The Wire (2 Viewers)

The one stealing the cars was Randy Wagstaff, now living in a group home and not cooperating with Bunk because he's been screwed over by the cops so often.
I remember it as Donut stealing the cars.http://www.hbo.com/thewire/cast/characters/donut.shtml
Yeah, you're right. It wasn't Kenard though, that's for sure. His feet probably wouldn't have reached the pedals.Whatever happened to Donut, anyway? Last I remember, the bad cop broke his fingers.

watched it again

that little kid pouring lighter fluid on the cat before killing omar...wow

I think episode 59 is the single best episode of the Wire that I've ever seen. And that's saying a lot.
Very powerful stuff. You can't tear your eyes away for the last 20 minutes. And the teaser for the finale, wow.I love the reoccurring cameos as well.

watched 58 last night finally

what an anticlimactic ending for omar

i have no problem with it as far as reality and what they are communicating but it was still a let down

glad you guys cleared up the kenard/donut thing. those kids look nothing alike. i actually think kenard and bug look alot alike though. donut is much thinner in the face. looks like a mini busta rhymes.

havent watched it yet but i had a feeling 59 wouuld be the big daddy.

every season the 2nd to last episode is the climax

the last episode is the come down and tie up

at least thats how I remember it

Sounds like many of you who are posting the spoilers about episode #58, don’t really seem to grasp how/why the scene unfolded the way it did. Maybe we can revisit it once everyone is caught up. It runs back all the way to season 3, but you have to be a "true blue" (obsessed) Wire fan to piece it all together.
I'm feeling inferior in my Wireness now. The episode aired, so tell us what you are referring to please.
I just read a suggestion on the TWOP boards that Kenard was originally introduced as one of the little kids "Playing Omar" in Season 3, as opposed to his introduction in Season 4.I'm not sure that really adds a whole lot of substance to Omar's death. In either case, the story is the same. Even long time masters of "the game" are helpless as the players get younger, and more sociopathic with each generation. This is another area where I feel the shorter season this year has somewhat hurt the show. I know they've tried a bit this year to distance Kenard from the somewhat likable car stealing scamp he was in Season 4, but it just felt rushed. To the point that I felt they had to go with a cliche (him abusing the cat in the alley) in order to establish his character to the extent that it made sense for him to cap Omar.
I dont Kenard was the one stealing cards. That was Donut. Kenard was the one who ripped off Namond, IIRC.
That's correct. Kenard was the one who ripped off Namond, and got beaten up by Michael. The one stealing the cars was Randy Wagstaff, now living in a group home and not cooperating with Bunk because he's been screwed over by the cops so often.
Wagstaff? Related to Cheese?

mytagid = Math.floor( Math.random() * 100 );document.write("That's a pretty cynical view. You may well be right, though. I think the problem with this situation is that there aren't all that many people that can be considered "virtuous" on this show, so it's hard to have a baseline. Daniels comes to mind, he's been rewarded somewhat. And you could say that Avon and Stringer were "punished".

I guess we'll find out next week.*** SPOILER ALERT! Click this link to display the potential spoiler text in this box. ***

I don't think they've ever said anything about it.

so the 3 short film prequels they launched before the season

prop joe, omar, and mcnutty meeting bunk

thats not good company for mcnutty and bunk

I don't wanna read this thread yet, but I've watched seasons 1, 2, 3, and the first 10 episodes of 4 as of now....as soon as I catch up through Season 5, I'm going to come in here and discuss....The Wire is a great great show.

ETA - If anyone wants the episodes, I can probably share them somehow.

how does a show like the Sopranos get all the love and the Wire goes untalked about, except for here.

i set up my DVR to record season 5. I was going to watch after I finished season 4. for some reason the first 2 episodes(More With Less and Unconfirmed Reports) did not record. anyone know where I can watch these 2 episodes online?

Should still be available if you have on demand. If not, you can watch them at surfthechannel.com.

What service do you have? If you have more than 1 premium (and you should have both HBO and Showtime because both have great series right now), you should ask about upgrading to a package. I had Showtime on a trial basis awhile back and they never removed it (for like 3-4 months) and when I called to add it, it turned out it was a lot cheaper to upgrade to a package that included *4* premiums plus the On Demands for all the premiums than it would have been to have the base plan + HBO + Showtime (and even then was only a few $ more than just HBO with no On Demand).

Works for me, just takes a while to load. They're linking it from Tudou.com, but that's an asian site and I can never figure anything out there.

:)You are talking DirecTV OnDemand? And you get HBO? It is definitely there. If you are talking about what you can record on your DVR, you won't find it. AFAIK, they don't let you record from OnDemand to DVR/Tivo.

Forget the DVR. Just go to HBO's OnDemand and don;t try to record it - just try to watch it. They should be there only to watch - NOT to record.

this whole on-demand really kind of sucks for forums doesnt?

it really was a lot better when we all could talk about an episode after it aired instead of having to zoom past spoilers.

The Captain said:
No - no, not really. The "virtuous" don't go down. In The Wire, the ones who go outside the normal bureaucracy in the name of doing good go down. Now, if you wanted to say the young'uns win out over the old guard, I would have accepted that.

That statement was fairly general, so no spoiler tags necessary - we should be able to speak in generalities about almost everything discussed in these specific spoiler tags.

 Yeah. It's kind of killed the thread for me since I don't have on demand and I'm paranoid of seeing a some sort of spoiler.

As someone with On Demand, I propose that those of us who watch the final episode early refrain from any posting in this thread about the series finale until the episode runs on March 9. This is the final episode of, what I consider to be, the best TV drama ever, and I believe this thread deserves a proper send off. The conversation will be far better if we can all agree to wait. What do you say, ON Demanders? Out of respect for The Wire and this thread, is this something we can agree upon? I know it will be hard, but I think it will be worth it.

You said "I have DTV and HBO is not part of on demand". I said HBO is part of on demand.Where are you "searching" for the wire? When I tune to the HBO on demand channel, I see all of the episodes from this seasn (none from past seasons), the 2 stories with Omar, Bunk/McNulty, and Prop Joe, and The Wire Odyssey (history/interviews about the show).

Episode 10 will not be on demand. We will have to watch it at the same time as everyone else.
