Titans 2018 (1 Viewer)

Also, everyone that reports on the Titans has pics of the seats being replaced at the stadium...so far all you fans that attend games, there's more from Underwood

I found this surprising

Question: Do you believe that Quinton Spain will have a chance to start next year?

Jim: I think he’ll be in the mix, at both guard and right tackle. But he’s going to have a lot of competition. At this point, I wouldn’t bet on him being a starter, but the guy is talented and I thought he played well last year before getting injured.

Who on the line can you say "played well last year" besides Spain in limited time? I surely don't agree with RT stuff, from what I've seen he doesn't have the feet.

My focus is so much on letting Warmack go and sick of his up N down play and then replacing him. I guess if they were a quality team, Spain could be quality depth.

I'm real skeptical here.

My guess is if they spend a pick or FA to replace him, he's gonna beat that guy out. My thoughts are "got this position, move onto the next" because they're so deficient but...all in all anything added toward the OL I guess is a good thing

Like Wyatt said in AskJim, some players need to wow them at the Combine to help the Titans trade down possibilities.

I saw someone said If Bosa was drafted by the Titans he'd be the best in their front seven day one. RRrrreally? That's the kind of stuff that needs to happen to increase the value of the top pick. Fall in love with Tunsil, think Goff is the 2nd coming of someone...whatever it is just might be worth some more picks "thrown in" and mean everything during a rebuild.

Not sure trade down is the greatest move. I'd say the Titans biggest need is a left tackle. Why not take Tunsil?

CLE and DAL need a QB, so they'd take Goff/Wench. What does SD need? Not QB given their extension of Rivers. Jax doesn't need a QB either, so maybe BAL would move up for one? If the Titans drop down to 6, both QBs Tunsil and likely Bosa would be gone. Why would BAL not trade to 3 instead? I suppose if they were in love with the same guy as CLE that wouldn't work but Flacco still has 3 years left on his contract. Would DAL want to control their own fate and move up to 1?

I have a hard time seeing these scenarios play out. I get that the Titans would get a kings ransom for the pick and that there are a lot of positions to use , but no one has two first rounders this year so it will push the rebuilding down to next year I suppose. Which is more attractive to a new owner, a team with a franchise QB and LT or a team with a franchise QB and multiple 1st round picks in the future?

The worst reality they have with Tunsil is that if they sign a free agent RT, they showed their hand.

There's a lot of disagreement with whether you draft a rook or add a veteran. You've got the usual rookie struggle but 10 years of stellar play or immediate help.

Very few have said anything like they've gotta win now because this staff only has a year. That'll come but that's probably in Tunsil's favor for now.

Spoiled by their bookends for 8-9 years, I think the temptation for Tunsil is very high and that the rest of the NFL sees it as a huge possibility so if you want that one you had better give up a lot. Again though, if they sign a veteran RT that all goes away.

Oher and Bell were signed late. I don't want that level of free agent T and I think everyone agrees so it seems like we'll have to see if they sign a free agent RT.

There's very little talk about the Titans and the 2nd best T in the draft. I find that interesting too. If this were FF the other Ts seem to be on a different tier. I guess there's another possibility that one of them knocks it out of the park on their pro day and combine and becomes on the same tier as Tunsil. Then ya gotta re-think the whole trade down and/or sign a free agent T thing.

Eric Berry and "a back" from KC fits very nicely in my FF but never happens in the NFL type thinking.

The second Griff was gone many seemed to want Berry (who is expected to be franchised) .

Glennon listed McCluster as potential cut.

I wouldn't see that coming. I think he found his niche as 3rd down back and then his ability as fill-in back, WR, and returner makes him a nice roster fit too.

I think anyone that went to 'Belichick University' values guys that can play multiple positions.

If they keep McCluster and get Forte they would have the oldest RB tandem in the league. After spending picks on Sankey, Cobb and Fowler...

BB likes his Rutgers guys (or he used to when Schiano was around?) so with Robinson on board I started looking at some college guys. Leonte Carroo is interesting.

