Thomas Rawls, RB, CMU/Seahawks (1 Viewer)

I truly believe that when healthy Prosise will emerge as the guy. I know it's the when healthy part that is the issue...

Why?

He didn't emerge last year when the Seahawks also had RB injuries.

He doesn't profile as the big physical bruiser they seem to favor.

And now McKissic is also in the mix with the same skillset as Prosise.

I like Prosise, but from where I'm sitting, things don't seem to be lining up for him.

I would have to agree with all of this. Either Lacy or Rawls, or a combination of them, will be the early down guys. Even during the game, the broadcasters were talking about how McKissic has changed his running style to fit the physical style that Carroll prefers.

Pretty sure they were talking about Carson here. Still, it's completely up in the air how this all shakes out. Not sure if any of them are going to be good and healthy enough to be reliable fantasy options for any length of time.

Carroll talks up everyone all the time, so IMO one would be wise to ignore what he says and focus on what he does.
Definitely this, and it makes sense for reasons ranging from keeping players motivated/engaged to keeping opponents uncertain.

It's not uncommon for things to go from "we're excited to see him out there tearing it up" on Wednesday to healthy scratch on Sunday.

Yep, I remember this quote too and it was definitely about Carson.

My mistake. The point still remains the same in that Carroll favors the physical running style, which isn't Carson or McKissic. So I would imagine Rawls/Lacy or a combo would be the early down backs. But who the hell knows.

Prosise, lol.

Agreed. But Prosise plays a big role when healthy and something tells me McKissic will be worked in even if it kills him, literally.

Seahawks to turn back to Thomas Rawls after Chris Carson injury

Posted by Curtis Crabtree on October 5, 2017, 12:21 AM EDT
That's a misleading title. It makes it sound like Rawls is the guy, but from the actual article, Carroll said he would be relying on them both. I just hope one of them establishes themselves over the other this week.

Rawls has a more proven history with Seattle and plays with the type of edginess and chippy shoulder that Carroll seems to love.

My money would be on Rawls starting, Lacy getting a couple series in the first half to show what he's got and then Carroll riding the hot hand from there.

Edge: Rawls

I agree, although I have a not-insignificant fear that Rawls comes out and goes something like 8 carries for 18 yards, and establishes that he *isn't* the hot hand.

But he hasn't been productive for the team in a while. Carroll is one of the few HCs in the league that will go with the best player, not necessarily who their favorite is or who they want to have the job. Rawls was a healthy scratch this past week which is also interesting. I would imagine Carroll is going to give them both a shot, unless the first guy in does very good

Not disagreeing with your general assessment....but my take on the "healthy scratch" label last week is a little different.

Rawls had a high ankle sprain from the preseason which is notorious for lingering.

My sense is Carroll just gave him an extra week to heal given Indy was the opponent and SEA is pretty deep at the position.

Was Rawls active week 3?

Yes but received zero touches.
So if he's dealing with the high ankle sprain, and inactive Week 4 because of that, why would he be active Week 3? I'm not trying to piss in anybody's Cheerios here, but just trying to make sense of this situation. I know NFL.com's analysis was that Lacy is the better pass catcher and with Prosise out, that's why they chose Lacy over Rawls. And that could be true, but it's speculation just like we're doing here, so nothing definitive or coming out of Seattle about that.

Picked him up as an end of the bench speculative add. He should beat out Lacy for the 1-2 down back role. I'm not too sure that the O-Line figures things out. Seattle has ran hot at the end of the past few seasons, so there is a chance that Rawls gives owners a solid boost down the stretch. We'll see.

He's sorta fragile...2 articles in Seattle Times today.  One said don't count out Lacy.  The other this one - Rawls' last chance.  Looking at the # of games he played in college and now the pros I have zero confidence in him being healthy for even small stretches in the NFL.

That's an interesting article. I'm a Rawls fan but he has had some struggles. He had a 100 yard game end of last year & IIRC one in the playoffs but otherwise even when healthy it's been pedestrian. The article mentions the 7 for -7 game against the Rams last year, but he also had a 21/34 game against them. That was followed by RS games of 8/8, 8/14, & 5/4.

