It would be so awesome if Jordan had done an episode of Cribs (if that's still a thing) and Cuban was poring over the tape to figure out where the house is.

@WojYahooNBA: Yahoo Source: Clippers, DeAndre Jordan meeting was short. It was clear he was returning to them. Then they started to play cards.

30 out of 30 NBA franchises would do this if they wanted/needed to.

The point is that a better run franchise wouldn't be in this position.
What did they do incorrectly....DJ reached out to them.
They created an environment that made Dallas seem like a better option in the first place. Whatever made Jordan change his mind today could have been addressed at the start of the FA period avoiding this whole mess. Dallas wasn't offering more money so there must have been other reasons he was willing to leave the Clippers.

Like a shady agent?

If Cuban were smart he would pull the offer with some snarky "we only want players who are committed to helping us win another title. We wish Deandre luck helping the Clippers try to win their first!" Tweet

In all seriousness there is no way he signs a deal at 12:01 without his agent or attorney reading it right? I thought I read somewhere his agent wasn't at the house.

I forgot about that part of the circus. That does explain some things.

Balmer will lower the ladder to the treehouse when they need the agent.

I'm sure Mark Cuban has never screwed anybody over in a business decision so this is totally uncool.
We're going to find out Robert Herjavec or Kevin O'Leary has bought a minority stake in LAC and this is their revenge against Cuban for all the ####-waving he does on Shark Tank.

Because no team has ever lost out to their own player signing elsewhere.

No Wilbon, you are wrong. The moratorium is what made this week and tonight so awesome and the league should be sending out thank-yous for making the NBA the lead story on SportsCenter tonight.

LOL, I don't believe the shady agent thing at all. Agent is probably falling on the sword to help DJ not look too bad. Pretty sure DJ would have a hand in making the deal with Dallas and announcing it. He started to get cold feet right before he had to sign the actual deal, the Clippers found out and put the full court press on him to get him back. The shady agent story that he had a deal with Cuban set after screwing him on Howard sound silly. Why would any agent feel bad enough about another client's decision in the past that he would screw over another client. DJ was getting a max deal, agent was getting paid the same regardless, just let him sign where he wants.

Shady agent or not, you have to be master of your own ship. It's a chance to win a ring, where you're going to spend a good chunk of your prime, it's not a decision to be taken lightly. The Clippers are literally the ISIS of professional sports but you can't fault them for grabbing at any lifeline when it's the difference between being a contender in the West (I mean, let's see how this Austin Rivers free agent saga plays out first before we jump to any conclusions) and a fringe playoff team, at least until the next FA class, and even then there will be way more max slots than "max players."

If you need to take some more time, then do it. Think it through. And I realize that Jordan is slow and likely stoned out of his gourd during most of his waking hours, but this is absurd. And not even answering Cuban's calls or meeting with him is some childish bull####. Be wishy-washy, but at least be a man about it. And don't let yourself be kidnapped for Christ's sake. #hottake

Eric Freeman has a piece up on Ball Don't Lie about a similar situation to the DeAndre Jordan saga many years ago. After the 1999 lockout, Antonio McDyess had a verbal agreement to sign with DEN but was having last-minute doubts about leaving PHX. PHX PG Jason Kidd chartered a plane to Denver and grabbed a few teammates to fully in and talk McDyess out of signing with DEN. When they got to town, McDyess was at an Avalanche game in the owners' suite, and the DEN ownership made sure Kidd and his entourage wouldn't be let into the arena. McDyess signed with DEN.

Supposedly Dan Fegan's friendship with Cuban is well known. Steering DJ toward the Mav's isn't really screwing him.

Ultimate diabolical plan by DJ and Clips if you think about it. Slow play Cuban and the Mavs...let them think they have you signed. Don't make other moves with that cap room. Pull the rug out from under them last minute. Return to the Clips for more money. Weaken opponent in process.

@ramonashelburne: Clipper player who spoke to DJ, but was not at the mtg, said DJ felt his agent had pushed him to Dallas and he changed his mind over wknd

That's ridiculous. For starters, the agent may have been asked his opinion and offered it. It is perfectly reasonable to think an agent would suggest Dallas as a better situation for the player than LA.

Second, Jordan isn't in 5th grade. He's a grown man and should be able to weigh the input of people without being incapable of adding his own thoughts. Next we are going to hear that Jordan felt chandler parsons was giving him a biased view as well and that made him feel really blue.

If you had asked before FA started what player might do something this bushleague i would have guessed DJ b/c he airballs freethrows and most the time looks like he might actually shoot right handed.

There is a corrlation there somewhere.

Not a Mavs fan (Sixers still have a team, right?) but this is terrible business for these to all be verbal agreements for stuff like this to occasionally happen.

Wonder if CP is going to start giving high fives to DJ now.

The shady agent angle is weak.
It's the equivalent of the old-school my cousin borrowed my gym bad and must have left an ounce of blow in it...he's making a huge life-decision and had a change of heart...very understandable...just be man enough to take ownership for it...
