Can't blame you, that sounds gross. Hopefully that wasn't OH.I broke up with a guy because he generated too much eye goop.
Not really similar, but I just wanted to join the conversation.

I have never lost interest but I don't like their more recent albums as much. There are songs on all their albums that I like but the newer stuff isn't as consistently great for me.There seems to be a lot of Modest Mouse fans that lost interest after M&A but, besides a few songs here and there, I like it all. Old Modest Mouse, New Modest Mouse, Ugly Casanova, even the newest albums.
I broke up with a fiery Greek woman because she scared me with her controlling, disciplinary, always threatening to burn some mutter###### down personality.I broke up with a guy because he generated too much eye goop.

I almost drafted Invisible Sun instead of Matthew Sweet right before you. I'm surprised they weren't drafted earlier than this.I thought Shuke might put an idea into other heads with his last song choice and ruin my next pick, buuuuutttt....
5.30 - Synchronicity II - The Police
The Police were the first rock band I ever got really into and Synchronicity was the first tape I ever bought myself. Just a masterful album all around (with the exception of the bone thrown to Andy Summers' s Mother - stick to playing, Andy). This song captures the best of the band - the creepy intro, Copeland's driving drumming, Summers's riffs and pre-shoegaze ambience, Sting's unique voice and lyrics mixing the mystic and the mundane - this will forever be the only song ever written that includes the lyrics "Rice Krispies," "crotch," and "loch." The video is great too with the band's dystopian take on life and music (while Sting pokes fun at Billy Idol). To this day I don't think a band got more sound out of a trio than The Police.
Edit: Funny story - my wife and I got to see The Police at Dodger Stadium during their reunion tour (Foo Fighters opened - awesome show), and as the show ended and everyone is trying to rush out of the stadium, amidst 50,000+ people we run into her brother /my brother-in-law and his wife from San Diego as we're heading through the exits. NEVER TELL ME THE ODDS.
LOL, same her except she wasn't a Greek, she was a Drunk.I broke up with a fiery Greek woman because she scared me with her controlling, disciplinary, always threatening to burn some mutter###### down personality.![]()
Hello Cleveland!Whenever Concrete Blonde is drafted, it's customary for me to post the video of Johnette Napolitano falling off the stage.

Yeah, was thinking the same earlier. Does anyone know if he maybe got into on the political forum? I know he wasn't feeling well, but he also could have been suspended. It happens from time to time.Hope @rockaction is doing okay.

HOT TAKE ALERT
6.14 John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band - Mother
I realize there are many options here. @wikkidpissahcan make a convincing argument for "Imagine."
eta, but wikkid is right about the biggest hit![]()
Hope @rockaction is doing okay.
Wow. Thanks for the concern. That makes me feel good. I'm doing all right. I tried to call the infectious disease specialist I went to last time, but I haven't received a call back in two days. Right now I'm on antibiotics and it's not getting worse, but it's not clearing up either, so we shall see. Spent the day sleeping and on the line with the insurance company gathering up specialists in the area should this one not be able to see me.Yeah, was thinking the same earlier. Does anyone know if he maybe got into on the political forum? I know he wasn't feeling well, but he also could have been suspended. It happens from time to time.
Really didn't, actually. That's my snark for the day.to be clear - and i think Krista knows this, tho folks not involved in our dialogue at the time would not - i did not pimp Imagine as a great song but a founding document.
the times dictated that someone say that the old rules were so bad, in their way, that breaking them wasnt enough. freedom wasnt possible until we could imagine no rules at all. so Lennon, a zeitgeist surfer of incomparable skill, did. hadda be said.
so did Mother. so did God. War Babies & Boomers were always going to disappoint their parents, were always going to feel the survivor guilt of their ungrateful lives, were always going to celebrate the liberty & opportunity won for us by spitting in the faces of AND wishing love & approval from the people who made freedom possible . hadda be said.. And like all "revolutionaries", we were gonna suck at replacing what we just tore down and Lennon was, of course, gonna be the first to circle back on that. hadda be said.
thank you, John.
Good to hear things are steady at least. Enjoy the break and get well soon.Wow. Thanks for the concern. That makes me feel good. I'm doing all right. Feeling okay. Thanks for the concern, guys. Just a day break from the board to sort of be well.
\Really didn't, actually. That's my snark for the day.
Eh, so it is. I've had "Imagine" sung to me in class with the ability to have retrospective views on the Berlin Wall, so it all hits differently, that communal anarchy thing. Probably very of its time.\
as always, i am chastened by your wisdom
And station managers everywhere were like "WTF am I supposed to do with THIS?"Oh, and I love that he released this as a single, the only one from the whole album.![]()
6.20 - Bjork - "Hyperballad"
Alright fine. You leave Bjork on the board this far into the draft, it's only a matter of time until I pick one. I feel like I draft her every-other-draft, but what can I say, I love what I love.
No, man, how is it? I'm interested in it. I saw Don Quixote (who I play in a Zealots league with) post the Criterion sale, and looked at it, but didn't take the opportunity you did to pick up some great stuff (and some of it was great). I wish I could share in its excitement with you, but I can't. Anything salient from the movie that you see in the conversation today, or are you just curious if I've seen it? It sounds awesome. I think I'd really love it (or maybe I'd cringe, but I think I'd love it).@rockaction Have you ever seen Festival? The concert movie about the Newport Folk Fest?

