Confucius say the best trade is the one not made
Johnson was limited in practice with a groin injury. The guy always seems to be nursing some kind of ailment. You almost got it right. The time to sell AJ has not yet occurred. He's still the same guy. People have just seriously over-emphasized a year (2011) in which he was hurt. This line of thinking is like saying "Should have sold AP at the end of 2010". yeah, he got hurt last year and was down, but don't gloss over the fact that these guys are back now, healthy, and they still have all the skill they ever had.The NFL turns very quickly. And sometimes, it turns back. So, when you look at the texans in late september and say the Texans are world-beaters and they don't need to use AJ anymore, so therefore you should have sold, you might be overlooking what may be in December, when you REALLY want a proven stud WR1 that is the clear primary WR on his team. At that point of the season, against the teams they play, he might be a big part of some championship teams. Look past the "now" and examine the player. If you have elite players who flat out dominated their position for multiple seasons and they, themselves, haven't lost their skill, then there is no "shoulda sold them" date.BOOM! Keaton is right on the money. When looking at the OP, I had to check the posting date 3 times. I assumed it was from 2 years ago.....but alas, not the case.
The time to sell is not now. It was at the end of the 2010 season.
Name value my friend, it's a powerful thing.Traded him straight up for Mike Wallace- redraft. I was surprised when he accepted it.

Kerley's quickly become one of my favorite players. One bad week in 5, but still sitting on my taxi squad in dynasty. His Welker-lite impression may find his way into my lineup soon in both redraft and dynasty.Didn't expect much yesterday from AJ but the game was closer than I thought it would be. Disappointing that even in the close game he didn't do much.WRs who have outscored Andre Johnson in my league (he's 36th among WR)Andrew HawkinsMichael CrabtreeKendall WrightRandall Cobband my favoriteJeremy Kerley
I don't see Foster keeping up the pace of 24+ rushes. However, I do think that Tate and Forsett will take some of those from him, keeping him fresh for the playoffs. Not liking the outlook for Johnson as a plug and play WR1 at all this year. Defense is too good and they have one of the best running games in the league. Johnson's numbers get better when teams try to limit the running game but I don't see many teams on their schedule that really can effectively do that.In Arian Foster's career (39 regular season NFL games) he's had 24 rushes or more only 13 times. 4 were in 2010, 4 were in 2011, and so far every game of the 2012 season. There is no way he keeps this pace. His 4.0 yards per carry is the worst of his career and he's faced an easy part of his schedule. The running game cannot continue to be the only game in Houston.(Of course this could just be me trying to find the silver lining, I had AJ and a 5 point lead vs. Shayne Graham in a PPR league and lost)
He looked frustrated out there and Cromartie def shut him down. I've seen him play all season and this was out of character. He'll come back nicely. My only concern is injuries. He looked slow and mentally defeated to me. Cromartie was muscling him and constantly had his hands on him while Andre did not seem to put up a fight. He also stopped trying altogether on some run plays. Would not be surprised if he hung it up after this season.

IMO, his name alone will have owners asking you for more than Washington. Although, IMO, Washington may provide you with more upside for the next several weeks.I am testing the waters to see how far his reputation has gone. I offered Nate Washington for AJ. Can't wait for the reaction.![]()

