Titans 2018 (1 Viewer)

I wish I knew more

All I have is my own "umm you were cleared weeks ago, why aren't you playing" thought.

If he were "milking" an injury, he'd totally be back to face a D that allowed a ton of passing last week so I don't think it's that.
hmm I'm confused.  What could it be?

He could be disputing the cleared verdict by team doctors in the first place.

Maybe

As I understand it, since the MRIs improved (and I'm not sure how but I guess resolution and detail) the NFL docs just scan a hammy and if there's no tears or breaks or whatever they'd see, then the guy is clear to play.

It's impossible for a doc to know if a guy is ready or "in football shape" or a slew of mental things. So often these NFL guys are ripped and say "I'm not in football shape" and I think geesh could you get any more ripped?

ODB had a long drawn out hammy that was misdiagnosed twice IIRC, when he was a rook. Used to happen to Isaac Bruce 100 years ago til he hooked up with that Olympian that would become his trainer and wife. I'm sure we can think of others. Maybe he's going to "save the world" and fix the NFLs hammy policies?

I don't know. Just about anything.

They're a union and there are tons of (whatever the word? incident? complaint?) filed every year that we never hear of. It could be nothing. Could be something and we just never hear of it again.

Sorry I got zippo here. I just didn't want to NOT say anything and then some issue comes up in a week or two.

He was declared out today. Whether that was before or after he potentially contacted NFLPA we'll probably never know
Not sure why that was so late. Mularkey said he was out earlier Might just be some paperwork thing

Ya, fair enough.  Appreciate the inside info.  Just made me really curious now and I need to know haha

I gotta say this. Their line was very good last week. I haven't said that in so many years. There were many run plays where only one guy won his matchup while the other two interior guys just remained stuck, but...so so so much better.

If Conklin keeps playing like that, I don't care what the trade down was-he was a great pick. I wanted Ramsey and well about anyone other than him, but wow.

I LOVED Grimm and Mularkey not caring that Lewan got two penalties at times that didn't matter. He was clearly fired up and hitting guys a little extra after the whistle. Yeah so he jumped early. It's a totally different vibe from some lazy or scared looking guy committing a penalty.

The "extra" lineman stuff was brutal and shouldn't have been. That wasn't on the five.

I'm hopeful the FB returns and Delanie blocking from the slot and way more "sure" things than that garbage last week.

On the radio, someone suggested Lewan and Warmack as the "extra lineman" and newly signed Kline covering their spot for a play. I hated how Mularkey-ish that sounds. I want the FB, but yeah I could totally see him doing that. Both of them are super athletes, not heavy linemen that can't move. They are surely athletic enough to play the Craig Stevens role for a single play. I hope Mularkey wasn't listening to the radio.

I really think they are the FB away from being an impressive group. One last piece and it's like FINALLY! After all these years!

In season, players aren't coached as much as people think. There's only maybe 10 padded practices in-season and most practices are like spring walk throughs. From this point forward, alot is on the individual and not as much on the coach. These young guys gotta show maturity and stay after it. I'm fearful Warmack gets lazy and is just like all the other years. Now there's more theory, more planning and less physical. Cmon guys, keep it up!

Well I'll be watching the game late and haven't seen it but Tim Twentyman posted some gaudy stats for the Lions DE opposite Conklin so I'm going to assume he stunk.

Remember how Mularkey said he'd play Casey less and sub Austin Johnson in? Yeah Austin was inactive.

Just trade him, trade him now. Don't say a word to wreck his trade value. 5 months ago plenty adored the guy. Trade him and activate Antwaun.

Inactive in second game is just brutal

Since tons of RBs got hurt, I wonder about Andrews, Cobb, and Sankey. I think Cobb and Sankey are freely available off practice squads.

I am struggling to pickup replacement RBs in FF-guys that actually play. I can only imagine how an NFL GM feels needing someone to come out of nowhere and play.

This might be just the perfect time for them

I thought McCluster to SD was a lock and it didn't happen. Now with Woodhead injured, oh my does it seem like a guarantee. Whis had said way too many glowing quotes of praise for McCluster to have not discussed him. McCluster does not have a contract now so it could always be a money thing but he is the "perfect man for the job" in SD right now.

And then it did.

There are pictures involved, nasty, nasty pictures. Many people are saying it ;)

So interesting to see everyone all positive.

40 Titans showed up to work out on their day off- that's outstanding!

Chance Warmack opting to have surgery and (probably) end his season. Adios.

Wright and Morgan both practicing some. Morgan seems more likely to play, but Mularkey says how there's a chance they both could.

