Thrillist's Best Beer Bars In US - What's Yours? (1 Viewer)

Some of my favorites in no particular order:

1. Four Peaks, Tempe, AZ - dropped in reputation due to the owner "selling out" but, man, to me this is the gold standard for craft brewery/restaurant/atmosphere. AZ Wilderness (Gilbert) and That Brewery (Pine) are pretty awesome in following in this bar's footsteps.

2. The Happy Gnome, St. Paul, MN - it's as good as the article describes.

3. Pizza Port, San Diego, CA - beer, pizza, and a cool atmosphere.

4. JP O'Malley's, Allentown, PA -This place was a craft beer bar long before it was cool to be.  And I just read it closed. :(

5. Park Plaza Liquor and Deli, Prescott, AZ - holy #### this place is like a Mecca of beer selection.

6. The State Bar, Flagstaff, AZ - fun place with all local stuff.

Agree.  Also, need to have staples, but also a handful of revolving kegs that signfies that the owners/managers are on top of their game
And pay very good attention to  cleaning the lines/maintenance.  beer people know when they're getting old beer.

:goodposting: before the craft beer revolution there was more of an appeal.  Two successful beer bar franchise concepts spawned out of FL around this time, World of Beer & Brass Tap.  They were, and still are plugged in on the craft scene, and offer a great variety of bottles & drafts.  World of Beer was first, and originally just sold beer.  Then Brass Tap came out, and offered liquor & food.  Now, World of Beer has began to offer food l, and is going more to a restaurant like place, as opposed to neighborhood bar.  The places are still cool, and preferable if you want to watch a game.  However, there are so many breweries & tasting rooms around now, that I'd rather go to one of these if I'm going for the beer.  That's where you get the stuff that doesn't always make it to the masses at the beer bars.  More nitros & rarities.  I'm amazed this bubble hasn't popped to be honest.
Wow, didn't know these guys came from Florida.  They're in AZ now and are both pretty good.

The bubble will pop once everyone realizes that most IPA’s suck, and stops drinking them because it’s the cool thing to order.
And when people get off your lawn?

You're killing the vibe of this thread. :lmao:

When your palate matures past that of a 12 year old child, you can start posting in here again.

7. Wandering Tortoise, Phoenix, AZ - Icon would probably consider this place hell since it's a hipster's paradise, but it always has a wonderfully fresh rotating 20 taps with unique options and the servers are great.  They don't serve food but are next to an awesome fish place and will get food trucks on occasion.

You're getting dumber as the thread goes on.

WoB has a good selection and I will go from time to time if they have something rare, but it has the worst possible atmosphere.

Not going to happen because they are delicious.

Joe Jost's

Long Beach,CA.
I've lived in SoCal all but 8 years of my life and only live 20ish minutes away and yet have never been there.  Does it really have a killer beer selection or does this belong in the "your favorite dive" thread?

Agreed. I have a hard time imagining someone old enough to drink that would buy something they didn't like because someone said it was cool. I guess those people exist but I'm pretty sure I don't drink with any of them. And conversely, I can't imagine looking down on anyone drinking something because I didn't think it was cool. Why in the world would I care what someone else drinks?

Probably our most successful local brewery swore they would never make an IPA, which was disappointing. The couple that owns it is awesome, and makes great beer. He's got an awesome home brew shop next to the brewery that's been around since '95. Every home brewer in the area has probably pulled his ear at some point for help. When the brewery opened, I tried like hell to drink as much of the beer as I could, but no IPA? Just couldn't do it. I appreciate other styles, but IPA/APA's are all I really care to drink on a consistent basis.

Anyway, a couple years ago he caved in, launched an IPA (fittingly, called it Hell's Frozen). Somehow, the brewery was wildy successful without an IPA (the dude is good), but the IPA still quickly became his best seller.

Sorry. IPA's aren't going anywhere.

Especially now that Hazy juicy citrus bombs of NE IPA are everywhere you look.

Looking at you Civil Society,  and much more locally Southern Swells.
