The Wire (2 Viewers)

Stringer and Avon's unraveling in Season 3 is just terrific stuff.
Let's simplify this: everything is terrific except for Ziggy and the knobs at the newspaper.
Ziggy was necessary
Just watched the series for the first time over the last month or so. Show was excellent, really enjoyed it.

Favorite season was Season 2 by far, I loved all the different story lines and characters in that season. Ziggy was in my mind necessary to the story line, and his Fredo level of weakness/incompetence was executed beautifully. I feel like the writers wanted you to feel his ineptitude and not like him watching, puts you in the place of everyone around him in the show. In that light, Ziggy was perfect.

Still :lmao: at the stupid duck on a leash.

In reference to Omar's ending, I was wondering... does anyone know if the canceling of the show contributed to the decision to have Omar taken out? Were the makers of the show aware at the time it was the last season and so were willing to take out characters they might have otherwise kept around for future seasons? Or was it strictly a choice for the story done thinking there might still be a season 6?

They knew it was the final season. What they didn't know was that HBO was only ordering 10 episodes instead of the normal 13. So things had to be merged, truncated, or deleted. I blame that aspect for some of the problems with the season, but the way the show ended was still great and fitting.

I'm on my third trip through the series. It's never going to be good as the first time, but it's still great entertainment. Wish I could say it was one of those where you keep picking up new bits but it isn't. It's just damned good story telling and film making.

Wow I completely disagree. 2nd time through was the best and even after my 5th viewing I still pick up little references here and there.

I agree with this, although I'm only on my fourth viewing.

8. Seventh
I watch five episodes every day while I eat lunch.

I find that Wednesdays are the best episodes.
Wednesdays? :lmao:

I'M SURE THERE'S AN EPISODE OF "NCIS" ON OUT THERE FOR YOU!

Started season 5 last night. McNulty crossed that line from loveable drubk to complete ahole now. It was one thing when he was boozing and cheating on his ex wife but now he's cheating on sweet Beadie?

And wtf is with the dead body strangler ####? I wish bunk would have tore him a new one instead of walking away.

Stay tuned for redemption in the third act.

Well that was fantastic. Little farfetched in the final season but still wonderful.

My favorite scene of season five is the FBI breaking down the serial killer's personality.

My favorite scene of that season is when Rawls? is talking to McNulty and and says: Tell me you didn't kill them?

Literally every word of this tweet except possibly "James" and "Franco" sounds incredible:

HBO '70s porn drama written by David Simon & @pelecanos1 gets pilot order with James Franco starring & Michelle MacLaren directing.
Really?

Franco comes across as a good enough guy. Not a bad actor either.
I think he's fine, was more about the rest of the details/participants being incredibly awesome.

Just binged watched all five seasons over the last couple of weeks. Right up there with BB as the best show ever.

Go find the Omar Comin Supercut on YouTube.

It's every Omar scene put together and is better than most movies.

So I've been somewhat going through this thread and it makes a ton of sense now that I hear that HBO forced the writers to end the show earlier than anticipated. I got to episode 7 of the last season and was panicking because I couldn't see them wrapping up too neatly and I had hope for some resolutions. Obviously the point of this show is that there are no resolutions to the drug/gang/poverty problems in our big cities but nonetheless I had hoped to walk about satisfied like I did after BB.

It wrapped up fine enough for me regarding the cops with the bar scene and I didn't get too much about the dock story or the newspaper story, but I wanted to ask a few questions to see if I "got" the final resolutions to the following characters:

1. Randy Wagstaff (kid) - He was my favorite character, but after he blows off Bunk in the group home and shoves the kid up the stairs he's never referenced again. We just assume he turned into a gangster?

2. Michael (kid) - I take it he's going to be the next Omar? I dug his developing story and the dichotomy between Namond and him (where the "bad" kid becomes good and vice versa).

3. Duquan (kid) - He becomes the next Bubbles? Was sad to see him go that way, but the scene where he hustles Prezbo (and Prezbo knowing it but giving him money any way) was very powerful.

4. Herc - Did Levy ever discover that he was the source? The sentiment that he did and just doesn't care because he actually profited from it?

5. Cutty - After a really significant arc to start, he just essentially keeps on giving the kids an outlet and banging their mothers? He was barely in the final season. did I miss something?

6. Marlo - So he goes back into the streets and blows the whole deal? Are we to assume then that actually everybody goes down (Ronnie, Levy, McNulty, Lester, etc.)? If so I just wish they would have made this more clear.

TIA WAY

In what was a light season 5 that was a highlight...
That was awesome.

I loved the nod to some of the popular shows in the final season. They referenced Criminal Minds, Law and Order:SVU, and Dexter that I caught.