The only thing we do know is that Prosise is most likely going to be out...so Stinky Pete only has three RBs to choose from.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll seemed to hint Thomas Rawls will be the lead back with Chris Carson (ankle) sidelined

"With Chris being banged up, we’re so fortunate to have Thomas ready to jump back out there," Carroll said. "We’re just lucky that we have a guy like that who’s ready to go and is healthy and all that
The problem is people were looking for hints instead of seeing with their eyes what was happening. Lacy ready to do werk.

Isn't LA's D really tough against the run? I have no choice but to start Rawls this week due to byes but I don't expect much. As long as he comes out healthy, I consider that a win.

So what's the latest on the SEA backfield?  I know it's probably considered and "avoid" situation due to the uncertainty and the possibility that 4 backs are viable options at this point, but SEA gets the Rams at home and plays @ DAL in weeks 15 and 16 so having the correct back (assuming one lead back emerges) is beneficial.  I think everyone assumes Rawls/Lacy are vying for the lead back role while the 3rd down role is open to Prosice and McKissic.  Most depth charts show the order as Rawls, Lacy, Procise and McKissic - is that the way everyone sees it?

Lacy was cut in both of my leagues this week (odd timing considering he was held through the bye in both) but that seems premature.  Has Rawls won the lead back role?

Don’t pay attention to Seattle backfield enough to know, but Bloom is fairly high on him this week and might be worth asking in the ask bloom thread come Sunday.

I traded two RBs for a WR this morning and had a bench spot open so I added him because of that, as he was sitting as a FA. But I know very little. When I lost Carson I stopped paying much attention to Seattle.

I think Rawls is flying under the radar to an extent. I watched he and Lacy's touches last week and Rawls looked better. Rawls just has a lot more pep in his step and I don't think Lacy can do anything that Rawls can't. I know what the stat lines say (that they both sucked) but I was honestly a bit surprised to see Rawls look similar to what he has in previous years. I guess I just completely counted him.

Lacy started the game but ultimately played on 28% of the snaps to Rawls 47%. With Prosise healthy I think we see something like a 60/30/10 split (Rawls/Prosise/Lacy). I'm debating grabbing Rawls in a couple spots just to see how this plays out before it becomes obvious that things are trending up for him.

Grabbed Rawls in 2015 and happily rode him for a bunch of weeks.

Drafted and held last year till his season ended.

Drafted again in 2017.

Dropped last week for McFadden IIRC.

Already feeling dropper's remorse, and he still hasn't done anything since 2015.

Is anyone ‘buying’ on Thomas Rawls going forward?  Coming off a bye week he’s going to be as healthy as can be. I know their o-line is suspect, and Lacy & Prosise are there too...but can Rawls be THE guy??

I picked him up in my two leagues. Lacy has shown no improvement. Rawls is finally healthy and PC loves him. I think he will be the man going forward. He will have volume and upside and in reality you are picking him up as a RB 4 or 5.

A lot of hand wringing over the Dalla DMac/Alf situation but Seattle is a winning team which will put its RBs in scoring position during the year. I think one or both of Rawls & Lacy will have value during the reminder of the season.

I'm listening to any and all offers in dynasty after first sign of life

Same.   But I also feel like on a team with a better o line he can do quite well as a feature runner.  Rawls just isn’t the type of back who can create on his own with poor o line play.   He needs blocking.  I think prosise (assuming health) is going to steal this job starting this week.  Meaning he will have the more relevant game out of the 3 sea backs this week and moving forward will eat into their touches rendering hem worthless.

Prosise strikes me as the only guy I that backfield that can transcend poor o line play and be game script proof.

It's tough. When he is on, he passes the eyeball test with flying colors. Maybe he can revive his career on another team. Just don't know where he can go and really compete for quality touches. Maybe he can replace Stewart in CAR.

Lacy is a non-factor. He' terrible. It all boils down to whether or not Rawls is or will ever be back to 100% health. We have all seen what a stud he is at full strength. But after a certain amount of injuries, some guys just never get it all back. I guess we shall see. You are right about him being well-rested. This could be his and now or never period.