With Kendall Wright I see no need, with McBride, with Douglas...he seems very quick and a short Mason-ish 6 foot; like he knows how tall he is and makes it work.

I almost didn't bother but guess I felt I had to or was intrigued or somesuch.

I like how he uses the sideline, like him doubled and he still gets open. The thing that jumps out at me is the endzone catches. There's a lot of defenders there and he is running right where he needs to be, very disciplined and not quitting type focus. Love that. The snap n throws the quick slants it's very Edelman like. Does not look like the fastest guy or most athletic but geesh did he get to his spot quick.

Something very unglamorous yet efficient about this guy. I'm gonna watch again in a few weeks. Usually college guys dominate and he didn't. He's just a 3rd round prospect but I feel like I'm too favorable here.

Anywho, I will not be surprised if he's a Pat or a bpa pick for the Titans at some point 4th 5th or somesuch. There's a bunch on youtube if you're curious

NFL teams with new staffs get extra practice time.

As per PK, the Titans were not awarded this since Mularkey was an interim coach

What's the story on Sankey, just doesn't have what it takes?  What a waste of a pick, should have grabbed Carlos Hyde there.

#Titans GM on trading No. 1 pick promises fans he'll be as vague as possible and be "a lot of smoke screens" about picking or trading.

***************

I like the honesty there

"Mike Martin and Ropati Pitoitua combined to be active 11 times and play 82 snaps (Martin 51 snaps in 5 games, 20 of those in Week 1 blowout; Pitoitua 31 snaps in 5 games) "

http://www.fanly.me/c/xk5w9jdcFE

See that is where Mularkey and Robinson are going to have a problem. I pointed it out with a number of offensive players last year-regardless of Mularkey or Whis.

Either use the guy or don't. If you want Robinson to get you the best players working the WW and all, ya can't be tying up roster spots like this.

They were regularly short a WR and a back, and a CB. For what? So these guys could play 4 snaps?

Stevens was re-signed. I'm a huge fan of his so obviously I'm pleased.

Robinson plans to go one by one through the players with cuts and re-signing. That seems oddly orderly and different. I think March 4th is the FA deadline or March 9th? so roughly 2 weeks for he (and Mularkey?) to make decisions.

I've been told he and Mularkey have sat down with 4 players and the meeting are averaging an hour each. Griff, Stevens and..wouldn't give up the other two.

Of course I'm curious what's discussed. Griff said Robinson went over some film didn't give much more detail. Why on a player you'll cut? Only thing I can imagine is to be clear as to why and shoot someone straight.

Sounds very calculated, very decent of him.

Some meet the Titans night took place with season ticket holders. PK mentioned that several fans were going to give up their season tickets but this changed their mind.

The whole "Amy Adams Strunk, these fans need to meet me" series of tweets..

I am downright fascinated. I didn't wholly think fans cared who the owner was, per se, but somewhere in here she IS making an impression. No doubt meeting current and former Titans is fun for any fan but people are saying positive things about her.

**********

On another note, maybe not related, maybe so (ulterior motive?)...she still hasn't bought a home in TEN and one reporter I spoke to said she has made it clear she won't.

So Bosa has dropped. Pre-combine, it looks like Kiper said it first and other draft guru types claimed they were going to and...not sure about claiming credit there. Anyhow, he's now considered top 5 but not top 2.

Kiper is in the news a lot today because he had a press call but this is usually how it starts. From here the other draft guys agree or disagree, the combine reaffirms or changes their opinions and...yeah that conference call is like firing a gun at the start of a race. It has begun...

T Stanley is getting a bunch of press lately by Titans guys. It seems clear he and Ramsey are the trade down a few spots type targets and the top C and DL are the trade further down targets.

Titans seem like the only team (that could draft him) that has any interest in him playing Safety which I'm taking to mean Lebeau's Polamalu-ish role.

No RB seems to have fascinated them, I still think that's curious and the draft is not where they add a RB if they do.

The Mularkey and Robinson quotes from the meeting with fans totally indicate an extreme focus on improving the lines.

