Abhdesmaid(sp?) activated with Klug possibly down. (Looks like Casey will return.) If you've never seen this kid, he's an older rookie from Canada. I want Antwaun Woods.

Al went from inactive to 10 snaps. A starter getting ten snaps...cmon now. Logically, one up one down, if Casey and Klug are out (or one plays quite dinged) they would get promoted. Watch watch watch though if Antwaun is active. He won't play no 10 snaps or be pushed around.

 
I think it's Harry or Wright this week. They must have Tre for special teams. He was a good gunner last year, made a nice play last week, and now they face Hill. To sit McBride so that Harry can backup Wright(or vice versa) seems foolish.

Douglas' block seems fine full speed, when isolated it seems dirty. Not sure I've ever seen a play look two ways before

 
Need to grind it out on the ground in the cold to beat KC. Their LB Johnson hurt ought to help. I'd like to see Henry more involved too.

I saw it during the game and on replay afterwards. It is clear that Douglas dives at the legs. I don't think he speared the knee, looked to me like he hit with the shoulder, not the helmet.

Still I would prefer that sort of block did not happen. Seems high likelihood to injure.

The remaining opponents are Packers, Redskins and Vikings, so it might be hard to eke out any more wins

I wonder, though, if Goff in the concussion protocol does not give the Rams a better chance of getting wins the rest of the way. For those scoring at home, as of today the Rams 1st rounder is the fifth overall pick

I don't know. but number five ought to bring in better talent than number eight, and potentially higher trade value

They desperately need a playmaking CB (playmaking on defense, that is), but not sure whether there is one that should go that high. for once I haven't started looking at the draft yet  :clap:

I looked at a mock recently and I believe they predicted them to take a corner from Alabama. I don't follow college enough any more to know much about it though. 

Always free agency too. 

 
I just hope that who ever they pick doesn't turn out to be a head case, make it rain, leave and then get his head back on straight playing at a high level for another club to close out his career.

Marlon humphrey, local kid (northern Alabama), Good family history (Bobby is his dad), playmaker.  I'm on board. 

Hopefully Mike Williams or another receiver with their own pick.

5. New York Jets: Cordrea Tankersley, CB, Clemson

With holes all over the roster, the Jets add one of the draft’s top cornerbacks in Tankersley. He’s a long cornerback who can get physical in press coverage while showing enough movement skills to mirror receivers. Tankersley had the No. 5 overall grade among the nation’s corners and he’s a good fit for the man coverage schemes head coach Todd Bowles likes to deploy.

6. Tennessee Titans (from Los Angeles Rams): Jalen Tabor, CB, Florida

The Titans are one of the more fascinating teams in the draft as they have two first-round picks, and they’ll go with Tabor to kick things off. He closes on the ball as well as any corner in the class and his big-play style reminds of Aqib Talib of the Denver Broncos. That aggressiveness will get Tabor in trouble with double moves — but he got his hands on 10 of 39 targets this season (four interceptions, six pass breakups) — and that big-play ability will be a much-needed addition or the Titans.

11. Arizona Cardinals: Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan

The No. 2 cornerback spot has been a trouble area for the Cardinals and Lewis is a good fit for their man-heavy scheme. He doesn’t have the size of some other corners, but he brings a feistiness to the position that allows him to play tight man coverage and the results have been fantastic over the last three years. He’s been targeted 175 times, allowing only 36.6 percent of his targets to be completed while getting his hands on 33 passes (six interceptions, 27 pass breakups) and he’s only given up two touchdowns.

17. Philadelphia Eagles (from Minnesota Vikings): Desmond King, CB, Iowa

Coming into the season, the Eagles’ roster looked solid in most areas other than cornerback and wide receiver and that’s exactly how things have played out. They need help at outside and King is a good fit after three straight years grading among the best cornerbacks in the country. He’s outstanding when playing zone as he can read route concepts and make plays on the ball and he’s a good fit for Philadelphia’s defensive scheme that plays a healthy variety of coverages. Over the last three seasons, opposing quarterbacks have a passer rating of just 49.8 when targeting King and he’s been one of the top-graded run defenders among cornerbacks, missing just 10 tackles on 192 attempts.

19. Washington Redskins: Sidney Jones, CB, Washington

Yet another cornerback comes off the board in Jones who brings a six-foot frame and impressive cover skills.  Pac-12 offenses avoided him for good reason, targeting him only 48 times in 13 games and he finished the year allowing a passer rating of only 42.1 into his coverage. Jones graded at 86.9 on the season and he’ll more depth to the Washington secondary which features Josh Norman and the inconsistent Bashaud Breeland.

