He was a Tampa Bay assistant OL coach and their line wasn't good. It was why promote him then? Shouldn't he have done well?Wasn't the hiring of Bob Bostad questioned at the time? Seems like a long time ago.
Warmack may be correct that he could use better coaching. His attitude doesn't seem very coachable however if the criteria is that the coach be a former player worth listening to.
Who is the offensive line coach now?
I'd give ya that any line coach following Munchak and Matthews was going to be perceived as less than stellar, but Whis had no reason to fire Matthews and/or give former players the feeling they weren't welcome.
There's only like 9 guards in the last 20-30 years that have gone in the top ten and maybe Munchak, Matthews and Warmack had a connection...maybe.
That would be a reason for Chance to not do something well repetitively or be in the wrong place often. It would not excuse a nice block this play and 'what are you doing' feeling the next play. His massive talent was inconsistent under HOFers and a bad coach too. That's completely on him.
The first summer with Bostad, Warmack sat often with minor injuries and Lewan played RG at times. Lewan 'drank in' all the advice he could get and especially latched onto Michael Roos. Warmack never did. Warmack's first year he played right next to a 8-10 year excellent tackle. He couldn't have had a better opportunity to pick a veteran's brain.
Nothing was different, ever, with Warmack. He's always been inconsistent one play to the next. If he is not re-signed after 2016, he will have been coached by THREE hall of fame players and played with two that regularly made the pro bowl. Chances are he is not going to get a better opportunity to learn. On a new team, (or this summer)he'd better realize all the talent in the world doesn't matter if you're not coachable. He is quite literally that old cliche.
Grimm has very poor experience developing young players. Obviously there's the Steelers South label and all but his forte has been getting the best out of veterans. I couldn't find any young linemen that did well under him when I researched. The Titans are so young, it's a very curious move but also Grimm was available and teams weren't falling all over themselves to sign him so maybe he needs to prove he can do this too. Lewan, Chance, and Conklin are top prospects. He's got three elite talents to work with and by all accounts Conklin and Lewan are very coachable. Generally coaches love UDFAs that have made a team-their demeanor and work ethic due to being 'hungry.' He has some nice clay to mold here.
Michael Roos has already been seen at Titans practices chatting with the team and pointing out something with Lewan's feet. Grimm's presence(and Whisenhunt's departure) should welcome back the old timers that visit from time to time. Of course I have no idea whom will visit but if Roos, Hopkins, Mawae, Stewart, and Matthews stop by that is a nice opportunity for a young player. In the instagram pic, there's three white guys (no names on jerseys, back of their heads) learning from Roos. Not Chance. I think the other two were the UDFA tackles.