Mularkey said he hasn't found a way to have Tretola up and something like he doesn't foresee that. So clearly they only have him on the active roster so they don't lose him

There's no need to promote a lineman because Chance is going to IR. They have Schwenke, Kline, Tretola and even G/T Kelly. PLEASE let it be Antwaun Woods. 15 snaps for the NT is not enough and Casey has yet to get a sack. Let Antwaun play the middle so Casey can be Casey

I thought this was really kind of hmmm- on another MB someone suggested they sign McCluster and put Chance on IR right away. He said they don't like Chance, got Kline, so cmon we know it's coming. THEN We also know it's coming that Whis wants McCluster because Woodhead is hurt. Sign him and trade him.

The NFL is not fantasy football but I definitely read that like....ya know, that might have worked.

Mariota is turning into a turnover machine.

Running game seems pretty good, but I've not noticed many FB snaps

Missing Delanie was huge yday. Jace Amaro had an up and down day and Supernaw did not impress at all.

OL mostly good but I can't say I paid too much attention

Defensive front seven played well I thought, the corners suck and in other news water is wet

Last year I said i knew i just knew it was mularkey behind the garbage where the talk was of the FB all summer then they used the 2 and 3 te offense. Here we are in 2016 and it is the same. I hate it.

Doesn't even matter who the WRs are in that O.

Sick of it really

No move put in for ASJ.

I don't see one for Terron Ward either.

They DID sign a G cut by the Browns and Eagles to be on the PS, because their lines were so good that...

If they were "a talent" then sign them and look, cut them if you don't like them. They have SO much cap space.

With ASJ, Mularkey being an old coach and former TE, the TE coach, the old TEs they have, and how much time they also spend with Grimm....it might have been exactly what that young guy needs to straighten out.

I have Conklin allowing a sack against Detroit but according to PFF, the Titans two tackles are the only two tackles in the NFL to not allow a sack.

That's something.

I'll take every "something" with the OL that indicates they are improving.

I hope Antwaun Woods makes it to another team and sticks it to Mularkey

It's so very important that the 3 TE is somewhat ditched and they spread the field using the outside WRs. I've been saying this a long time and then repeating it now that both Kendall and Delanie are back.

I was very pleased to hear Mularkey mention it (to a degree) but ya know he has to actually coach the way he speaks (hello FB)

The Titans are awesome in the slot now and atrocious elsewhere. Walker can be the best TE, Murray can be the best receiving back, Wright can be the best speedy lil bugger WR type, but since week one they have been poor everywhere else.

Murray's receiving TDs and effectiveness in the slot is a bit odd for a RB but regardless, that's as good as it gets. First downs and a couple TDs. Welker, Largent, pick your slot guy, he's not getting more than 2 TDs. To get better and add dynamic Wright or matchup prob Walker in the slot, they gotta have an outside threat or two. Otherwise, it's just crowded and will wreck Murray's value and Wright won't do squat.

It's also, surely, the reason they drafted Sharpe and signed Matthews. The Titans O needs to take a huge step up this week and spread it out. I think the season depends on whether they spread out or not

**** Lebeau is a magician. Their CBs are all rated poorly(and I think properly) for their performances in 2016. Can't stop the pass, yet they have been the 8th thru 12th defense and have only allowed 3 TDs in 3 games.

I think the problem is the old classic CB thing of not looking at the darn ball. McCourty made a great strip last week. I watched it like 50 times. I'm not so sure he was out. I think he stripped it and stepped out. Anyway the chances of someone making that play are one in a million. No one is looking at the ball. They stare at the WR and if the WRs eyes light up, then (maybe then) they turn and look. First of all that's a weak way to play CB. It will never work as long as Lebeau is applying pressure. The whole point is to make the QB throw early and be rushed...it's too sudden, that weak type of coverage will never work.

I think it has to do with McCourty. It's new and he returned and was all influential like he's some stud. Riggs never played that way. I'd put Sims in and take Reed off the PS then. They both cover the way you should. Curiously they were also the two that intercepted the ball in preseason.

Wright should get on the field tomorrow and if Delanie also is healed that will make the first time this season the intended starting skill positions are on the field together.

With Warmack on IR I guess that means 10 of the original starting 11 on O.

If they can's score points tomorrow then I really don't think they have a prayer of avoiding a high pick in next years draft

From Joes email:

Source: TitansOnline.com

Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 30, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wright is coming back just as the Titans pass offense is stuck in the doldrums with rookie Tajae Sharpe drawing criticism instead of the praise he was getting for the entire offseason and preseason
What is the criticism of Sharpe?