29. Kansas City Chiefs: Tre’Davious White, CB, LSU

The Chiefs have already shown capable of playing championship-level defense as they can make even the best quarterbacks look bad, but there is a hole opposite CB Marcus Peters and White is a good fit to step in. He had a good 2014 season, looking like a potential first-round pick, and after taking a step back last year, White was back to form with a 2016 season that saw him rank third in the nation with a 90.1 overall grade while tying for fourth with 11 pass breakups

Seems like there is talent to pick from.

it took over the conversation this week...everywhere. It is a "crying shame" possibly the biggest "crying shame" in NFL history. No one is pointing out the phenomenal defensive play by the Broncos secondary to hold Mariota to a single completion in a half and six for the game. Those are best ever stats. I don't know that you can find a D in NFL history that did better against a QB in a half.

Osweiler benched is interesting. Although I still think the Titans have to win week 17 regardless of whether the Texans win or lose next week

 
Not sure I like Bradley being fired, he seemed pretty inept. Sometimes the interim coach can bring out a spark.

I sure hope the Titans keep their noses to the grindstone and not start thinking about the Texans

Beating the Chiefs at arrowhead is really getting my hopes up.  Good defense, very good running game, smart qb who doesn't make many mistakes... that's the makeup of a contender.  Too early and they need better corners, but things are looking good in Nashville. 

 
Need to take care of business in Jacksonville. What a win today though. Number 3 team in the league on the road in one power ranking I just looked at.  

 
Can the Jags really be seriously considering trotting out Chad Henne this week?

Doug Marrone is now the interim HC, and from everything the people in BUF say he is a basspole. But maybe the players will respond to that in the short term

Interim coach, basically an audition for future opportunity, bunch of players playing for their jobs.  They'll play hard but Titans will play harder and are better.

I went to the Titans Texans game last game of year last year. Same circumstances. At no point in that game did I feel like the Titans were trying to win. 

 
I am a big Oregon fan and as painful a season it was this year for the Ducks it has been awesome watching Mariota and the Titans.  He is a winner and continues to get better.  I'll be pulling for you guys to get in the playoffs and get a chance to host a game where anything can happen.

It happens sure, doesn't mean it happens every time.  The Jags may or may not be motivated to perform but I don't think we can assume they won't play hard in the hopes of getting a slightly better teammate next year.

 
Orakpo, Casey, Lewan, Walker and Murray selected for Pro Bowl, Mariote, Fowler and Conklin alternates

So nice. Even if or perhaps because the Pro Bowl is a popularity contest. 

The Titans are getting noticed for good play (although in Lewan's case also for boneheaded penalties, I am sure). So things are looking up for this once moribound franchise.

I must admit I did not think Mularkey could coach. I am still not sure I believe that.

But much credit and respect to Robinson.

I've been whining of him for couple years now only playing 15-20% of plays...wow if this doesn't make Mularkey think nothing will. I don't know that I could name any other offensive player to play 18%??? of snaps and make a pro bowl.

I think it started around the time of AP announcing there would no longer be a FB on the all-pro team. Fowler's name started to get mentioned along with others and...I'm just blown away by this

Now I have started to actually turn. How are you feeling? See he has received sooo much praise, it's made me step back and be like "cmon now."

A 4th for a guy that led the NFL in rushing 2 years prior- that will always seem like a fine deal. Obvious, not like he's a genius, just Philly should have never had him. Who wouldn't make that trade?

Conklin...he had the top pick and was to take a top T. The scouts and/or him got it right. Kudos, but it's somewhat expected great results when you have a high pick-top 15. 

Let me twist this for simplicity- How come Webster wasn't a genius for drafting Lewan but Robinson is for drafting Conklin? 

I don't know, it's just gotten to be a bit too much praise IMO

 
DJ Smith promoted to replace McCourty (probably) and Klug's roster spot was used as he went to IR.

Antwaun Woods was literally the last DL and....guy can't catch a break.

Smith was a troublemaker that fell to the third round, then a troublemaker as a rook and years two he was being praised for maturity yet cut....kind of hard to gauge.

His "trouble" was misses practices, blowing off stuff in college and NFL. Not legal, super serious stuff

Oh, I realize that

Webster should have gotten praise for drafting Lewan (althouh, similar to Conklin high T prospect - so if Webster gets credit for Lewan, Robinson must get credit for Conklin and v.v.)

