The shady agent angle is weak.
It's the equivalent of the old-school my cousin borrowed my gym bad and must have left an ounce of blow in it...he's making a huge life-decision and had a change of heart...very understandable...just be man enough to take ownership for it...
Exactly.

I don't think he's a scumbag, as someone charged earlier. Though wussing out and not talking to Cuban is not a good look.

Ultimately, all the responsibility lies with the player.

As a hater of all things Los Angeles, I'm sad to see DJ back with the Clippers, as a Celtic fan, I'm loving the fact he stuck it to Dallas.

Only guy I feel bad for is Dirk. He's going to be stuck on a crappy team for the rest of his career.
I don't see how people can hate on LeBron for what he did to Cavs fans with The Decision and then not hate on DJ for what he did to Mavs fans here. Isn't this way worse? Granted, what LeBron did really wasn't that bad, so not hating on either of them is a reasonable position. But if you think LeBron acted like a dooshbag I don't see how you avoid thinking that DJ acted like a way bigger dooshbag.

Would be real nice if they ended up in the 8-10 range for the draft...would probably be a lot better draft position than the C's thought they were going to get when the deal went down...now hoping the Nets deal Johnson so they get worse and that pick gets into high lottery-land...

Everyone one acted like dooshbags and as an NBA fan without a dog in the fight, I enjoyed every second of it.

I also don't feel that sorry for the Mavs fans...Cuban's been on the edge of what's allowable in FA for awhile now. Having this type of relationship with DJ's agent (forgetting DJ should be his own man) just proves it.

Also I'd definitely add Wes Matthews to the list of people to feel bad for here. Maybe Roy Hibbert, who is now stuck putting up with an ###hole aging former superstar on a bad team when he could have been playing with a really fun aging former superstar on a .500 team.

Oh definitely. It was glorious. Best NBA day without an actual NBA game in memory.

Eric Freeman has a piece up on Ball Don't Lie about a similar situation to the DeAndre Jordan saga many years ago. After the 1999 lockout, Antonio McDyess had a verbal agreement to sign with DEN but was having last-minute doubts about leaving PHX. PHX PG Jason Kidd chartered a plane to Denver and grabbed a few teammates to fully in and talk McDyess out of signing with DEN. When they got to town, McDyess was at an Avalanche game in the owners' suite, and the DEN ownership made sure Kidd and his entourage wouldn't be let into the arena. McDyess signed with DEN.
I posted this yesterday, but I'm guessing it got lost in the emoji war (what wouldn't)

I don't really see them as being similar...Jordan just seems like a case of idiocy/bad decision-making...for LeBron (at least this is how I feel) I really didn't have an issue of him leaving Cleveland...he was a free agent and earned that right...it was the whole production he was involved in that went along with it...just too much "hey, look at me I'm the King of the basketball world" nonsense that just looked classless and self-centered...

I really hope the Mavs go say to Wes that they understand if he wants to sign elsewhere.

Honestly, I'm happy for Jordan to do what is going to make him happiest. I've got a pretty strong belief that people should be making choices based on what is going to make their life better.

I also really hate when somebody breaks their word though. Two ideals I hold strongly are in a direct conflict here and it sucks.

Bottom line: he shouldn't have committed to anyone if he wasn't sure, and there's nothing we can do about it now. All this stuff about hacking him the entire game the first time they play Dallas is sort of ridiculous. For as much crap as people give Cuban, the organization as a whole tends to be really classy.

I'm sure Dirk will take it in stride. Somebody tweeted last night, and I'll paraphrase here, that all this has done is serve to remind us how incredibly lucky Dallas has been to have a guy like Dirk for his entire career. Just an incredible human being, on top of and beside what he's done on the court. Someone who truly is a role model to be followed.

DJ is a huge doosh. There's no question about that.

Almost as soon as I typed that:

Cuban tells Matthews he'd understand if he signs elsewhere, no hard feelings.

Wes Matthews may be the most aggrieved person here because he took less money to play with the Mavs after he found out Jordan was signing there.

That was such a crazy offseason. The lockout pushed the free agency frenzy back to January and brought in an entirely new salary structure. Michael Jordan retired again so the Bulls broke up and left the top of the league wide open, giving a lot of teams a lot of incentive to make big moves. And then we discovered how many professional basketball players were capable of spending large amounts of unsupervised time smoking weed and not working out.

Also liked comparing contract notes from then and now. The new CBA after the 1998 lockout introduced max contract lengths and salaries. The article you linked cited $86MM over 7 years as the max deal for free agents with less than 10 years in the league. We're going to see a lot of 4- and 5-year deals this week for more than $86MM.

@mcuban: .@Chris_Broussard that's is the dumbest #### Ive ever heard. If you had any ethics u would msg me and I will give u his address

:pickle:

I said this in the draft thread...there was nothing more "Broussard" than when he appeared on ESPN with the Knicks on the clock saying they were coming out of this with either Mudiay at 4 or Kaminsky in a trade down.

Have no idea how he deserves that job.

If you had asked before FA started what player might do something this bushleague i would have guessed DJ b/c he airballs freethrows and most the time looks like he might actually shoot right handed.

There is a corrlation there somewhere.

Not a Mavs fan (Sixers still have a team, right?) but this is terrible business for these to all be verbal agreements for stuff like this to occasionally happen.

Wonder if CP is going to start giving high fives to DJ now.
Front to front hugs, imo.

Broussard is the worst.
It's become pretty obvious that he regularly just makes stuff up.

But he is on TV with ESPN so a lot of people will continue to take his "reports" seriously.

I DEMAND TO SEE DeANDRE'S (or Fegen's) TEXT'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fegen and Cuban are so tight, there's no way Fegen doesn't give Cuban the address if asked.