Robinson called Warmack a piece(to the puzzle, a compliment) but when he spoke of what the line has and needs moving forward, Lewan was the only lineman he mentioned. Consistency is a word 'everyone' has been using and that would be a brutal type knock on Warmack.

Spain was not mentioned by Robinson. Mularkey said he wants to win fights along the line and have people feel like they were in a fight when they visit Ten etc. He did say Spain would certainly be a fighter and mentioned his mean streak.

Delanie was the first to say but a lot of people seem to say the same- Titans should focus on adding veteran OL and not fill up on rooks.

So a lot has transpired that pretty much just means the Titans think like the fans do. A bad team, many suggested changes seem obvious I guess.

Also really concerning is the lack of Poutasi news. A 21 year old former 3rd round pick T as we head into a draft and they discuss drafting Ts and...zippo on Poutasi. I would definitely put him down as trade bait and at 21 if he was rated well by another team, I do figure he has similar 3rd round value. That's somewhat low for young tackles so I could see them almost getting that pick back.

Some other things-

Wyatt lllloves Sterling Shepard. If I had to guess, HE would draft him over Treadwell. He's a reporter in the facility not someone that drafts but this is the first spring he's there so I'm jumping on any tidbits to see if he's laying hints.

On the radio, Lewan has been discussed. There's some debate as to sacks allowed with him. You might recall Poutasi was given a few sacks allowed in the Texans game when really it was the LGs (three that game) and Lewan. As a result some sites list different stats for his sacks allowed. It is probably 8. He allowed six his rookie year. Neither is a bad stat for a first or second year guy on a good team. Every other game the youngster allows a sack...that'd be fine, for now. There IS a dramatic difference between 6 and 8. I don't know why but always has been. Roos for example allowed 4-6 and was excellent while Lewan allows 6-8 and is questionable.

Penalties are noteworthy with Lewan. Also when teams knows a run is coming, if they put two guys to bust thru Lewan, he gets neither. He misses the FB too. He should pick one and nail him with the FB picking up the other. Instead he whiffs on two. He did look totally fine one on one against anyone in the run game. On the games I watched recently, Fasano accomplishes nothing and kinda leaves Lewan hanging. If he is there and there's two defenders, he ought to do something rather than Lewan versus two. Instead he has this bad move that looks like he high fives a DL shoulder. If it's 'hit the guy, then go on your route' then hit him, don't high five...what is that.

Spain was far and away the best lineman last year. He only allowed a half sack when both he and Lewan left a DL thinking the other had him. Only allowing a half sack in six starts is nice.

Back to the radio and call- Stanley would play RT for a year, then the best of he and Lewan settle into the LT spot. Supposedly he has some issues that experience would fix quickly but til that experience the Ts would be rated Tunsil, Lewan, Stanley.

A lot of yeah that's what I expected you to say type stuff today. I couldn't hear the guy's name on the radio but I thought he made a wise point.

Wright makes 7 mil. in 2016.

If they draft a WR, Wright then knows if he wants to stay they have someone and aren't about to break the bank. After last two years, addition of Douglas, Wright could be concerned the new guy could take a significant # of reps and hurt his market value too.

It was a nice explanation how good teams don't (always) let players handcuff them to a big deal but keep free agents at reasonable rates. I don't know if it'll work but it certainly is non-Titan like and refreshing to discuss something different.

Later, Mularkey said McBride made a few good snaps, still have good expectations. He backed up Wright. This lends to that too.

'We'd like to have ya, but we can move on without you' is a totally different stance to take and puts a different vibe on the agent trying to get his player all he can.

Not exactly breaking news since Tunsil is widely regarded as best T in the draft but in case anyone had any doubt check out this Mularkey interview from yesterday on Total Access, around the 2:35 mark when asked about protecting Mariotta he starts off by saying "he"  in reference to Tunsil before catching himself. I felt like he and Mooch both caught the slip up which is why they shared a chuckle: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-total-access/0ap3000000638289/Mike-Mularkey-on-No-1-pick-It-won-t-be-a-quarterback

Yesterday Kuharsky said Spain was not the answer at LG. Others have said similar.