Actually I think Webster got praise for that pick. And I realize there is an element of honeymoon in the Robinson praise, in that we had not seen his mistakes play out yet, and in Webster we had, so not exactly apples to apples.

That said, Murray's contract and his piss poor performance in 2015 depressed his value to a fourth. And not every GM would have taken that, probably many did not. I know you argued that Murray's contract was a reasonable one. I didn't and don't agree, not for 2015 Murray. For 2014 and 2016 Murray, it's a good deal. But that was still a risk to take and if he had bombed, sure Robinson ends up with egg on his face. But then again, he has scouts, coaches and film at his disposal and on that basis had the means to quantify the risk as square peg, round hole (Murray in PHI vs Murray in DAL)

And it is incredible what a stout OL will give of success in this league. And Robinson sure has solidified the OL this off season.

Robinson: Conklin, Jones, Kline, Tretola, Kelly

Three starters and two of three back ups. Not bad for a guy hired in January of this year. Three trades to pull it off too (four if you count both the trade down to 15 and up to 8 for Conklin)

So, I'm hoping he'll have similar succes with our CBs this off season

While I agree he should get more playing time, even Kyle Juszczyk and Mike Tolbert don't get that many more snaps (Tolbert is under 30%) - and they actually get to touch the ball.  

 
Back 2 back horrible fantasy games from Marcus .. last time he faced the Jags he was on pace for 400 yards and 4 tds at halftime.. he blows up today and rewards everyone who trusted him in the championship

He had about 90 yard td run last year at Jax. Still thanking the fantasy gods my opponent played Eli over him.

Tennessee saw Houston clinch the AFC South with a win on Saturday night. Matt Cassel will quarterback the Titans in Mariota's place in the final week of the season. Alex Tanney was signed from the practice squad to provide depth.

4-5 months is workable, OTAs will be key as the Titans contend next year.  

Disappointing end to the season but overall we should be happy with the Titans season.  They played better than I expected and displayed grit.

Don't know about Brantley and smith might be too excitement but everything else Nintova says is spot on.  Even Alshon. 

 This is a short and sweet list. If a few of these these things happen in the off season I'd be a pleased fan.

Draft: 2017

  1. With their first round 1 pick (from the Rams) I want them to grab Marlon Humphrey CB out of Alabama. If he's gone then they can take a chance on Quincy Wilson CB from the Gators. The Titans desperately need to fix their secondary woes.McCourty is passable but only just.
  2. With their second 1st round pick I would love to see them grab Caleb Brantley DT/NT of the Gators. If he's around at this part of the draft he would be a home run for a Titans team that wants to get after the QB. 3-4 isn't his ideal defensive scheme but he's a great player, and he, paired with Cassey, would be a dominating front with DaQuan Jones starting to figure out how to be a disruptive DE.
Free Agency: 2017

  1. Spend the damn money and get Alshon Jeffery WR in a Titans uniform. Drafting a WR is a chancy crap shoot and often doesn't pay off for a few years. Why not spend on a known talent that is looking for a fresh start and is a true WR1? He's used to playing in bad weather and is exactly what Mariota wants. With Alshon, Rishard and Delanie the Titans would boast as talented a receiving corps as anyone in the AFC.
  2. At least explore getting Kevin Zeitler  G in a Titans uniform. He's exactly the kind of guard the Titans need. Especially if Warmack isn't interested in taking what his current value is.
  3. Attempt to get Harrison Smith FS Minn. into a Titans uniform. It's going to take a major payday I feel. He's become as versatile a FS as there is in the NFL. He would be a welcome addition to a defensive secondary that needs an identity other than "hot mess".
  4. Look into Gerald Hodges ILB SF.He would be an upgrade and would excel in Lebeau's system.


Taking care of business: 2017

  1. Resign Chance Warmack to a reasonable, average guard salary. If not, let him walk. He's not turned into the perennial pro bowler they expected. He's not been horrible either though.
  2. Resign Craig Stevens. He does all the little things a blocking TE needs to do, and does them well.
  3. Resign Kendall Wright to a team friendly deal. He has been pretty much the average work the middle WR. Not great, but journeyman like. You need players like this on your roster.
  4. While not imperative I think resigning Karl Klug makes a lot of sense. He's a menace in a nickle scheme and a serviceable back
