Brit> Today is the birthday of the best guard of the 1990s, Gary Payton. Happy Payton's Birthday to you.
My Son said "I played D like The Glove today dad" when I asked him how he played at basketball camp. We got him a Basketball encyclopedia type book recently, learning himself some hoops history. Also told me George Mikan was the first player inducted into the NBA HOF :nerd:

Dudley terrific on Lowe Post.

As Simmons would say, a guy i'd like to buy stock in. Either in the studio/booth or coaching. His career just starting.

Freaking filthy numbers over 17 years and the guy is consistently left off all time greatest lists.

Yeah, hard to believe Duncan was left off the NBA 50th Anniversary Team, even when considering he was still in college when the list was compiled.

I would put Ray Allen over a lot of guys on that list.

Probably didn't consider Ray Allen, Dwyane Wade, Paul Pierce, Steve Nash, or Chris Paul closely enough when I posted my list.

If Durant never played another game, IMO he wouldn't retire a Top 50 player. However, any reasonable projection of the rest of his career has him headed to the HOF and Top 50.

If I had to pick one player 25 years old or younger who would someday be considered a Top 50 all-time player, it would be Anthony Davis.

Howard, Parker, and Curry have no place in the top 50 conversation, IMO.

Pierce certainly does. And Nash is definitely in there now. Wade probably as well. Iverson as "first man out@ for me.

Maybe Iverson isn't top 50 strictly by his play but he did it while being under 6 feet tall and was as popular as anybody since Jordan. He changed the NBA and the way it was perceived, both for good and bad, more than anybody in the 90s and 00s.

no way on pierce no way on paul no way on tony parker yes on curry eventually yes on durant eventually and tim duncan should always in the top five discussion period take that to the bank bromigos

Ray Allen is hard to rank, because on the one hand, he is the greatest 3-point shooter in the history of the league. but on the other hand, he was rarely one of the top players (only made All-NBA twice: one second team, one third). Granted, he made 10 All-Star games, but did you ever really watch Ray Allen and think, "That is one of the absolute best players in the league?"

Definitely in:

Duncan

James

Garnett

Bryant

Nowitzki

Wade

Payton

Nash

Kidd

Paul

Fringe: Pierce, Howard, Iverson, Durant, Allen, Billups, Miller, and probably a few others

No way AI gets left off the top 50. He broke in when legends still roamed and played harder and faster than everyone for an 8 year period. He left he game a broken down mess at the end but his time in the league was amazing.

I agree on pulling all but Unseld off the list. He was mostly a rebounder, but was a league MVP and a finals MVP in separate seasons. Anybody that reaches the pinnacle both as an individual and as the lead man on the team is greater than guys who just compiled stats through longevity. However, I am not who to exclude off of the adds list. Maybe pull off another guy. Maybe Sam Jones, Hal Greer or Nate Thurmond? None of them ever dominated the league and were more like great role players. Especially Jones, considering he benefitted a great deal from being on a great team.

League MVP once and took a cast of nobodies to the Finals. I think AI is definitely a top 50 all timer.

I have trouble putting Pierce in top 50 and Paul isn't worthy either. Both great players, but just not dominate enough to be ranked that highly. I feel the same about Ray Allen.

Scottie pippen has no business being on the top 50 list2Name 50 who were greater.
Yup. One of the more underrated players in history
Such an interesting player. If we took the top 50 players of all-time and drafted 10 teams of five. I think he goes like 25.

You will get a hall of fame offensive player at pick 50 but Pippen's impact defensively is underrated when we are squaring off the best of the best. Pippen over Wade no doubt.

If I'm taking a player to build my franchise around right now in the NBA I take Wade over Pippen.

Almost everything about the Philadelphia 76ers has been embarrassing over the past two seasons, so why shouldn’t the TV ratings fall under that umbrella, too?

According to a recent Inquirer report, the Sixers averaged only 23,000 viewers during their miserable 18-win season in 2014-15. Keep in mind Philadelphia is the nation’s fourth-largest market with roughly 2.96 million homes featuring TV sets.

“Those numbers are embarrassing,” former CBS Sports president turned media consultant Neal Pilson told the Inquirer’s Bob Fernandez, “no question about it.”
23,000? :lmao:

Four time all NBA and a finals MVP. Basically 25/6/5 at the height of his powers. I agree it's close, but if he's on the outside looking in it isn't by much.

There will never be a top-50 list again so I don't know why we are discussing it. Top-75 is a possibility in a few years.