IMO Allowing a half sack in six games and being called a mean blocker, has a mean streak etc. is fine. There's too many holes to fill.

The combine meat market and him not stacking up, which made him a UDFA last year, shouldn't 'hurt' the guy again this year. Unlike every G at the combine, he's had some success in the NFL.

Statistically, they can't want more/better production. I think what they want is better feet and a G able to run more. I'd rather they put that in the someday category and 'settle' for now.

Warmack can allow zero sacks and pressures one week and seem like he allowed 5 sacks and 50 pressures the next. I'd rather focus there.

As I understand it Warmack gets them a third round compensatory pick when he leaves in 2017. If they cut him, they get nothing. So they'd have to trade him or he'll be there in 2016. Fine but how about not gifting him the job? Make him work for a change and earn it?

I still like Matias. Many reporters seem to like Poehls a G/T project that I think is entering his last year of PS eligibility. Doing well with the 2nd team last summer got Matias on the PS but never a chance to play. I disagreed but regardless, there's a backup. NFL backups play well in 2nd team offenses. That's what they do.

I still think Poutasi is expendable(PK disagreed). See if they draft or sign a G- they have Spain and new guy with Warmack as a backup. That's it for active game day. There's no way Poutasi can stay on PS without being pickup up by others.

Titans are the Browns now. Many teams judge them as handling this or that poorly and making bad decisions. Poutasi is 21 and was a 3rd round T. I have no idea what GMs think but ya don't let a 21 (22 at season I guess) yr old 3rd rounder sit on a PS. You sign him and see what he's got, if your OL coach can 'fix him' etc. We're talking NFL minimum so moves are very fluid.

Titans have had two backup Ts end of camp. One active most weeks and one to the PS. It seems obvious they are drafting or signing one. The common thought is Bell is welcome back as a backup. If Poutasi can't play T then he isn't the backup. That decision was made right? They can't NOT have a backup T to keep Poutasi at G.

Numbers-wise I think they're going to dig a hole if they don't move Poutasi. By the time the season comes, he won't be in their plans.

I like everything I read about him. Work ethic, demeanor, all sorts were positive. I suppose I left out the possibility of him coming to camp in awesome shape ready to rock having learned from 2015. Warmack is a top talent, if not producer. I would like nothing more than to read Poutasi is doing so well he beat him out. Still though, they won't get a third if they cut Warmack. If Poutasi is worth a 4th or 5th compensatory pick, they won't get that the year after if they cut him.

My biggest issue is this. I read more about Poutasi than any other linemen. If you look back at pics, coaches are with him more than any player(in pics). There was this rush to get him ready to start at RT and then to have him capable at LG. All of that attention, why does Mularkey not know if he'll pan out? You spent that much time and focus on him, make a call.

It's also part of development. Is Poutasi worth their time. Spain seems to be. Lewan is. Maybe they have a backup C that is. Only so much time in the day. If Poutasi is getting a lot of attention, others aren't. If they have new C and T, maybe new RG. Those three are the focus. Lewan, getting him back to playing like his rookie year, will be too. I can't even imagine them being able to devote enough time to Poutasi.

Very long winded but this is why I think they trade Poutasi soon

This WR with first round talent 7th round character http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2016/02/duke_williams_1st-round_talent.html

Gotta say that was considerable. Owning up to mistakes, discussing change, taking the 'beating' from reporters, about to withstand the nitpicking of teams that'll call him a screw-up. Day one, he does actually look like a guy that will turn it around. Calling himself first round talent seventh round character is brutally honest. Saying immaturity and poor decision making, let his coach and team down, having publicly apologized to them twice now.

I think that shows he's sorry. He's in the right place mentally.

My first 'show me' or 'prove it' thought would be to see his physique and the guy is in great shape. He had no team to workout with, doing that on his own...that's something.

