THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (1 Viewer)

10.20 - Metric - "Stadium Love"

Bit of a sneaky copout pick here, as this is a quintessentially Canadian band, but Emily Haines was born in India so it'll meet my criteria since I've already crossed Canada off the list.  Raised in Ontario, but her mother ran a school for underprivileged children in India.  Coming up with 20 different countries for songs you actually like is a tough game.

Plenty of other Metric options, and other options with xxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxx, but this is a fun one.  Any given day, I might say "Twilight Galaxy", "Dead Disco", "Combat Baby", "Synthetica", "Help I'm Alive", "Gold Guns Girls", but I'm feeling this one today.
Absolutely love this song. Perfect all around. Big, booming stadium anthem about the perils of love. Grimy synths. Heavily processed guitars (or synths again, I can't tell). Loved this group since Tasker got me into them about four or so years ago.

Wanna make a bet
We'll be neck to neck taking off the gloves
Spider versus bat
Tiger versus rat, rabbit versus dove

Every living thing pushed into the ring
Fight it out to wow the crowd
Guess you thought you couldn't just watch
No one's getting out

Without stadium love
Without stadium love

Kind of late to argue about weekend rules on a Saturday night.
Agreed and maybe I misread or misinterpreted that sequence of posts surrounding this weekend.

In any case next weekend will be back to a pick per day. If I bother to show up between now and then of course.

Momentum was strong and it carried through the weekend.

It wasn't Friday but you and @squistion really wanted to just keep it going as is, so I did

I never said to keep it going as is, but cool.  If you want to whine about it, also cool.

I'm happy to stop trying to keep it going, entering picks, @ing people, keeping track of skips, etc.  You know, leave it to the guy in charge!
As the @Binky The Doormat-ordained Anton Chigurh of this thread, I politely request that, as two of my favorite FGB's, you guys please settle down.

Otherwise, I'm flipping a coin.

Nah, not all good with me.  Not the first time I have dealt with it, along with others who have PM'd me similar thoughts.  Flip the coin, as far as I'm concerned.  Don't care if I "lose."

I’m on rum and Coke #2 and joint #1 of the night so far, so bear with me. How about this:

Were almost at the end of round 10. Everyone can finish their picks up through that tonight (if still here). Tomorrow is for round 11 - pick any time.

I can @ everyone so nobody’s surprised.

Then we all hug it out and cry through our shared misery together.

???

The nice thing about message boards is everyone can read all the posts and see the sequence of posts and draw their own conclusions.

I definitely interpreted "we were fine with no clock last weekend" in response to my suggestion of pick per day as a counter-suggestion that we should do the same as last weekend.

I am more than willing to take the high road and concede I may have been wrong in that interpretation.

I'm certainly not posting "#### that ####", playing the victim or talking about the PMs I've received trash talking anyone else in the draft. I've re-read all the posts again and I'm pretty good with everything.

I shouldn't have brought it back up at all - but like I said when I did, I'm a stubborn #######.

Oh geez. As someone known for starting an iFight or two, I recommend that neither of you take the other personally right now and when the dust settles, things we might have said and regretted will be remembered over newer feelings of gratitude and love.

Nah, not changing anything now.

10.19 War - "Why Can't We Be Friends?"

These guys, man. Chock-full of great musicians, they made some of the best (& funniest) records of the '70s. This is one of those "gotta smile when it comes on" songs for me. The link above is to the goofy-assed video they made for it.

Others considered:

"The World Is A Ghetto"

"Me And Baby Brother"

"Low Rider"

"Summer"
Bumping this song for no particular reason

I just wanted to say, no matter what, I enjoy these drafts, and y'all that are in the drafts.  And I appreciate those who put it together, and enter picks, and what not......we're all busy, and I think we just need to go with the flow, and enjoy the ride...

Only released on a live album for the Japanese market. Original singer Cherie Currie left the band afterwards.
Not sure if this post meant that it was ineligible for the draft, or you just dropping some knowledge.     It was on spotify, so I just picked.

I'm on G&T #2, and I have to confess, unlike @Binky The Doormat has labeled me, I am actually the anti-Anton Chigurh. I'm a lover not a fighter.

And I would never flip that coin or even contemplate using a bolt stunner to injure anyone because I don't even know what that is.....I googled it.
You don't have to do this...the coin don't have no say...it's just you

6.33 Cage the Elephant – Shake Me Down

Matt Shultz’s vocals may be an acquired taste for some people, but these guys definitely can write a catchy tune.  This is probably my favorite, with Back Against the Wall and Cigarette Daydreams getting honorable mentions.
I was considering drafting these guys now and would have taken this song or Cigarette Daydreams. So we are very much on the same page here. One of my favorite live shows ever - Matt came out in a dress half way through. (It was at Wayhome and @Steve Tasker was there but not with me - they conflicted with another big indie band that hasn't been drafted yet and my one buddy was there, Tasker may have been too).

