because parents are ridiculous #######s?We're having a hard time keeping referees for soccer around here. For this very reason.
Any reason you couldn't go up to her after the game, thank her and tell her she did a good job, and then just encourage her to be more assertive the next time that kind of situation comes up?They get paid. It's a pretty good job for a kid around here. I just like to see a kid do well at their job. Like if a grocery bagger puts the eggs at the bottom of a bag you do them a service to tell them they did something wrong. Some poor girl volunteers to help and of course the parents should make a huge deal about the meaningless goal to embarrass her and make her uncomfortable in order to teach her a lesson. What kind of example do you want to show to your kids letting this major injustice go? You gotta show your kids examples of what ####### parents look like.spreagle said:Last weeks soccer game my kid took a shot, it hit the top post, went down clearly into the goal by about two feet, the spun back out into the field. The line judge had a good view of it and meekly called it a goal, but the referee at midfield yelled NO GOAL PLAY ON. We were sitting right next to her and said "you know you called it a goal and should probably overrule the referee" but I think she was afraid to (because she was a new line judge among other reasons I won't get into). We didn't push it because that was my kids fourth goal and they were up 12-0 at the time, but in retrospect we should have hassled her a bit more (of course parents aren't supposed to hassle the refs so that's another reason we didn't push it) because it would have been a good experience for her to man up and make the right call.
That's a good suggestion and if something similar happens again (not some ticky tack stuff but a blatant error) I'll do that. They want parents to clam up with regards to referees or coaching from the sidelines so I feel like if you say something during the game you are pushing your luck. The refs, even the 15 year old kids, will throw people out of the games. For the record I never yell at the refs.Any reason you couldn't go up to her after the game, thank her and tell her she did a good job, and then just encourage her to be more assertive the next time that kind of situation comes up?They get paid. Listen
if we cannot scream at referees over kids games to make us feel like we are professionals then what the #### is the point of having kids. We are supposed to force our kids to take sports seriously to compensate for our athletic failures. That's genetically wired into us.
sure my kid might hate soccer, but 40 years of my athletic failure is all riding on him being great at soccer. So if some kid trying to ref the game robs me of that you had damn well bet I am going to lay the verbal fury on that P.O.S like no one's business, I'm going gun of the Navarone on his or her pimpled butt. THIS IS MY LIFE (being lived vicariously through my kid who is being turned into an ####### thanks to my ridiculous antics)
I thought he kept them outside.Jayrod let them outWhere does he keep his dogs?
Yeah dude normally I'm all over you on the religious wackiness, but even I can't connect the dots that they are. Just ignore them.Nevermind. Not in the mood for a religious debate.Check the OP.How am I "looking for redemption"?Not kidding. I've refereed/judged/umpired many sports and it's always the church guys who have to justify/explain/look for redemption. There's a reason why church leaders refer to followers as a flock. You churchies really like to look for redemption at all turns, huh?![]()
Way to get the poor guy fired.
ETA - I can't wait for the "Getting weird texts from the fired coach" thread![]()
Sounds like he deserves to get canned.Just found out that this coach is getting canned because of his behavior. This was his first year at the school. He won multiple state championships in Ohio before moving here and his son is a D-1 quarterback. This has got to be a huge blow to the ego.
Not that I wanted him fired. I just wanted him to not be a jackass on the sideline, but apparently he had 5 unsportsmanlike penalties called on him and his staff this year out of 10 games. That is a problem. They also only won 2 games but this school is hardly a top notch program.
I'm actually really shocked at the news.
It amazes me that there are still enough people out there willing to ref/umpire sports games. Especially youth sports. What a thankless job. I umped two little league games, one girls' softball game, and one session of men's league basketball - all of which were a horrible enough experience to never desire to do it again.Just talked with my crew chief. This was the third unsportsmanlike penalty this coach has gotten in five games.
Also, we are having a hard time getting and keeping new officials in our area for football.
You probably wouldn't even have thrown the flag if the coach let his kids play like real men and leave their helmets off
