Asked this question last year during playoffs. In a pool where each round you pick 5 guys, add up there points, rebounds, assists. Can't use any guys more than once. Also doesn't matter if series goes 4 or 7 games.

So obviously looking for good players on teams that will lose in a lengthy series.

What you got for round 1?
This is kind of hard when looking ahead to next round but I think I'd go

Wall, Dirk, Aldridge, Paul, Griffin

Harden gets away with his third offensive foul, uncalled, of the night. Just sweeps Rondo out of the way, pushes him in the back, and then takes his layup. Amazing that only one has been called on him.

This team is so beatable. I don't understand the score right now. I really now know why so many people hate Houston.

East playoffs are actually unwatchable IMO. Not even shtick. Had that first game on today and bailed after 3 minutes. Horrible.
Bulls vs Cavs should be a good series. This might be the year Chicago gets over the LeBron hump...
Lol good luck with that.
Bulls are looking decent tonight. They need to limit turnovers and get better on defensive rotations, but this Bucks series will be a nice tune-up.

Rose looks really good so far. Even Noah is looking like Noah again. The Playoffs are here!!!
Bulls 4-1 to win East is something to look at.

Gawd I hate how Harden gets calls like that. He throws a shoulder into Dirk yet somehow he gets the call.
He's by far the worst. But the refs have been giving him that call forever. They're as guilty as he is.

Hot damn! Spurs could have been playing against Portland this first round had they won that last game. They would be in Memphis's shoes now. Instead we get to see them against the Clips next up. :/

We discussed a couple pages back when it happened. Huge to go from home court first 2 rounds to playing whole playoffs on road. I don't care how good/experienced you are.

Foul shooting has been horrible for both teams. Pop needs to employ Hack a Jordan again.

He did earlier, implement hack a Jordan. Didn't work. Hell of a game. Clips look to have a better chance than I thought! :/

Let's go Spurs!! I need a drink or 3 and the game just started!

Not yet short.... The Spurs lost their first playoff game in 2003, 2005 and 2007.They won the championship each of those seasons...
Just helping you get your bases covered. Figured you have an open spot after ditching the Heat.
It's always been 1 west and 1 east fav. I'll let you know who my east fav is now that heat have chilled out a little later in the series.. ;)

Was thinking the same exact thing with about 7ish minutes to go. Spurs had cut it to single digits. Spurs killed themselves with their own foul shooting tonight.

As I was saying...Paul Pierce at the 4, #####es! And change that filthy, erroneous thread title.
#PlayoffWittman

Best long con ever. Makes us all think he's a backwards-thinking mistake-prone coach so you don't take his team seriously and then they turn it on when they get on the road in the playoffs. Even the comeback was part of his long con, making the Raptors think they can take care of business in Game 2. And this clip? Did it on purpose for the cameras at the end of the game to distract people from his playoff genius.

Loved Casey's quote after the game.

“James (Johnson) will play in a matchup situation. Again, he could be in play later in this series. The difficult thing to do is play all of our wings. We’ve got a good rotation with Greivis (Vasquez), Kyle (Lowry), DeMar (DeRozan) and Terrence (Ross) in that group and it’s just hard to get that fifth guy in there unless it’s just a special matchup. Again, it will come into play in this series at some point but today wasn’t the day. Believe me, I heard all the people yelling, ‘Put James in, put James in,” but, again, who do you take out? We were having trouble with outside shots. DeMar was doing a good job. Lou was a threat. So, we’ll see. There’s going to be a place for James (Johnson) in this series. I’ve talked with him about that.”
Matchup situation? Like vs Pierce? A guy whom he could almost completely negate? Nah. Don't put your best defender on him.

Piss poor rebounding? Nah, don't bring in your best rebounding wing and 4th best defensive rebounder.

Not making outside shots? How about a guy who take 75% of his shots inside 10 feet, has the 2nd highest TS% on the team, makes 77%(!) within 3 feet.

Who do you take out? Well, you obviously don't want to sub in Ross'. Guy was on fire. Hans Bro? Nah, he killed it on the glass. Gotta leave him in. Sweet Lou? Gotta have that instant offence!

Wittman >>>> Casey and it isn't close.

As more details of the new TV deal come in and other revenue projections sharpen, the future salary cap figures are more than just guesses. Big thing is there won't be just one big spike when the new TV contract kicks in - there will be two spikes in back to back seasons of similar size.