I just watched it and given your enjoyment of Dylan but maybe not the folk scene, I was curious if you had seen it and had an opinion. I thought it was interesting as hell as a slice of history. It's such a very interesting slice of a specific time and culture in America. The music is pretty damn good too. A wide range of blues and folk based music all in really good audio quality. No, man, how is it? I'm interested in it. Another one I was close to taking this past round or 2. Thought I might get it a little later. Such a great song.6.20 - Bjork - "Hyperballad"

There remains a glaring omission and it's eating at me! I think everyone just assumes the pick has already been made. That's my last word on this, well until the pick is made. This will only get more interesting as we go on. Not many true legacy bands/artists left which means it will only get more unpredictable.
You monster!!!!I broke up with a guy because he generated too much eye goop.

Not being rude, explain Bjork to me. What songs should I listen to, what should I listen for? I feel like I could like her but it's never clicked.Another one I was close to taking this past round or 2. Thought I might get it a little later. Such a great song.
I must admit, I pretty much put Squeeze in the 1 hit wonder category.

This current youth cohort could use it. Gen Zzzz as I like to call them. Asleep at the wheel of their own lives. The first 100% app based generation. Life with the touchscreen. Nice kids though. The Folk movement of the late 50s and early 60s has gotten overlooked because of the rise of Rock 'n Roll. Most popular genres have had some kind of revival over the decades but Folk hasn't really ever come back as any sort of popular movement. Singer/Songwriter genres owe something to Folk but it was filtered through Dylan, Mitchell and others.
I was kind of hoping Inside Llewyn Davis would spark the return of hootenannys but it never took off.
lol... same.
I'm knee deep in CONCACAF WCQ, tundra-stylee.
will pick shortly.

Awesome. No, I haven't. That's definitely on my radar now. I'm really interested in the pre-hippie, folk era of that time period. I'm not, as you point, necessarily sympathetic to the general consensus of the folk lovers, but it's still such an interesting history that it would probably make a very good watch, including, as you also point out, a heck of a history of that more radical but pre-hippie era.I just watched it and given your enjoyment of Dylan but maybe not the folk scene, I was curious if you had seen it and had an opinion. What struck you about it, if I might ask? A scene or performance? I think you mentioned Joplin at Monterey influenced one of your picks. Anything that might do so here?

They were true game changers (before everyone started dying and/or marrying Cher). Basically birthed their own genre. I would have taken In Memory of Elizabeth Reed -- and may well have in this round if they had lasted.ohhhhhh man ....
