Things you've learned to appreciate as you're getting older. (1 Viewer)

Thought this may spark some good replies. As I've gotten older some things I really didn't like when I was younger I've come around on now and actually enjoy doing them.

A few things comes to mind right away.Certain musical acts that I never really got at a younger age now I can appreciate the talent they have and actually enjoy the music they produce.

I now appreciate alone time that I get and also time with my friends a lot more since it seems I never really have that much free time.

I also can now appreciate the advice I was given at a younger age but made the choice to ignore it at the time. It's always better to make your own mistakes in life but had I listened a little more it could have been much easier.

Time with friends and family.

Onions.

Non-elite upper tier women.

Nice weather.

Nights, weekends, and holidays off.

Quality shoes.

Never liked baseball growing up....too slow to enjoy when I was young....now I enjoy the leisurely pace of a ball game.

The importance of reaching out to someone when they're going through a bad time. I used to worry about not knowing what to say and having it be embarrassing. Now I know that what you say doesn't really matter, it's just letting them know you care and are there for them.

I sold my beamer and bought a piece of crap 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee a couple years ago as a lesson for my wife (which of course went completely unnoticed). Of course the damn thing started having issues immediately.

What I found and came to love that no matter what random problem you have with a Jeep, there are 10 youtube videos with the fix - I have subsequently over the course of the last year repaired 7 things on my own (radiator replacement to water pump to belts, etc.), in the process taking the engine nearly apart and putting it back together. I wouldn't have known how to change a tire 2 years ago. :lmao:

I can't believe I am saying this, but something about fixing it myself feels awesome. I have since taken up repairs around the house, and found the same satisfaction.

TLDR: Fixing stuff.

 Reached my likes for the day. I agree. Many didn't know what to say and either said nothing or walked on egg shells with me. It's you expressing yourself to them as you, not some cookbook googled internet response of how to respond to X situation..

As sappy as it sounds, I've come to appreciate my wife so much more as I've gotten older. We've been married over 15 years now and I didn't always appreciate the person she was when I was younger. As we are both in our 40's now I realize how much she really means to me and how amazing it is that she stuck with my sorry ### when I was NOT being a great husband.

And true friendships. They mean the world to me as well.

Not having lingering pain / discomfort

Being yourself instead of what others want you to be

Being able to eat whatever you want

Indian cuisine. When I was a kid it literally made me gag. Now, I can't get enough!

How spectacular a good vodka martini tastes. "Up with 2 olives, thanks."

Made from scratch, genuine fish tacos.

Time.

"One day you turn around and it's summer

Next day you turn around and it's fall

And the springs and the winters of a lifetime

Whatever happened to them all?"

And Frank Sinatra.

Sitting under the beach umbrella with beer in hand watching the waves and just relaxing. I called that boring for years.

Healthy, well-adjusted kids - we've been lucky and blessed

Going to bed early.

Growing things. Mostly indoor plants (bonsai, fittonias, dracaenas, etc)

Hiking

Time with friends/family

Changing seasons

Another one I just thought of. Re-reading books. I've always done a fair amount of reading but when I was younger never read the same book twice. Now I find that I almost always enjoy it more the second time around.

Well said

I havent gotten into fixing cars/trucks/jeeps. But basically rebuilding my house has been unusually fun. I actually look forward to the challenge of not calling a repair man.

A good cigar

Scotch

My wife of 14 years

Watching my boys play sports

Travel

Trying new foods

And of course yoga pants - GB them.

I really appreciate the things I do have, instead of always focused on what I don't.

I also 2nd naps. I rarely get them, but when I do it's the best.
