There Will Be Blood - NEW FILM (1 Viewer)

They are at the part now where Daniel and "his brother" are sitting on the beach.Daniel mentions getting some women liquored up and "taking them to the Peachtree dance."He says this twice, and the reference clearly goes unrecognized. He then asks what color the farmhouse was, and it's lights out.Had the imposter feigned knowledge of the Peachtree dance, think he would have stayed alive?
i caught a few minutes of this last night before i went to bed. i could have easily watched it through again without hesitation. i think it's one of the decade's best films. it's just superb.

Agreed. One of the things I hate is when HD channels run movies and they are in pan and scan mode. I have a beautiful 1080 screen and the picture looked superb. I wanted to sit andwatch the whole things again, absolutely stunning. They filmed this the same time "No Country for Old Men" was filming. You can see the opening scene where Luellen is hunting, same area where the boy and dad are hunting quail and decide what to do about the oil. Same beautiful scene.Amazing film and one that I seem to like mroe with each viewing. Easily a top10 film of the deacade for me. Daniel Day Lewis is at his best in this film.

"It is frustrating in general to see such exquisite elements thrown together into such an off-putting stew"

That says it for me. Never thought it could happen this badly.

They did one of those Rolling Roadshow outdoor screenings for TWBB here last week (since it was set roughly in this area). They showed it at the olde tyme outdoor museum just under an old, wooden oil derrick. During intermission they had a milkshake drinking contest and the winner got a bowling pin shaped trophy.

Likely just went over your head.
Probably. I can't seem to get into any of the highly touted movies like this one.
I will say that I didn't LOVE this movie at first. I appreciated it more only after multiple viewings.
Why would you rewatch a movie you didn't think highly of?

I'm in the same group with RN. The first time I watched it I think I was more disappointed than anything. I've caught it a couple times on TV recently and enjoyed it a lot. I have to be in the right mood for a movie like that, I guess. No Country For Old Men I loved right out of the chute.

Tough movie to "love". Gritty, dark, slow, reprehensible characters...however, it happens to contain some of the best acting of the last 10 or 15 years. If you can't appreciate DDL or Dano in this, it just might not be your thing. I would never expect a film like TWBB to appeal to everyone.

I don't always have the patience, but I find many great movies require a second viewing.

Saw this last night. 6/10

I thought the acting was very good. The story really wasn't that great. It was a little too long for my tastes as well. I'm sitting here wondering about the movie today and thinking there has to be something I just didn't get. I don't know. I'll skim through this thread to see if I missed anything.

Strangely, I really liked the movie when I first saw it but have zero desire to see it again.

The Master has a similar problem with another lead character that is very unlikable. With both these movies, I tend to like the supporting characters and tolerate the leads.
