Thoughts on Dan Orlovsky... (1 Viewer)

Team

I was all set on going into my championship game with Dan at the helm. My reasonings...

He's played pretty darn well when he starts. He has a great matchup against the Saints below average corners. They want a win, Saints have nothing to play for. Even though they have nothing to play for, they will still hang 30+ points on the Lions defense, so the Lions will be trying to keep up.

Then I see FBGs rankings and I figure I must be missing something.

What happened to your regular QB?
Well I didn't want this to be a WDIS thread so I don't want to list my others. I never draft a QB early so I never really end up with a "regular" QB. This year is no different. I just play whoever has the best matchup. It's worked well.I'd think a middle of the pack ranking for Dan would be low this week... so it's kind of shocking seeing what it is. Do they plan on playing the other QBs for evaluation purposes? Is Calvin not going to play?

I'm from the DET area, there has been no talk of rotating QB's. Dan O. should play all game & have heard no news of CJ sitting.

He and Calvin will play the whole game as they are trying not to set NFL record for losses. Dan will likely get you more than 10 fant pts.

i may have to start him over Warner...who is playing in a blizzard. Not real confident in him, but he will be throwing a lot and has a great WR that could easily torch Jason David for a long td

Well..Dan O will definitely play all of the game and as a Detroit homer i've heard no threat of him sitting unless he gets hurt or stinks up the place on Sunday. I am in a similar situation with Eli against Carolina(maybe in touchy weather) or Dan O as an option. If weather looks iffy I have no problems playing Orlovsky. He's protected the ball well and moved the offense pretty well vs. Indy last week. I could have grabbed Wallace or Jackson off waivers but picked up Danny O instead. My gut tells me this game will be pretty high scoring..best of all No Snow to factor in.

Come on, I've read all the weather reports so far. That's a little over the top.

My plan is to play Orlovsky over Seneca Wallace in a start 2 QB league (other QB is Cassel) for the championship. Seeing the FBG rankings was a bit shocking this morning considering the difference between the two, but I still think Dan O is the better play.

Giving serious thought to starting Orlovsky over Roethlisberger in my start-2 QB league. I don't see much upside with Roethlisberger but there could be a ton with Orlovsky.

The Lions can want a win all they want, it doesnt mean they are getting it. Orlovsky stinks and has no targets outside of Calvin, who will be triple teamed, with no threat of a running game... which means expect a few picks. I say he puts up 190 yard, 1 TD and two or three INTs. Can you live with those numbers? Over Eli or Warner?

you haven't been paying attention lately

Oh please - Minnesota was caught snoozing and the colts had a sloppy half. You guys are reading WAY too much into that. The Lions will come back down to earth (from their miraculous run of losing two games by only a non humiliating amount) and will be embarrassed again.

some good discussion in here. I'm looking for a QB this week as well. These guys all seem bunched together to me for one reason or another:

Thigpen v Mia (bad weather in KC)

Wallace v Jets D (not bad if he can get the time)

Favre v Sea (bad weather, poor stats for Favre, but great match-up)

Garrard v Indy (they have been giving up pass yards lately, but Jax is missing to many rec's.

Ben @ Tenn (touch match-up, decent weather)

Flacco @ Dal (intriguing with good weather)

Edwards @ Den (moderate weather and great match-up)

Tarvaris v ATL (no weather)

Pennington @ KC (bad weather)

Jake Delhomme @ nyg (bad match-up, bad weather)

Bulger v SF (good match-up, but nobody can rely on a Ram)

Orlovsky v NO (good match-up and he played OK last week)

I am a little reluctant to roll with Dan O. as I already have Calvin in the line-up. Certainly a lot of evenly rated guys in my book

I'm in my championship game thanks to every player on my team except qb. My choices this week are

Orton v GB

Ryan v Minn

Bulger v SF

Orlovsky v NO

I am seriously thinking of going with either Orlovsky or Bulger but haven't decided yet. Orton looked pitiful last week against NO so I don't know if Orlovsky can do any better. bulger has been sad all year but has a good matchup and did ok against SF the first game. Ryan can't find the endzone lately. I don't know if Orton can do any better than he did last week. I think Orlovsky's problem is that he doesn't have anyone else besides Megatron to throw to.

I'm rolling the dice with Orlovsky this week (start-2 QB league). So far his floor has been 220 yards and a TD. If that's the worst he'll do, that isn't too bad and arguably as good as the best Roethlisberger (who I'm likely sitting Orlovsky for - teaming him with Orton, who has a cake matchup against the Packers) can do most weeks. So my feeling is the worst that'll happen is it will be a wash but the best is Orlovsky has considerably higher upside given how the Lions have a better matchup and Orlovsky will likely have to put a lot of points on the board to try and keep up with the Saints. Conversely, the Steelers could play from the front against a weakened Titans' defense, limiting Roethlisberger's need to throw. Vegas also has the over at 50.5 so they believe there will be plenty of scoring in this game.

