This year's crummy offenses to target for DefBC? (1 Viewer)

I just drafted Chicago's D for my week 1 game based on the DD's SOS, only to realize later that they are playing Detroit that week... who is looking MUCH better on offense this year.

Looks like the SOS for defenses needs a update big time.

In the meantime, who are the sharks targetting to pick on this year?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Whoever is playing Tampa Bay, St. Louis, K.C., Arizona, Buffalo, Jacksonville. These teams look like dogs to me right now.

I have the Bears D lined up against the Lions. Do not get fooled by preseason. Remember the Bears destroyed the Lions last year at home early in the year without Urlacher and Peppers. Sure the Lions look better but on the road, in week 1, expect the Bears D to show up big.

For week 2 - go with Raiders. You get St louis playing in Oakland. Should be some turn overs, and the Raiders D looks much improved this year

Good sign that Oakland has yet to be mentioned. Baby steps.
I thought about Oakland but to my dismay I have them finishing .500. Which is a huge improvement. Plus, Grimace is no longer the QB. They need Bush back STAT if they want .500. If Schillens can play half the season they could even get to 9, 10 wins with some good D, which they have. I'm not a Raider fan but would like to see Campbell win.

This.. BUF is my first choice.... despite tons of talent at RB they are a mess at OL and crap at QB... So MIA is my week 1 DEF.STL when Bradford first starts (watch all the blitzing of the rookie make his head spin)... TB--I don't think they're that great--but still might be putting things together... third worst?AZ, JAX and KC have standouts at at the skill positions (first two just lack QB talent IMO)-- but have the other pieces inplace... so they might put up numbers if they figure out how to make bad QB's look good. KC--less standout talent at the skill positions but IMO better QB.... just need to see how they gel... So these 3 are down on my list of choices until I see how their O plays out.I agree DET seems much improves on O. DET D meanwhile... start all your QB's and WRs vs DET.

I'll add NY Jets to that list..Sanchez looks awful, just terrible under center thus far...I'd also add Dallas to that list if that o-line doesn't improve..I know their missing a few guys slated to start opening day, but still..it is time to worry in Dallas..

Good luck planning your year around defenses playing against Dallas. That's going to be one of the most prolific offenses in football.

I know it's preseason, but the Panthers offense has been pretty anemic so far. Matt Moore has completed less than 50% of his passes. They've scored only 12, 3, and 15 points thus far. My main fantasy defense is the Eagles, but they play GB in the first week, so I went to waivers and picked up the Giants, as Carolina will be coming to the Meadowlands in week one.

I don't think the Panthers are playing Panther football right now. They are playing "Let's see what we can do if we have to pass a lot." Once the season starts, I suspect they'll go back to a more conservative style of offense, which should lead to better things for the offense, as a whole.

I'm going to actually stick up for the Bills.

In 2008 they ranked 23rd in scoring in the preseason and 23rd in the regular season.

In 2007 they ranked 27th in scoring in the preseason and 30th in the regular season.

(NFL.com doesn't seem to have 2009 preseason stats for some reason).

In 2010 they're currently ranked 4th in scoring offense.

They're 22nd in the league in passing which is clearly subpar. They're 11th in completion percentage though and tied for 9th in the league for lowest number of INTs thrown (with just 2). They've also only given up just 3 sacks. That's good for 2nd best in the league. Their overall QB rating is good enough for 12th in the league. They're 5th in the league in rushing yards per game. They're first in number of 20+ yard runs. They also lead the league with zero fumbles.

They've scored 48 of their 86 points in the first half of games. So it's not like their backups are the ones doing all of the scoring.

I know that the Bills have traditionally been bad and that they have a lot of the same players. But Chan Gailey is making a huge impact on this team so far. He's the first guy that has had any clue on how to use Roscoe Parrish, one of the most dangerous guys in the open field. Another huge factor could just be health. The offensive line saw every starter hurt at some point last year. Many of them missing huge chunks of times. And lots of backups injured as well. Even the TEs were hurt a ton. This year, all Buffalo offensive linemen are being required to wear knee braces to help prevent those types of injuries. Buffalo also finally got rid of their terrible strength and conditioning guy.

This team has a legitimate chance at being a decent offense. People can scoff and feel free to ignore me. I fully recognize that I could just be looking at things through rose colored glasses worn by a homer. But I think that there are plenty of legitimate reasons, backed up with the statistics so far, that show that this team could actually have an actual NFL offense this year.

Good discussion so far.

Interesting that there's no clear concensus yet on the one or two terrible defenses that all are looking to target early on. Sounds like some of the bad offensive teams had actually made some corrections off-season.

So far it sounds like TB, StL, KC, and possibly the Jets are in the lead for last... if that makes any sense.

Who said the Bills OLine is a mess? I would call them one of the top 10, perhaps top 5 OLines in football.

Just because they have one of the worst QBs and no WR corps with what was mediocre RBs (now Spiller) does not mean the OLine sucked. Fred Jackson is NOT that good, and he had 1400+ YFS last year. Not to mention the fact that they had a bunch of injuries last season and should be even better this year. 2 top draft picks going into their second years and gelling even more? That OLine could be incredible.

Now, they could still be great for your defense because the QB and WRs suck so bad, but let's get the process right.

I want STL, CLE, TB, and SEA whenever I can get them, although SEA to a much lesser degree. I'd like a piece of the Steelers the first 4-6 weeks also. If Kolb falters (and I hope to hell he doesn't) then the Eagles would be a very tasty matchup as well.

I don't put a whole lot of stock into the preseason, and I know Smith and Stewart haven't played, but Carolina's offense is 0 for 42 this preseason. That's right: they've scored 0 td's on offense this preseason in 42 possessions! And they did give DWill 9 carries last game and he totaled 13 yards, so it's not like they're exclusively passing the football.

You guys are forgetting that Delhomme is good for 2 or 3 int's a game these days.
I don't know. The guy has actually looked like the old Jake this preseason. And while I initially thought the Browns were crazy for giving him all that jack, Mike Holgrem knows things about qb's. The Steelers sans Big Ben are a juicier matchup than Cleveland, imo.

While I agree that they have no business being mentioned in this thread, I'm starting to have serious doubts about Dallas having a prolific offense this season. Their oline is already falling apart. And they've been playing so poorly that Wade was talking about playing the starters in the last preseason game. The last movie I've seen with a similar plotline was the Redskins, and let's just say they didn't light the fantasy world on fire with their offense that season.

St Louis. Cleveland. Tampa Bay. NY Jets. Seattle.

eta--In the only Team D league I'm in, I took SF and Miami Ds.

Those give me only two hard weeks--week 2 (NO, MIN) and week 4 (ATL, NE).

THe rest of the season, I get:

Seattle (2), Buffalo (2), Jets (2), Raiders (2), Rams (2),

Denver, TB, Bears, Browns, Lions.

Not exactly on target with the rest of the discussion, but I'm considering San Fran & Oakland as a DTBC.

wk1 - SF/@Sea

wk2 - @Oak/St.L

wk3 - SF/@KC

wk4 - SF/@Atl

wk5 - @SF/Phi

wk6 - @SF/Oak or Oak/@SF

wk7 - Oak/@Den

wk8 - @Oak/Sea or @SF/Den

wk9 - @Oak/KC

wk10 - @SF/St.L

wk11 - @SF/TB

wk12 - SF/@Ari of @Oak/Mia

wk13 - Oak/@SD

playoffs

wk14 - @SF/Sea

wk15 - @Oak/Den

wk16 - SF/@St.L

Weeks 4, 5, & 13 could be tough, but the rest looks pretty good IMO.
