand, when I re-watched the DVDs with people I could crush a season in 1-2 days.IMO The Wire is in its own league right now. Game of Thrones, while a totally different genre, is the only thing close to as compelling with characters/unpredictability and maybe Boardwalk Empire.
please don't compare the wire to games of thrones. games of thrones is ####
The Wire and Breaking Bad are both very very close for me. Breaking Bad is more intense, and certain aspects of it (particularly the cinematography) are much better IMO. The Wire's story and epic arc was better. A lot depends on how Breaking Bad wraps up... because we all know what some people thought of that last season of the Wire :)Game of Thrones is excellent though, not sure how you can say it's ####. I will say the books are better, but the show is well done. The first season followed almost exactly with plus/minus scenes, but even the dialogue was the same. Season 2 started to diverge a little on more major points, even if the overall arc was the same.
loved season 1 of G of T. season 2 is just bad, i stopped watching

1) He was complaining about Breaking Bad being a non cable show and I was explaining that it was a cable show that had items that would never be seen on ABC/NBC etc2) The original airing and reruns are both slightly edited on AMC. That is why I already recommended if you want to watch them uncut you have to get the dvd's a couple of times in the thread.

Just rewatched season three. Just love the scene when McNulty is describing to Keema his date with Agostino. How he felt so out of place and looked down upon depsite him being one of a handful of killer detectives dealing with real #### out there. How she looked at him like an idiot. God that's a great scene.

Another great line is the secretary chick who can decipher all the street language telling Lester, while undercover, "damn calvin you know i got the bingo tonight." Giving all these side characters such great moments is one of the many reasons why this show is just perfection.

The Wire

Breaking Bad

Mad Men

Band of Brothers

Godfather 1 & 2.

Seinfeld

Maybe add The West Wing and Soprano's to this list.

This #### on par with anything Michelangelo did.

ETA: Funny that anybody thinks that nobody likes season two. It's as good as any other.

The actor who portrays Ziggy, James Ransone, is a Baltimore native and has described the character as representative of the difficulties people face just trying to get by in Baltimore. The character's creators have deemed him "the angry prince of goofs."[2]In an online interview David Simon stated that Ziggy is loosely based on a real stevedore named Pinkie Bannion whose antics have become a local legend around the docks. According to Simon, Bannion "used to take his duck to the bar and repeatedly expose 'pretty boy' and all else. As they said in Bawlmer about Pinkie: 'That boy ain't right.'

David Simon was on Real Time with Bill Maher.Superb commentary by him.
Yeah, the guy is very bright.
I was embarrassed for Maher and the panelists, who by comparison came off small, simple, and petty. Those four are in show business, Simon is in the truth business.
That Katrina person was so annoying. She couldn't shut up, and kept making awful alliterations and weird statements."We are moving on the movement of moves that make movements happen." And her face looked like she needed a bowel movement.

She reminded me of a sorority chick on coke. Did she really reference campaigning in poetry?

Waaaaayyyyyyyyyy late to this party but I finally decided to d/l the first two seasons.

For some reason I didn't have HBO when this show started. Never got around to/put off trying to catch up.

Finished the first season last night (watched the first couple of S2 as well).

Great show