Anybody else decide to throw caution to the wind and chase the points and Orlovsky this week?

I am considering picking up Danny O and starting him over Warner. Last year, I was on the winning side of the week 15 bad weather game in New England as my opponent had Brady. Danny O has looked decent and has put up nice yardage. He will be at home and the Lions will likely be playing from behind. I doubt I'll have the courage to do it, but am thinking about it.

I have this dilemma too...but i will wait until the last minute for the latest weather.Such a shame weather can effect what could be the most explosive fantasy point game this yearI have Warner, Fitzgerald, Cassel, S.Morris, R.Moss in 2 leagues.

The over/under for this game is 50 and it appears the game will be a shootout. On the one hand you have Det who does not want to lose and go 0-16 and this may be their best chance at home.

Second, you have Drew Brees who will likely have free reign to throw it all around to try and put himself in a position to beat Marino's yardage record next week. The Lions will NOT pack it in this week. They will try and win the game. So in order to keep up with Brees and his gun slinging, Dan O will also be throwing it around.

Lots of QBs have put up good numbers against NO's pass defense. I expect Dan O to have a good game stat wise.

I have Warner and I'm thinking of playing Dan inside the dome in what looks like an offensive shootout.

I think he'll have 200+ and 2 TDs tomorrow... hopefully both to Calvin Johnson!

Going with Or over Big Ben and Wallace, with no doubts. 279 w/ 3 TDs. 2 to Calvin one to K. Smith. Sleeper kicker this week is Hanson, if your scoring gives a bonus for long FGs.

Im rolling with Or, Calvin, K smith in my flex and Hanson, with 500 on the line, and I have no worries.

Lots of scoring this week at Ford Field. Im just glad the guy Im playing does not have any Saints.

Well these guys seem to think DanO has some merit over some bigger names this week

http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/nfl/news?s...oll-08week16-qb
So Yahoo has him 15th, and Rotoworld has him 18th. http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/features/...p;article=31908

Sportsline has him 23rd. (18-30-202-1-1)

And both Dodds and Bloom have him 25th.

Personally, against an unmotivated and not too talented Saints defense, and having to throw a lot to play catch up with the Saints offense, in a dome with no weather issues, I see Orlo with 225 to 250+ yards and 1-2 TDs. He's also playing for a shot to start next year until the 1st round rookie is ready. He's plenty motivated to succeed.

I don't know why he wouldn't have 15 - 18 FP, rather than the 13.9 and 13.6 that Dodds and Bloom project him with.

His last 4 games have been --

HOU ---- Pass: 12 - 25 - 265 - 1 - 0 .... Run: 2 - 10 - 0 .... 19.2FP

WAS --- Pass: 21 - 35 - 223 - 1 - 0 .... Run: 2 - 17 - 0 .... 17.8FP

CHI ----- Pass: 28 - 47 - 292 - 2 - 2 .... Run: 2 - 02 - 0 .... 20.8FP

IND ----- Pass: 23 - 34 - 233 - 1 - 0 .... Run: 0 - 00 - 0 .... 16.6FP

Considering starting him as my QB2 is a start 2 league over Garcia. Fearful that Jeff won't be able to go the whole game after listening to Gruden this week. Still haven't decided.

Ok

Bottom Line..I am in 2 Championships

I have Cassel in one game and Warner in the other

Would you start Dan O in both games instead on Cassel and Warner?

Book em DanO?

What a crazy season

Really can't make up my mind on Orlovsky or Garcia. Somebody convince me of the right call here.

ETA: With the weather in NE and Boldin likely out, maybe I should start them both and sit Warner. :lmao:

I would probably start DO over Warner who has never played in the snow (shocking).

But I have Cassel and don't know if I want to sit him for DO??????

Link

Orlovsky made an effort to throw the ball to Johnson last week, hitting him nine times.

"I'm really not going to throw to him too much this week -- send that to New Orleans," Orlovsky said. "I'm going to try to get him double-digit catches. The more the ball is in his hands, the better chance we have to win."
Orlovsky gets it.

Oh well. I guess that's why you guys can charge for this... Your initial ranking was spot on. I apologize if my thread convinced any of you to give O a start.

In my case it didn't matter. I got my ### kicked no matter which QB I started.

OK. I drank the Kool Aid and started him. Might cost me my playoff game. I need a big night out of Orton tonight (gulp) to save my season.

Who else drank the Kool Aid?
