Also apricot of... I use a dubiously un-legal streaming service for most sports because the dude running it plays the best stuff on commercial and halftime breaks. He puts a headbanging cat meme on the screen and makes it the funnest part of watching some games. It's mostly edm euro dance whatever but the choices are always good. Anyway, he just hit halftime with something (not edm) that I chose from the start of this draft to be my final pick. Chose it for grins. Shake Your Rump is a perfect follow up. Music is just good for the soul. I don't want the 3rd quarter to start. :)

Round 8.33 - Dead Kennedys - California Uber Alles

Tempted to go with Chemical Warfare for its manic intensity, but I think this is an overall better tune.  I have a co-worker who saw these guys play inside of a metal maintenance shed in the '80s.  I cannot imagine how loud that must have been.

My favorite band in ninth and tenth grade. Give me anything off of Plastic Surgery Disasters, actually. "Bleed For Me," "Government Flu," "Well-Paid Scientist," etc.

"Root Down" might be my favorite, but Paul's as an album set the standard for sampling and pastiche sound collages. Just a legendary album.

I'm partial to Sabotage myself, although I think my favorite Beastie Boys line is in Intergalactic:

never let the beat...    ...ummmm   ...drop

Listened to a lot of Licenced to Ill with my friends while playing C64.

 
I know the only reason this band hasn’t been taken so far is that everyone thought they were selected in the first round. Another of my favorites, a surprise to none. . . I present to you:

9.02 - Rush - Freewill

My favorites are this, Xanadu, and Red Barchetta, but there’s plenty of other greats I could’ve selected.

wow, I have never gotten the Rush hate ...good dudes, great original music

I mean if you were around in the mid 70s - there wasn't a hint of "these guys suck" or "you're uncool if you like them"

please - Rush haters ...is it only Geddy Lee's voice?  (which I love), is it that nerds like Rush?? (which by the way - that was not an issue for years)

these guys just kicked ### for years and I really hate the Rush hate

Yet another "how are they still on the board?" pick

Round 9:

Eight Miles High -- The Byrds

This song did as much as any to usher in the psychedelic era. Roger McGuinn was listening to heavy doses of Indian ragas and the band grafted elements of those onto their signature sound. Minds were blown everywhere. The Byrds are another one of those "actually five bands in one" and produced incredible music throughout all their phases, but this stands as their crowning achievement. Live versions such as this one from the 1968-72 lineup featuring Clarence White were otherworldly.

Okay, hard to go with this after Dead Kennedy's, Rush, Beasties, etal, but let's calm down a bit. 

Love London Grammar. Most of their stuff is a stretch for my playlist, but the current release is perfect. They go triphop with a great insipid on vocals. I might have a crush. The title track is very teardroppy. Not tear inducing, Teardrop the Massive Attack bit.

9.7 London Grammar - Californian Soil

I link you to a live version that's better than the studio version. Man, I want to see them live.

Also a strong live performance with an orchestra that may be better to some but not quite the seemless playlist fit of my choice...