By the way, i can't remember who the rocket scientist was that cut LeGarette Blount over that other dude that IIRC never appeared in any game.

Was it Munchak?

Last week Sharpe was called out by Mularkey (thru announcers) for making rookie mistakes he didn't make all spring and summer. He is cutting routes short and was this very precise route runner previously.

Today he missed yet another ball that hit both his hands.

It is almost creepy how the Titans develop every WR into the same bad formula, seriously something messed up about it

FWIW...from what I hear, this started at the previous game when close to 80 former players returned.

60 were scheduled http://www.titansonline.com/news/article-4/Former-Titans-Scheduled-to-Return-for-Homecoming-Weekend/91e19b11-2062-4b96-a0b6-7d1277e7832f and more showed.

Then his buddy retired, Arian Foster.

Some say Foster drove to TN and spent some time with Andre, some don't.

Regardless, there were a lot of retired players he knew and spent some time with and it seems to have stirred something up in him.

There's an injury rumor-never saw one. There's a trade rumor-maybe. There's a displeased rumor- he's getting compliments and key catches, cmon.

Mike Mularkey said Andre Johnson called him last night: "He said he's been contemplating it for weeks and his heart was not in it. ...He's about as much of a pro as I've ever been around."

I'm watching the same presser. He just had enough

Andre Johnson's retirement opens up a roster spot.  Who will get it?  I'd guess Tre McBride but maybe not.
Mularkey said, "I would have no problem if he is who we decide to bring up." Before that Mularkey said he's hungry and has been impressive on the scout team.

Now saying his ST play will help decision

Said neither he nor Harry has an advantage in the slot over the other

Presser was scheduled for 1pm

I opened a tab and was to go make a sandwich. Got the bread on the table and Mularkey is speaking over the computer speakers. So, presser had started.

Top of the webpage says 12:30 when I come back too.

Presser was quite brief.

Why do that cr? When does the whole football world care about the Titans?

They need good PR. Praise Andre, lap up the attention.

Welcome back Bri!

Been travelling these past weeks so have not been in here at all for a while.

Happy to have McBride on the 53. Hopefully he can develop and contribute, like he would have if they hadn't signed Johnson in the first place.

Also happy for Johnson to hang them up on his own terms, This way he does not come off as a stat whore (as much).

And lastly, pretty happy to be 4-4.

ETA: Mr Rivers?, Please meet Mssrs. Orakpo, Morgan, Casey and Dodd. Frequently.

That was really disappointing.   Nice to see them come to life for a bit but overall a bad game against a division rival they should have played a lot better on offense.  Sure it was away, but still - you need to win those games.

I don't watch any Titans games but is Mariota really shaping up to be a complete stud?  In fantasy over the last several weeks, he's been a complete stud.  Fantasy numbers don't always indicate how good a QB is playing in real life and I'm just wondering what his potential is as a QB over the years to come.  Are we talking top 5 potential here (again not talking in fantasy terms here)?

Titans benching Cox?

If so, about effing time.

Mariota is playing well right now. Top 5 is anyone's guess, but if he can avoid the costly mistakes that has plagued him early in the season, it is not outside the realm of possibility.

He needs better receivers and for the line to hold up to live up to his potential IMHO. If the D could stop someone on occasion, that would be nice too ;)

#Titans CB Perrish Cox named NFL's worst player last week by @PFF. Luck was 6 of 6 for 142 yds, TD, perfect passer rating targeting him.

But, he is still a starter. Let's see how much Matt Barkley and potentially David Fales can abuse him on Sunday....

This is part of why my negative attitude about Mularkey just won't go away.

Like ms wrote, top 5 is anyone's guess.  But there won't be a large gap between the elite and mm if he isn't included - but I think he will be among the perennial pro bowlers and should easily be a franchise qb for the next decade.

Debated with my fil Thursday - whether the Titans should pursue Alshon Jeffery this off season.  He'd be a good fit imo but will probably cost too much.

6-6 headed into the bye.

Remaining games:

vs Denver

@ Kansas City

@ Jacksonville

vs Houston

Have to win out and need Houston to lose one more before they play the final week.

Yeah, but I don't see them beating both the broncos and Chiefs.  KC at arrowhead is going to be really tough.

Still, heading into the bye I'm pretty happy with the season.  Much better than last year and we've seen improvement at some key spots.  Lots of work to do, especially in the secondary.

If the season ended today the Titans would own the 6th and 13th pick of the 2017 draft.

And this week, Go Falcons!

We need this one. Badly.

Hope we are playing for something Jan. 1 so I can come to my third game this year.

This one would be a huge step to making the playoffs.
