Fox Sports' Adam Schein reports that Thomas Jones had an Achilles' strain that eventually led to his calf strain.Achilles problems often lead to other injuries. Schein says Jones should be ready for the regular-season opener, this is a situation to monitor. Jones could be an injury risk early in the year if Schein's report is on target. Aug. 19 - 11:13 pm et
And yes, i am a fan of leon washington as a sleeper this year.

TJ is on the wrong side of 30, and Leon showed some spark last year. I'm drafting tomorrow night in Jersey, but I'm hoping I can get him 24 hours under the radar and bag him between round 8-10 of a 12 teamer.

Jones has achilles and calf injury

By Hoss Aultman

Posted Aug 19, 2007

SNY NFL insider Adam Schein is reporting that Jets tailback Thomas Jones had an achilles injury that led to his calf strain.

"A source close to Thomas Jones tells me that the orginal injury the running back had was an achilles strain, and as a result of favoring that injury, one week ago in practice, he suffered a calf strain," said Schein on SNY's Geico Sportsnite. "The same source did tell me, Adam, he will be ready for the New England Patriots game in Week One. Achilles strains can linger thoughout the course of a ca

I strained my achilles playing basketball when I was in my 20s, it stayed swollen and tender for months..much different than a muscle strain.

Leon Washington is the very definition of a backup running back. Nothing to worry about for TJ owners.
Joey Harrington is the very definition of a backup QB. Nothing to worry about Vick owners. :goodposting: An achilles injury is definitely something to worry about. Leon could perform well if TJ were to miss any time. I would definitely bump him up a few notches above other backups.

Leon Washington is a joke. If you actually think he is going to help your team then your team is worse than you think.Secondly, the injury is a strain...it's a nice excuse to rest for the remainderof the preseason. nough said.

hey, good luck my friend. I have seen enough to know I'm not a fan. Only a bye week fill-in if you are completely desperate, imo.

Let's compare Washington to Maroney for a second. Yes, I'm serious. Let's look at their stats for their rookie seasons...Maroney - ADP 01.11

175 rushes, 745 yards, 4.3 avg, 6 TDs

22 receptions, 194 yards, 1 TD

Total: 939 yards, 7 TDs for 135.9 fantasy points in non-PPR, 157.9 in PPR

Washington - ADP 12.12

151 rushes, 650 yards, 4.3 avg, 4 TDs

25 receptions, 270 yards, 0 TDs

Total: 920 yards, 4 TDs for 116 fantasy points in non-PPR, 141 in PPR

Now that's what I call value. No doubt MAroney sees a large increase but the point is that you label Maroney a future stud while completely discounting Washington. I'm not saying that Washington will be as good as Maroney - just that you should look a little deeper at his numbers and re-think your initial opinion on if he should be worth of a spot on your roster. I'm grabbing him in every league I can in the 12th round. You could do much worse that late.

Having Leon Washington on your team is like having an ugly wife that is a great cook. You want to keep her, but you don't want to show her to anyone.

I think people are underestimating Leon Washington. If you saw him play last year...he was not the biggest or fastest, but he sure seemed to always make plays when he was on the field. He will eat into Thomas Jones' numbers some this year...not a full RBBC or anything, but enough to make a difference. It's not like Thomas Jones is a star or something. He is a good player, but not great.

I'd be more worried about the achilles and calf than Leon Washington.
:goodposting: As bad as the Jets looked Friday night - Leon still "got his" Vs maybe the best Run defense in the league with an OL still in transition. He was one of the few bright spots.
That's pretty funny. I seem to remember Leon 'getting his' last season as well whenever everyone else was sucking.

Why all the hate for a guy that the only two games he was asked to carry the ball more than 20 times last year - he ran for 100+ yards?

Right.Sounds like we agree.... :hifive: The guy is good.

If he was so good....they wouldn't have brought in TJ. He might make a decent RB4....but i won't want to rely on him week in, week out.

good news i hope:

Jets RB Thomas Jones missed the Minnesota game because of a strained right calf but expects to be ready for the season. In fact, he has begun working his legs on the exercise bike, something he wasn't doing in the first few days following his injury, which was suffered on Aug. 12, according to The Sports Xchange.