In either case, both are right answers and this band is one example where there is in fact a wrong answer - "Ain't No Rest for The Wicked" 🤮

I learned earlier tonight that a guy I worked with/partied with all through university died. Him and I were more acquaintances than friends. We were in the same group and a couple of the guys in that group remain really close friends and he didn't. But I spent countless hours with him at poker nights at my house, club nights, and we worked together for 4 years.

He was ex-military, had PTSD, and had attempted suicide in the past but I'm told that that is not how he died. I was actually better friends with his wife, who played baseball with us pre-covid, and was also part of those poker, party nights and worked with us as well (I worked at Walmart while I was in school, everyone slept with everyone).

Anyway, I haven't seen him in 2-3 years, last time would have been pre-covid when he came to the park while his wife played ball with us but I think he's the first person from my age/cohort of people that I spent significant time with who has died. It's pretty weird and I feel so bad for her.

He was stay at home dad and she has a really good job but I'm not sure how you transition now with two young kids.

:lmao:   Excellent job taking the high road!

I encourage you to re read these posts in the morning and see what you think. It doesn't really matter when you're trading PMs with people talking about what a #### I am, there's not a lot of coming back from that. I can assure you I'm not doing that about you.

G'night

I didn't initiate the PMs about you.  :)   Not a single one.  Take that for what it is, and see if you wish to "come back from that."

My favorite BTO is "Let It Ride"  Such a great chorus.
I love Let it ride too, but BTO II was pretty meh for me. Not fragile and Four Wheel Drive however...  :headbang: . They did something production wise on  4WD that really pulled me in. It was so clean. I'm sure that's not the word but all I I can think of right now.

I did not know this factoid from Wikipedia " Stephen King derived his Richard Bachman pen name from Bachman–Turner Overdrive when he was listening to the band's song "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" at the time his publisher asked him to choose a pseudonym on the spot"

Oh, and to be clear, not only did I not initiate any PMs about you, but two of them pre-dated this incident.  I tried to stand up for you, when I was told that you were being a #### to people for no reason.  Feel free to "come back from that," too.

Just to be clear, I said that you wanted to keep a clock going on the weekend because you said "it worked fine with no clock last weekend", haven't said a single thing personal towards you, just reposted those quotes and have tried to diffuse this whole thing and you have somehow taken it to "multiple people are messaging me that they don't like you"

Another factoid is Elvis Presley was a big fan of the BTO song "Takin' Care of Business". In fact he adopted TCB as his mantra and had a ring made with the acronym on it.

Neat summary.  Inaccurate quote.  Good try.

De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true

Medical update to those that took the time for an emoji or a kind word:

My arm is better. The antibiotics did their work (unlike the last time this happened) and it appears that my cellulitis has cleared. It is no longer red and burning and painful, but almost yellowish and seemingly in good repair. I will follow up with a doctor this week and see if I can't see a specialist to assess what is going with me where this has happened twice in five or six years. I feel bad making the thread about me, but that is often what we do in music threads -- share things with friends. And it was worrisome, because last time this happened they pooh-poohed the symptoms and I wound up for three or four days in the hospital. So I was worried that would be my fate again and shared. Thanks again for the concern. Appreciate it.

I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be

And let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Definitely my #2 Triumph after (like immediately after) Magic Power. But I went solo Rik rather than double up since anything any good from them was Emmet as lead singer
Used to go see him once a year in Philadelphia and once in NY at Daryl's House. Can't hit those high ones any more but still a crazy good and diversified guitar player. He retired from touring this couple of years ago tho. He actually teaches music in Canada.

Here's a tune he did a few years ago along with Rusher Alex Lifeson Human Race

I am hurt to my heart you took BTO, as I was saving them for whenever I ran out of ideas. But am thrilled with the choice you made, as it's off the grid.

Agree with you on Not Fragile - that record freaking rocks.

My favorite song of theirs is atypical - "Blue Collar" off of the first LP. It's jazzy and bluesy and unlike anything they did afterwards.

Good to hear. I have a pre-existing condition that makes me fear the Covid. My bartending daughter sort of lives with me. Crashes at her best friend single mom's more than sleeps here, and we have polar opposite schedules. Nonetheless, I woke to her cough cough coughing a couple nights ago. She gets around too much for comfort and I've busted her in the grocery store unmasked. So I am listening to this very dry cough and convincing myself she's brought covid into my safe house.

I mask up and sanitize things she's likely touched. Use isopropyl like air freshener. Tap on her door and say, "You sound like you have covid! You need to stay away from me. Sanitize everything you touch. Get tested first thing in the morning."

This starts a fight. She insists it's the same cough she gets every year. I insist it sounds too dry. She is not getting tested and missing work. I am not happy she's taking her cough to the bar. It went around and around at increasing volumes. She agreed to get tested first thing, but if she came back negative, I had to pay the $125. If positive she needed to quarantine somewhere else. I paid. Happily. :)

I know apricot of nothing. Glad your improving. Hope the specialist has answers.