Absolutely true, but this owner is generally more informed than most. I expected an instant decline.Name value my friend, it's a powerful thing.Traded him straight up for Mike Wallace- redraft. I was surprised when he accepted it.
Exactly what I think. He's not #####ing about lack of targets. His #1 goal is a SB win.Texans fan here and from sources inside, besides not needing to use AJ they are also limiting his usage to not wear him out before playoffs and to use him more down the stretch.
IMO they have a better shot at a SB win with a healthy Arian than a healthy Andre. Tate is a high quality backup who performs well, but he's not Foster. They've proven they can win easily by stifling opponents with a smashmouth defense and then pounding them into submission with the run. Effective, but those are hard yards that add up. There's a reason the league average is to run it about 43% of the time. Houston runs about 55% of the time. Only Seattle runs the ball more, and we all know why they keep it on the ground. Houston has run the 7th most offensive plays from scrimmage but have passed the ball less than 23 other teams. I'm guessing that has got to change.Exactly what I think. This. Cromartie is VERY good and AJ was blanketed all night. I'm not concerned at all. He will start breaking free soon, maybe even as soon as this week. You realize you are gambling here ... his value will be almost untradable if he puts up another Jets type performance.'money.never.sleeps said:Im holding him this week and hoping for a good outing vs the Packers then I'll sell. Be ridiculous to sell at this point with his value so low.
I am holding on Johnson right now. As mentioned, Green Bay is a very attractive matchup. I don't think Houston can just grind Arian Foster all day vs. the Packers. Johnson is a player that will be hard to start every week depending on the strength of the opponent. But against competitive teams, I think Johnson will please his owners on those days.Nelson, Jordy GBP WR Witten, Jason DAL TE for:Johnson, Andre HOU WR Hernandez, Aaron NEP TE
Well.. to be fair Im no longer in dynasty or Keepers leagues. 1 $ standard league team so his name alone can still fetch something with a few guys in my league. You're right though in terms of people shying away.. esp if he doesnt put up decent #s this week. Schedule actually looks decent for AJ and the passing game from here on out.Packers, Ravens, Bills can all be thrown on. Bears is a tougher matchup. Then you have the Jags, Lions, Titans. My only fear is that the Texans pound the rock if they get a sizable lead in the easier matchups which would hurt. I think if AJ has a nice game Sunday then it might be wise to deal him but if someone held him for those first 3 games and he produces obviously his value will fetch more on the open market. What Im actually hoping for which like you said is a gamble. You realize you are gambling here ... his value will be almost untradable if he puts up another Jets type performance.'money.never.sleeps said:Im holding him this week and hoping for a good outing vs the Packers then I'll sell. I'm holding, there is no point in selling low now.
Im also surprised how only a couple of people have mentioned that it was Cromartie who shut him down. While he may gamble more than some CB's, the guy is still a stud. Wouldnt surprise me at all if they saw something in how HOU has utilized AJ so far this year on tape and that gave him an advantage.Im still a little worried about injuries, but a flexible snap count is promising on that front. I dont think AJ has a shot to be a Top 5 WR this yr - mostly based on usage - but I think he has a chance at WR1 territory and is still a lock to be a Top 20 WR if he stays healthy.I read into that about as much as a drunk sitting at a bar saying how he really needs to cut back on his drinking. In other words, Kubiak isn't going to deviate too much from what he likes and that is running the ball.Coach Gary Kubiak said he's "got to a better job of getting [Andre Johnson] involved."Over the last four games, Johnson is averaging 2.2 catches for 41.0 yards with one touchdown. His 31 targets on the season rank 50th in the league, a reminder that the Texans run to win now and often take the air out of the ball while nursing leads. "Other guys are making plays because of Andre, I can tell you that, because they're paying so much attention to him, but still need to get him more involved with what we're doing, so that's my responsibility," Kubiak said. The Texans figure to need some extra scoring against the Packers this Sunday night. Oct 10 - 8:32 AMSource: HoustonTexans.com
Funny, I sold him yesterday and the Packer game was my main selling point. This Packers game feels like it's going to be a shootout. If you're going to sell Johnson, wait until next week.

I'm not sure a lot of people factor ral life into the equation sometimes when they talk up/down players. I don't know how much you guys that have posted on AJ being slow and embarrased and frustrated watch the Texans week in and week out, but I can tell you, you're dead wrong on this assessment. What happened Monday night was what the Texans do: They match their strength against other team's weaknesses. The Texans run the ball very well and the Jets can't stop anyone against the run. Just my opinion, but what I saw monday night was AJ taking the Jet's best and most athletic defender out of the equation against the run game. The Texans know that without the suport from the secondary, they can make Harris bite and miss when they cut back, opening up lanes on the outside of either guard. Aj is not dead, guys. He's just being used in real life. This is a hungry team with a great focus on what it takes to contend this year. Is is affecting AJ's fantasy value? Sure. But I definitely wouldn't bet against him having a nice stretch that is typical him this year. There is a difference between can and can't do it any longer. AJ is not to that point.well well well... hopefully everyone sold him before this game. As Sleeper43 stated, Andre looked slow off his release and routes. Cromartie was just quick and athletic enough to stay with him. Really embarrassing Monday night outing for Andre. Also, he ended up with 5 or 6 targets? This isn't the Andre we know. Of course his value is too low now but see if you can swing him for other struggling players with better upside.
I hear what you're saying but I dont believe that theory to be true. Just go back and watch the game. For starters, Cromartie is not the best of tacklers or a threat to tackle (See last years whiff on Tebow and many other tackling gaffs). Secondly, Cromartie blanketed Andre all night. When they'd show the 1 on 1 battle, Cromartie was with AJ stride for stride. AJ looked slow off his release and sloppy out his breaks. Schaub tried to get it to him but he just wasnt getting open or creating seperation. I think thats the key there, ... what made Andre so great was his size strength and quickness to seperate from defenders off his routes. He was man handled by Cro ..dirty.. IMO.With the way Hou is winning games, they are getting up big early and running the ball late. Thats a recipe for limited opportunities in the passing game. Add to the fact that Schaub is not that great of a passing threat inside the redzone...and Andre still has 1 redzone target to date thru 5 weeks with no history of double digit touchdowns, his upside is limited. He was drafted as a top 10 wr in most leagues. With the way HOU is playing, he will not come close to top 10. Most of Andres value comes from his yardage totals, and thats absent this year. I just think this is a new Texans team with a new identity. No longer do they need to pass every 3 out of 4 downs because they have two great running backs and a solid defense...whereas in times past that was missing.I'm not sure a lot of people factor ral life into the equation sometimes when they talk up/down players. ehhhh I dunno about that. I'd like to see the snap count of Cro on AJ? I'd bet it was in the 80%-90% range and I'm pretty sure he was defending him on all 6 of his targets but i may be wrong.Cromartie was not on AJ all night. They were moving Cro around quite a bit. Cro actually got beaten by Daniels pretty badly on the first td and was playing very soft vs Walter on two of his catches. They had opportunities to get the ball to AJ but he just didn't seem to be a major part of their gameplan.