As long as he continues with the attitude he presented, I would totally chance it and take him in the 7th.

As this overview states http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/2131681/dhaquille-williams top WR (by several) this summer. We saw last year some UDFAs make more than 7th rounders so even money-wise it makes sense. And that'll be 'punch in the gut' two for him as he watches the studs get paid first round $ and he gets scraps for pay.

I'd be interested in hearing from Auburn fans. The jackal in the linked trouble making articles sounds nothing like the guy yesterday.

Oregon WR Bralon Addison- college RB and WR (14th ranked WR, 3-4th round projection)

Texas 5a state champion QB who also punted very well

Return man at each level

Mularkey had some success with Kordell and some mild trickery

Pats always seem to prefer drafting guys that can fill more than one role, I assume Robinson is of same thinking.

Didn't play with Mariota much, if at all, despite Oregon presence, due to torn ACL.

Stat wise, very effective catch N run guy( reads similar to younger Wright) 4-5 yard catch with 5-6 YAC.

Zierlein (IIRC) said he didn't plant the foot to make a move confidently in 2015 and insinuated he could be better with more confidence in the knee in 2016.

Thoughts on this guy for the Titans?

I have watched every game Addison has played at Oregon.  He played with Mariota in 2012 and 2013.  He had  great year in 2013 as a true sophomore and then blew out his need in spring camp the next year.  He really could have helped Oregon against OSU.    He could have returned to Oregon next year but decided to declare.  He is a talented receiver but he does have a smaller frame.  He did very well as a punt returner.

I would be surprised if he puts up great numbers in the NFL, but I hope I am proven wrong.

jedimindtricks said:
I see Addison as a De'Anthony Thomas kind of player.
I read that fairly often.

I don't wholly get it. The school and ability, I totally do, but Thomas isn't productive. Why would any team imitate that?

He's McCluster II and IMO McCluster finally looked comfy and like a nice player late in the season in his 3rd down role.

I am a very big fan of Thomas' talent but he's got 150 yds rushing and 300 receiving in two years.

Maybe gimmicky stuff isn't good?

Randall Cobb had that ability entering the league and has focused on WR.

I want to see this guy punt and throw some passes at his pro day. I am not a fan of the NFL dismissing the coffin corner as a lost art. I do love Kern. The short field punts though- I'd like to see some trickery. I do remember Randall punting-that was probably the only time in NFL history a 35 yard punt was downed. It's hard for a D to be up for the trickery and set up well for a return. Not to use a roster spot on a second punter but if he's on the team already.

My expectations coming out of college for DeAnthony Thomas were a lot higher than Addison.  DAT hasn't been always healthy for the Chiefs but has shown he can produce when they give him the opportunity.

Oh and I never once saw Addison punt at Oregon.  God knows we could have used a good punter as our punter was horrible.  He did throw a few touchdown passes on reverses though.  Good athlete.

I don't think he did. The article I read was that he averaged 38 his senior year in HS. That's enough to have me curious. I asked a friend that's totally into Texas HS football and he said probably 35 then that sounds generous. Still...I wanna see it.

And this type "extra value" is what I hope the Titans gain from Robinson as GM. BB has often had useful guys that can play another position. I guess he has to be good enough as a WR and then anything else is gravy.

FWIW I would have no prob with the Titans trading for Thomas and making him a RB.

Not really sure I ant to draft a player on the basis of what he did in HS, even if it is for versatility.

Nah just that he would need to be a WR first (I guess too light for RB, stats are fine) and anything extra he could do would be gravy

One of the Baltimore writers pointing out Aiken is worth a 2nd round tender sent me looking at RFAs.

Why not build a team this way? All rookies offer some uncertainty that they'll produce meanwhile there's a list of players you could cherry-pick from that have produced.

Trade their 2nd with Rams for their two 2nds, give up one for Aiken?

I don't know the linemen on there, but 3rd and later it really might be better to get a veteran.

