THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (3 Viewers)

Need to listen to more by The Districts and Hot Snakes. I've heard of both but never gave a listen. Both are off of labels that I really like and that put out consistently good music, so that's going for them. The Districts have a real Walkmen vibe to them, Hot Snakes have that garage revival sound to them.

Savage Garden reminds me of a very modern nineties Sweet and I'm not surprised that Mrs. R. likes them. I remember that song. I can almost hear the strains of Deee-Lite in that song for some reason.

You can go ahead and announce it but your selection and any other 21st+ round picks will not be reflected in the draft spread sheet (which is for the best because in the late rounds, some people (cough, cough) were choosing one-hit wonders, which does qualify as a best song of an artist, but doesn't mean much when no one has heard anything else that they did).

Thanks for the go ahead. Noted.

:lmao:

Will any unauthorized picks be noted on our permanent record?
I was just typing out that the assignment was indeed over and the teachers had left, so that means it's double extra over and won't be graded.

Or do we get extra credit for initiative? You decide. Teachers are gone.

Seems risky.

We might already be seeing the punishment for your extra picks, in the form of Alabama winning.

Arghh. You know just what to say to ease my mind. I'm watching my first college football of the year, really. I'd heard UGA was the best and was hopeful to watch it, but Alabama is just handling business as usual. Sun rises, sun sets, 'Bama wins again.

Cheering for Alabama is like cheering for Alabama. They set the standard for all comparisons like that.

oh... ####... I forgot I was on the Scandinavian thing...

19- Spielbergs- 4AM

Norwegian post band. one album... last year? with a bunch of good tunes. Loved this one. hoping they put out another album soon.

:lmao:   I might steal this.  No, that's not true.  I will steal this.

I don't usually watch college football until bowl season, but this year has been more interesting to me with all the upsets, unusual suspects like Cincy presumably getting into the playoff, etc.  Also my BFF went to Michigan, and since I don't have a team of my own (Wellesley and Columbia don't make for good sports-watching), I adopted Michigan many years ago.  Setting up for heartbreak again tonight, of course.

20- Anna Meredith- Nautilus

She had popped up on new classical playlists and occasional radio (and on that strange tv show w. paul rudd? getting cloned) and while I like the vibe she slings, I generally have to be in the right mood for it. but this tune... I'm always in the right mood.

Thank you.

You and ilov can cheer together, it seems. His new avatar is in homage to current excellence. And I'm out on college football for similar reasons to your undergrad dilemma. I just never had the regional or educational bind to any one of the big schools.

not sure whether to laugh or cringe here. doing both, tbh, with an undercurrent of yuck annoyance. any one... is there an emoji for that?
The whole thing has just been sad, actually. That's what I roll with.

And am not doing a good job of, going back a page. I'm perilously close to being baited.

Do you all remember me talking about my two twenty-something daughters living with me, and the accompanying drama ?

I have good news! The older daughter left some gummies sitting out on the kitchen counter.

No, I don't recall that and I must say that I am grateful.

So, who are the new FFA music darlings, post draft?

Pretty sure Fontaines DC is the runaway winner.  Second on my list is The War on Drugs (Kurt Vile). I know they have gotten love in other threads, but I feel like they took a big step forward here.

I have to apologize to ilov80s.  The one and only Michigan game I attended was in 1994, and my BFF was so nervous even when they were up by 13 with little more than two minutes left to play.  After it got cut to a six-point advantage, she told me, "You don't understand because you're not a Michigan fan," and literally right after I told her, "Just relax, there's no way some Doug Flutie-type hail mary is happening here," well...you know...this happened.  I'm surprised she's still my friend.

44 minutes into gummy. Probably a bad idea to pop a frozen pizza into the oven at this point. I have week old croissants to see me through.

I knew what that was before I even clicked the link. That's amazing. Kordell, just sprinting down the field in celebration after about sixty yards in the air. At least.

:lmao:

Kordell was ahead of his time.

Fontaines DC is definitely a great one.  A lot of us also liked Juxtatarot's (did I get that right?) picks of Dead Modern and There Will Be Fireworks.

Another one I need to listen to more of is The Delgados, whom I'd heard of but not investigated.

It was the most suddenly deflated I'd ever personally witnessed a crowd to be until I was at this game.  Maybe I'm bad luck.

Gracias.  This is probably a good conversation to have, as many picks received little attention from me because work, life, etc.

That crowd turned ugly, though. They stopped being deflated, as you probably remember. I can still remember when the beer began to fly on television and I thought, "That's really not good. He should get out of there for his own safety." The worst part of that, for me? That game happened before Game Seven of the 2003 ALCS and some dumb guy in the bar in SPFLD, MA, a Boston hotbed, had the nerve to yell out "Five more outs. Hope nobody pulls a Bartman" before Boston collapsed and lost their three-run lead in the eighth, too.

Crowd was angry there, too.

I also didn't know whether to laugh or cry emoji at that. I picked tears. Probably just as well.

I'm doing shrimp tacos tomorrow.  Anyone got helpful hints?
I like shrimp tacos with shredded cabbage made into a slaw that has lime squeezed on it, and either spicy aioli, or a slaw mix of however you like it that is spicy. Sometimes I like a bit of shredded cheese in it too, and sometimes I like avocado on it too, but always the spicy slaw mix.

Yes, I grabbed a head of purple cabbage today. Gonna mix with radish and shallot, and a little lime vinegar, salt, and sugar too.

Honestly, being the midst of it I didn't realize that ugliness was happening.  We were lower level around first base, so we had a good sightline to what happened but weren't entirely sure, and the people around me simply sat back down with their heads in their hands.  To the people near me, it was just another of the long line of Cubs failures and mythology surrounding that, and immediately the feeling went from ebullience to despair.  I'm sure where he was it was a different story, as evidenced by his having to be taken out of the stands.

In another perfect prediction of what was NOT going to happen, I tried to cheer up the friend I'd brought along (who was much more of a fan than I was, as I had chosen the White Sox as my Chicago team) by reassuring him that it was OK because Prior and Wood had not lost back-to-back games all year, so they'd definitely win Game Seven.  :bag:

This sounds like the correct yummy answer.  Although I'm #1 Fan of Cheese, usually I'd say no to cheese with shrimp, but a little cotija on there wouldn't hurt.

Wish me luck.  I'm being frugal and I have two pounds of Colby-Jack I freshly shredded today.  Gonna work it in.  Hope the bacon detracts from my cheese choices.
