It has bonus material or another 30 or so songs. Plus it has the Hendrix concert and the Otis concert. The remaster is really good though, including a really incredible 5.1 option. Usually older music works best in mono or stereo but this remastering on par with The VU doc’s music mix.Does it have more performances or is just a remaster?

1.09 - Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles
If we'd started last week, I would be doing a 40 Years of Post-Punk theme but I switched gears over the weekend to a female singer/songwriter thing. I probably could have waited on Carlton but I wanted to swing the big schtick with my first rounder.
I unapologetically love this song. Everything works for me; the piano, strings, even her mannered vocals. She's gone on to make five more albums including one released last year (2015's Liberman is really quite good). A Thousand Miles is probably her best song but it's certainly her most successful. It went top 5 in the US, has almost a half billion Spotify streams and has financed her bougie boho lifestyle over the past two decades.
I've not really paid attention to new music since my son was born in 2011, so I'd never heard of this song or this band. It is indeed a "sweet ambient background listen."Thanks, you inspired me to do my own thing and make a sexy chill newish playlist apropo de nada, but it will keep me reading and enjoying all the songs you nerds think are bestest or something. j/k sort of
from 2017
1.06 Cigarettes After Sex - Apocalypse.
Some might argue for Heavenly or Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby, and they might be right.
I'll make a public youtube playlist since I don't spotify. Should make a sweet ambient background listen for those of you who need some fresh oolala.

Gonna go through some of the picks I don't recognize tonight.
This song has been burned in my brain for years but I had no idea until now what it was called or who it was by. To me it's quintessential "HBO promo background music". Which is not a bad thing.
I've heard very little of their work, as they came from a genre I don't really care for and most of their career has overlapped with my parenting years.
I can see that a bit. He’s surely a huge Simon fan and their sound was very influenced by Graceland.I've heard very little of their work, as they came from a genre I don't really care for and most of their career has overlapped with my parenting years.
It's not annoying, so there's that. But not the kind of thing I'd listen to repeatedly.
Is it just me, or on this song does this guy bear a slight vocal resemblance to the young Paul Simon?
@Ron Swanson is up!

Nice to hear. I'm true fan. Still giggle at myself for taking them in the 1st round, but it is a sound/feel I wish I could find more of. Two albums released 17 and 19. Self-titled and Cry. A listen through both is a better "sweet ambient" listen than any playlist I can compile.I've not really paid attention to new music since my son was born in 2011, so I'd never heard of this song or this band. Van is one of those artists where I only know the radio songs, and most radio stations don't play Astral Weeks, so...1.X - Sweet Thing by Van Morrison
Without invoking the Infinite Monkey Theorem, I don't think it's possible to improve upon Van's original. One of the few songs where I like to wait for and pick off individual notes, chords, vocal inflections, etc.
Runner-ups in order were Wonderful Remark (and only the 8-minute version, not the 4:00 minutes of underacheivment version) and Into the Mystic.
Step would be in my top VW songs. I'd probably go
Oxford Comma, A-Punk, Step, Harmony Hall, Ladies of Cambridge, in whatever order.
I'm pretty sure Ron Swanson is up. Yep.
Plan? What's that?As much as I love it, it doesn't fit in with most of the songs/artists I plan on drafting.

Don't worry, I'm going to leave that great song for you. As much as I love it, it doesn't fit in with most of the songs/artists I plan on drafting.
But thank you.Ha! I saw you picked this one and I came back to find ur post to say pretty much this! My parents used play the #### out of Ronstadt and Juice Newton on vinyl! Good timesWe are a little one dimensional IMHO, so I'm going to add some diversity while you guys fight over the rock/R&B/Soul stuff.
Linda Ronstadt - You're No Good
Another artist that was played regularly on vinyl in our home growing up. Her music is deeply personal to me and seems to be largely underappreciated by my generation. I would play it in college and my friends thought I was weird AF and it certainly wasn't cool in the 90s, but I didn't care. She's probably a top 5 vocalist for me with Aretha and a few others that haven't been selected yet.
I chose this song as her best because I think it highlights her diversity as an artist and also gives glimpses at her amazing vocal range. Is she soul/R&B/country/rock? I also think the song has a timeless quality to it, at least for me.
Prior Selections
Round 1: Prince - Let's Go Crazy
Round 2: Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again
Beer of the moment is C'est Ne Pas la Fin du Monde by Unibroue. Beer nerds will know la fin du monde, this is a twist on it - a belgian IPA, rather than a tripel. It's good. Only came in a 750 ml bottle and maybe I should have saved and shared it but it was calling my name.
Gracias.Van is one of those artists where I only know the radio songs, and most radio stations don't play Astral Weeks, so...
I can see why this song and album are such a big deal. Every touch is perfect.
For the record, my top 5 here, again in whatever order would have been.
I'm not a metal guy and the only Maiden song I know by heart is Run to the Hills, which got a ton of play on MTV when I was a tween/teen.Excellent!
1.32: "Wasted Years", Iron Maiden
Adrian Smith's masterpiece for the band. Smith wrote the song, came up with the urgent clarion call of an opening, and played one of the band's most memorable guitar solos over the bridge. Steve Harris tucks in and keeps the energy going on bass, allowing Smith's playing to stand front and center.
Bruce Dickinson, as the Somewhere in Time sessions began, had felt exhausted and listless after the group finished the year-long Power Slavery tour. For "Wasted Years", he dug deep and got right off that schneid with authority.
I'll let you know after your next pick!I'm not even sure we're talking about the same thing. But thank you.
I'm following you around on these. Based on your comments, I think I liked this one quite a bit more than you did, even though I hate when I don't know which is the artist and which is the song. Anyway, enjoyed this one a lot and will check out more of their stuff.
I've really had a hard time deciding which song to take from these guys but finally settled on...
4.05 So. Central Rain - R.E.M.
Now, @Ron Swanson
nice, you're a ####### steamroller
That song or a different one?I would have taken them next if they were still there.
And I may have gone to hot take station because my favourite song of theirs might very well be Leaving New YorkI would have taken them next if they were still there.4.05 So. Central Rain - R.E.M.
Fugazi was one of those acts I was peripheral to but never really dove into. Several friends played their albums regularly, so I got exposed to their songs here and there, but I couldn't name most of them.Sorry... work was nuts today and I had no free time to check my personal phone or check the thread over the internet at work.
2.04 Smallpox Champion - Fugazi
The In on the Kill Taker album was peak Fugazi, IMO. This song has it all... brooding intro melding into jagged dissonant riffs, the stop on the dime break in the middle, and the anthemic singalong chorus at the end. Guy took the lead and Ian stayed back in the shadows. Who else could rock a song about a topic like this, except maybe The Clash?
This CD sold for $8-10 new and admission to Fugazi shows (I saw three) was $6 (maybe they raised it to $7, cuz inflation, you know?).
Emo-shmemo - THIS WAS PUNK ROCK
Another band I've just never had much exposure to, probably because they're from a genre I don't seek out much. The song is a nice burst of energy and I really like the bass on this track.
Party"Daytripper" by Otis
She was a day tripper girl, now
She give me a one-way ticket there, y'all
It took me so, so very long, huh
I found out, I found out

She told me she would love me

But I'll take the easy way out, girl, huh
I said I got a good reason now, huh