I'd be leery of giving up the top pick in a round but with any trade down, this feels like a safe wheel N deal way to build

Interesting, but obviously difficult to do except on draft day. TEN picks second in round 2

Of course! when the Titans sign a CB it's one that was rated excellent and the worst

"Secret superstar" here https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/05/29/secret-superstar-brice-mccain-cb-houston-texans/

and then

Being rated as the worst cornerback in the NFL by Pro Football Focus. To be sure, the Steelers only inked McCain to a 1 year veteran minimum deal. And it is safe to say that the Steelers never projected McCain as even a number three corner, let alone a starter. Yet that is just what happened.

Titans can carry over 20 mil from 2015. They need to decide and present to league. https://www.nflpa.com/news/all-news/2016-nfl-clubs-unused-salary-cap-carryover-amounts-announced

Have to spend 95% over 4 year period.

I can only pretend to totally understand above.

The way I understand it, the new CBA tried to force teams to spend enough to be relatively near the cap. I remember old Vikes not spending. This was done to combat cheap owners, create a proper expected market, and assure fans somewhat.

I think 95% would leave 9-12 mil left hanging around each year. Jags and Titans are nowhere near with 20 mil range regularly left unsigned.

I am very uncertain of this and very unsure which four years even.

My math dictates Titans and Jags need to spend almost up to the cap this year and next. I could really use some help with this though.

The four year cycle ends after this year.

Important:  The cycle ends at the end of the league year.  Meaning:  Any re-signings next February, any up front cash,  will count toward the 4 year cycle, even though they are for deals for 2017.

Jags GM just had an interesting comment, I'll dig up the link.

Basically said that he's been reading a lot about the cap floor, it was all wrong, and no one will have an issue reaching it.

Antonio Andrews signed his one year tender and PK got his jab in.

Something like if he's on the team in fall, they are in trouble.

Andrews mouthed off on twitter in college years ago, then produced so for most it was kind of he backed up the talk. PK didn't like it and has brought it up a couple times. Andrews isn't a chatty interview and gives these one word replies and...PK just doesn't seem to like him.

Everyone else around gives him credit for being a UDFA that beat out two drafted guys. Most say same as me-he's probably a backup not a starting RB.

Only PK seems to dislike him. Also IIRC he was the only one that didn't write an Andrews is starting article.

Love PK, never sure how to take his Andrews comments.

According to many, Searcy supposedly is very much not a FS but a SS.

Still there's about a week where hints are laid that he could switch to FS. It was right after the Jalen Ramsey talk got loud.

My guess is smokescreen, a weak one, but don't want to show their hand at all.

Some Tunsil articles were followed by 'the other T' but those were kinda weak too.

Still thus far there's a brief pattern to the smokescreens

Got a Q-

Daniel Jeremiah said this

Jack has started 29 games in three years for the Bruins. His 2015 campaign was cut short due to a knee injury. This is an explosive playmaker with a unique skill set. He lines up all over the field on defense, including inside linebacker, outside linebacker and nickel cornerback. Against the run, he has the quickness to shoot gaps as well as the strength to play off blocks. He has a violent punch to take on and separate from blockers and he's quick to locate and close on the ball. He's at his best in pass coverage, where he can mirror tight ends, running backs and even wide receivers. There are games where he covers in the slot and he makes it look easy. He has also carried the ball on offense and he has NFL starting ability at running back as well. He has vision, balance and an explosive burst with the ball in his hands. Overall, Jack has tremendous value because of his ability to dominate at multiple positions.

Do you think he can be Carnell Lake, Woodson, Polamalu type? I've been stuck on Ramsey but those guys did have some LB to em'

What about a trade up from early second to late first? Would there be an NT there? Or secondary help?

Pity the Pats don't have a first this year, they often trade out of their late firsts

Another thread here-
Titans trade for Murray. What they gave up hasn't been announced but rumor is a third.

He is open to redoing his contract and his agent has already contacted the Titans about doing this

Earlier I mentioned a couple 2nd round tender guys, in the last few days several have been added to this pool.

I really hope they can trade with the Rams and get the two second rounders and get a RFA
