Thoughts on Zach Thomas this season (1 Viewer)

I don't think Zach's washed up, however he comes with a risk. I'm not confident he will be all that productive in a 3-4, or come close to the type of production Thomas' owners are accustom to.

Not unless he brought the Official Score Keeper with him from Miami. :goodposting: With that being said I don't think he's washed up, but I don't see him being as productive in this scheme as he was in Miami. I put him on 70 Tackles and 25 Assists with a sack.

Apparently Zach will not be a 3 down backer, per FBG Training Camp Update. With the what looks to be a high powered Dallas offense, many teams will probably be playing catchup, giving Zach even less playing time.

I'm not necessarily buying this. Bradie James, helmet communicator or not, will not be playing on passing downs. Kevin Burnett has the other communicator and he's the unquestioned nickel/dime backer. The big question for me is whether Anthony Henry continues to get snaps as a nickel LB. Much of that depends on just how many of the stud corners the Cowboys may have end up eligible and able to play. If Jones, Newman and Jenkins are all ready to play, Henry and Hamlin can help hide Roy Williams in a 4-1-6 dime/big nickel package. If Thomas sits on every passing down, his value takes a sizable hit (ignoring the concussion concerns). However, Matt Wilhelm in a similar role, pushed 90 solos last year and I still believe Thomas is a better player with a similar supporting cast. I still think Thomas can be a solid LB2 with upside. Should be interesting to see the Cowboys preseason games.

I agree about Bradie, Roy Williams playing a LB role is the good bet, Carpenter may be a wild card. The difference between Wilhelm and Zach is Dallas' high powered offense, I think opponents could be having to air it out much of the 4th quarter and Dallas will be grinding it out with Barber. I've just have a gut feeling Zach is not going to be quite as productive (stat wise) as many think he is.

I'm on the other side of the fence on Zach Thomas. I think the injuries are going to have a negative affect at some point, and he is also getting up in years and that has to catch up to him someday. I also wonder if they will limit his snaps at all given his age and injury history.

I may be wrong, but I'm staying away.