Owners have been told under the current CBA, the salary cap and luxury tax projections are:

(For reference, this season the cap is $63.1MM, the with luxury tax kicking in at $76.8MM)

2016: $67.1MM, 81.6MM

2017: $89MM, $108MM

2018: $108MM, $127MM

The rest of the TV deal (runs through 2021) projects cap between $100MM-$110MM with luxury tax in the $120MM-$130MM range.

Damn. Prepare for another lockout after the 2017 season.
You think? I would be surprised if the players association doesn't push very hard to just re-up the deal they have. The AVERAGE salary going into 2018 will be in the $8-10 million range, that is a ton of money to sacrifice to claw for an extra 5% or something. Same goes for the owners. With the way franchise values have been rising and how much money they stand to make with the new TV deal, they would be shooting themselves in the foot to fight the players association.
Lockout. Not strike.

Yah. Casey not using J. Johnson really screwed me in the WIS SIM.

I get he's TO prone and erratic, but on the Raptors his highs outweigh his lows. I wonder if Urji is pounding his head, knowing he brought in JJ specifically to guard small ball 4s and Casey doesn't use him.

He is by no means perfect. He has no jump shot whatsoever and yeah, he does turn it over a fair bit and get a little wild. But you can live with that stuff because of everything else he brings; the post game, driving, cutting, defence, rebounding, shot blocking, etc.

Pat Riley on the draft: "No more smiling faces with hidden agendas, so we'll be going in clean."
A little surprised to see a supposed NBA guru who always thinks several moves ahead admit he got worked by the same bumbling twentysomething responsible for one of the great PR mistakes in sports history. But I suppose you gotta do something to deflect blame for finishing tenth in the East with a mostly healthy Dwyane Wade and half a season of Chris Bosh.

Is he refrencing James?

Pretty obvious, no? He doesn't name him, but ...

Yah it was, I was just curious if something else happened that I didn't know about.

Not a good look for Pat. Sour grapes. I'm sure it has a lot to do with trading up for Napier to appease LeBron-- only to see James bolt. You're the GM and you're job to make the pick. Get over it and move on.

Can't blame Pat for feeling some heat (no pun intended). He had a veteran team just finish 10th in a terrible East overall. And as you alluded things really couldnt have been expected to go a lot better player wise -- they got the gift of a DPOY candidate & possible All Star in East (had he played full season) in Whiteside. Bosh was obviously a huge loss, but they were still sub .500 team with him. Wade played as many games as anyone could expect. Played at high level when he did play.

Plus they narrowly got to keep their pick. What's he crying about? Not getting the gate at the 2 home games they would have lost?

LeBatard keeps saying how pissed Riley is at James every time this comes up. Arison is the only magnanimous one in the organization.

I am sort of shocked that Riley is still pissed off enough at it that he's willing to admit he got duped.

One good thing about the NBA is when they make a stupid mistake, they correct it. After having the best matchup of the first round by far tip off at a time that made it basically unwatchable for most of the country last week, they adjusted the Sunday schedule for week 2. The games start at 1 and end around 11:30 PM this Sunday, and Spurs-Clips is the 3:30 ABC game.

And now I just noticed that they do the 3 PM-1 AM thing on Saturday instead so this is probably just driven by geography. Oh well. At least it's just Memphis-Portland.

Seems like the Pelicans should figure out how to get Davis the ball a bit deeper in the post. He's got great agility and handles for a guy his height, but it's still asking a lot of him to initiate offense from 20 feet out so often. There were multiple times he had guys 5 to 6 inches shorter than him covering him whom they could have really punished if he was getting the ball closer to the basket.

Does their name rhyme with "Bavaliers"?

Monty Williams leaves a lot to be desired as a coach IMO. I say let Davis go full superstar and feed him underneath. The mediocrity at guard really shows up in the playoffs also, at least in running the floor.

Draymond did a great job of pushing Davis out as far as he could during the post up attempts. If Davis went deeper in the post Draymond likely fronts him since he's shorter. Also anytime Asik is in Bogut basically ignores him and plays a zone so I don't think the Pelicans had many options other than getting Davis the ball out far.

Draymond played great last night and made Davis work hard in the 4th. Monty not giving Davis any rest really showed during the 4th as he looked out of gas. Davis is scary good, such a beast.

Um, no.

Spurs would've had the 2-seed had they won, and a first-round matchup with Dallas.

I haven't watched a ton of the Pelicans this year, but last night down the stretch all they did was iso Davis or Tyreke starting from 18-20 feet out. It was terrible offense.
