THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (2 Viewers)

Dreams I'll Never See - Molly Hatchet

I waffled between my last two as to who I wanted to anchor the draft list. My number 20 will be a letdown after this, but I decided although I LOVE the hell out of this song, I have zero southern rock songs and and love the genre, and I should finish with one, I opted to go with the group I like better last.

That said, I doubt there's a better riff, attached to a better song, attached to a better album cover than than this one.

My Top 5 Artists for 2021 on Spotify:

1. Justin Townes Earle

2. The Rolling Stones

3. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

4. Drive-By Truckers

5. Wilco

My Top song was drafted by @krista4 - The Saint of Lost Causes.
The Rolling Stones came in at #5 for me.  My other four haven't been drafted, and my top song is by one of them.  A couple of the four were influenced by the Genrepalooza draft that lasted almost a year.

Pick # 20: Del Amitri - Love Justin Currie and really love Here and Now. I could have gone with really any of the songs on this album (or the one before). But this song really, really is crazy good.

19.xx   Up the Down Escalator - The Chameleons

One of the best post-punk bands that inexplicably didn't get the recognition that others did.  This is arguably their best song but so are Swamp Thing, Don't Fall, Tears and Soul In Isolation.

20.xx  Plasticities - Andrew Bird

Super multi-talented musician as exhibited in this performance--love seeing him do this at his shows. Too many other songs in the running to list.  And at least 8 excellent albums over the past 20 years.

Finishing up with some more 80s goodness. Yo Mama selects:

20.YM - The English Beat - Twist & Crawl

So many great songs to choose from, but this one always was my favorite. Reminds me of going to a high school party.

This is the last round of the draft so spotlighting shouldn’t be an issue.

I'd still love to do Eephus's 90s draft, if he's willing.

Or Captain Cranks' very cool genre/charity draft.
I'd probably sit out of the 90s one - a bit out of my league there.

Captain Cranks' one did sound good indeed.

Another one we discussed briefly in the recent past is drafting a song that was played during a particular movie/TV scene. So you're really drafting the song and the scene simultaneously.

@krista4   Have you (or anyone else) bought Paul McCartney's book The Lyrics?  B&N has a 25% off coupon going on right now and some other book places have sales, but otherwise it is $100.  I don't know if I'm going to get it now or later, but eventually I'll get it.

I've always had the sense that a lot of Scandinavian bands couldn't quite settle into a genre and liked trying them out for size. These guys had some punk, post-punk, grunge, heavy metal and even a little new wave in their catalog... some absolute crap, and some fun tunes like Jesus Came Driving Along, Desolation Avenue, Pink House, Gimme Gimme Gimme. But this tune lays down it's hook, adds some well-placed feedback and just lets it rip... went on every mix tape back when I first heard it.

16- The Leather Nun- Prime Mover

I love everything about KISS.  Except the music.
Fair enough....I totally get the cheeseball factor.  For me, they represent a big part of musical culture when I was a kid.......they jumped the shark decades ago, but they did kind of catch lightning in a bottle, initially.

I'll take their early stuff over most of all this shoegaze, emo crap that seems to be everywhere......I mean move outa ur parents basement already.

I bought it but have not even taken the plastic wrap off it yet.

OK... third Swedish band- and not garage. I first heard this song, and it slowly became my favorite of the year. I think I like the goofy plunked keyboard and beat combined with the vocals- I love her voice. The rest of their music is much more down-tempo... kind of ez listening, carpenters style with less rhythm even. somebody drafted First Aid Kit earlier- these guys are much more in that world than this... and have some nice tunes in that style for those that like that. I do, but this tune remains planted as their best to me- probably because it's more distinct. the video... no idea.

Draft 1

I hope we can get at least 10.  I know @Chaos Commish@Mrs. Rannous@Ilov80s and some others said they were interested.  We should twist @krista4's arm too.
Sorry bro. I'm a hard pass on any drafts through New Year's. I should have just joined simey in the peanut gallery for this one. It's a nice idea and I'm sure with some effort you'll fill it up. Also, I would be the 16th seed going against a Kentucky NBA team if we be judging. I hope a winner remembers Chance For Life.

In another forum, I was just discussing female vocalists who grrrroooowwwlll. It's disconcerting when you see it live. For a few verses this angelic voice floats over the metal backing... then Grrrrroaring Girl kind of freaks me out. Unfortunately I didn't save the one that really caught my attention and searching my history is a fool's errand after this draft... BUT, I thought these Swedish metals were pretty damn good.

Draconian

Arch Enemy

GrowlerGirls could be my next theme. Or just take Aurora songs. Norwegian is close enough and she's my current obsession.

I think I’m going to have to pass on committing to another draft in December as well due to other commitments/vacation.  Will chime in though.

The Arch Enemy girl sounds demonic. I was waiting for her head to spin around and then spray the stage with green vomit.
But the lyrics are so encouraging and positive. Never one to be political, I shouldn't share this but the other forum is a family forum. My niece said she kept expecting the singer's head to split in two and Hillary Clinton to pop out.

I'll post something from the band i expected you to take, and I'll probably post  a dozen or so i want on my playlist, and i'll post the playlist once i am happy with it, but i won't be making more draft picks.

for grins, this is awkwardly sexual, but i love the raunchy trumpet and should have drafted it.

touch and go

on point bonus

hess is more
Oh I loved that Would You Go To Bed With Me song but I don’t think I took anything outside of the 60s-70s. I was looking for similar styles in a certain time period.

That was a wild rough day of school. We had “threats” (total BS) shared on Snapchat all day, 500 kids went home at some point in the day out of fear/panic or just using fear as an excuse for mom to call them out. I put my class into lockdown at one point as a massive school group chat of students reported their was a gun in the school. A kid was arrested at another local school for having a gun, another school had a kid arrested for making threats. Right now we are waiting to see if they cancel school tomorrow for a mental health day.

So sorry to hear this - I can’t imagine how crazy a situation that is. Stay safe.

Thanks, there was never any danger but I get why kids were worried and of course other kids are terrible and do #### just to toy with others. It’s always been tough after a big school shooting but with this one being less than an hour away, it’s really hitting hard and on everyone’s mind.

20.xx  Plasticities - Andrew Bird

Super multi-talented musician as exhibited in this performance--love seeing him do this at his shows. Too many other songs in the running to list.  And at least 8 excellent albums over the past 20 years.
Anti-Marty-Willson-Piper - a good (albeit strange) guy.  Friend/collaborator with many of my Chicago people.  Came to my 1999 NYE party and mostly smoked pot on my roof.  He had put out "Music of Hair" (which I loved) as a solo but then was Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire at the time and breaking out more on the local scene.  Good to see him blow up later.
