This forum is brutal to visit (1 Viewer)

I'm going to put my forum admin hat on since I used to do that back in the day.  The OP is taking a lot of heat for this thread but he kind of has a point.  Megathreads can be difficult to jump into not only from the "clique" perspective, but they cause lots of other difficulties like people bringing up things that have already been discussed, trying to search and find a specific reply or discussion in a huge thread, and with the two different forum software I worked with, they would cause pretty big strains on the servers.

A great example is how in the Shark Pool threads that discuss individual players tend to be huge megathreads that go back years.  This presents a problem when you want to jump in to read a thread and find the point in the thread where the discussion about the player for this season began.  Good luck with that in a 500 page thread.  To me, it would make much more sense to have annual player threads, but that's not how the culture of this forum has evolved.

Because of all of these reasons, we used to tell people to not be afraid to make more threads and avoid megathreads except where it makes sense.

Now that said, because this board reduced the number of threads on each page (how is this not an option under user settings?), more threads may not be the best idea, because you'll have threads you're active in consistently pushed to pages 2, 3, etc.

Anyway, just wanted to share that the OP is not that far off with this critique.

But the people in those threads love to talk about whatever subject it is.  Take the grilling/smoking thread for example.  The same questions have been asked multiple times by people new to the smoking scene but anytime a question is asked it gets a lot of responses.

Yeah, I dont think megathreads are bad just because they have a few drawbacks.  Grilling/Smoking is a good example where it makes sense to have a megathread.  But something like an Antonio Brown thread in the shark pool should be broken up by season IMO, like how the NBA thread is here.

I predict that if the OP returns a year from now, this thread will have grown to 150 pages and become part of the problem...

ace use of scene

A+

Why did the board go to less topics on page 1?

Can we get this increased?
If I remember right, when the board software new version came out, that was the number it was hard coded to.

No idea if it's a settable parameter now.  Or if it is, what tradeoffs it might have (loading times for mobile use, etc).

The software this board runs on is horrible from a user experience.  Something like this should be an option for each user.  There should be options for posts per page, replies per page, options to see/hide images (images could be safely turned on if individual users could turn them on/off), embedded videos (with option to disable autoplay), etc.  These should all be toggle-able under account settings.

Just on the first page we have "community threads" consisting a bunch of guys talking about one single thing. It's not fun to visit here any more. Do with this what you will Joe.

Bye, Felicia.

I'm thinking the OP just wants ####tier threads.less traffic, less numbers, win win something.

This is the first topic you've started in a year.  Be part of the solution, bro.
That's a big part of it I think.  Many people just aren't starting threads anymore.  They are content in just reading other threads and then complaining.

And we definitely need new, younger people with different views.
