I was hoping dqwell Jackson was a possibility, should be fairly cheap and he can tackle. I like ryan, But yeah, the lack of signings is surprising considering their holes but they're close to contending.

I thought the free agency players available in 2017 was one of the weaker groups in awhile. Which makes sense when you consider how much the cap has gone up recently, teams have been able to keep most of their good players.

 
Wasn't a fan of Davis at 5 but looks like it should still work out.  Four picks away and Allen, Howard, Hooker and Foster are still available.  At least the first three were likely considered at 5.

 
I'm stoked to get Davis. Best wr in the draft. All top 3 receivers gone after 9. JRob knows what he's doing. 

Still a lot of studs left for #18

 
Loved first pick.  Not a fan of Jackson over OJ. Had a chance to have an offense full of playmakers and mismatches everywhere.

Best case tho is that Adoree is Pacman 2.0 without the drama.  The defense does need some playmaking and we have a D.C. that can hopefully get the most out of this kid.

 
Just went back and read the draft thread because I was on Titans Report draft thread most of the night.

We have some guys here that know more than JRob. Pretty funny. 

Titans snagged the premier wr in the draft. Period. 

None of the top 3 would have been there at 18 and we would have nothing for our biggest need.

Great pick. Don't care what the experts here say.  :lmao:

Go ahead and dis MAC players.

Yep.  Really would have loved to add him with Davis.  Still, I like Jackson. Seems like a good kid and somewhat likely to be pacman minus drama.

Yep.  Seems we really could have traded down from 18 and done well.  But the closest trade that actually happened was the Seahawks/Falcons trade and that wouldn't have been enough.  So maybe there just wasn't a buyer at that point.

 
So, another WR and a TE (obviously - Mularkey's gonna Mularkey)

I don't know much about either.

Mayock's quote on Jonnu Smith seems pretty positive: 

"Really solid football player ... Competes well enough. He's more of a move H-back, but he will block. He runs well, catches the football well, he's one of those guys that I don't think he has an elite physical trait, but he does everything pretty darn well."

I guess they hope he can complement/replace Walker in time.

Daniel Jeremiah compares Taywan Taylor to Derrick Mason, NFL.com compares with Stefon Diggs, calls him a slot only receiver (goodbye Harry Douglas)

I guess the receivers this year will be Davis, Matthews and one of Douglas (if he is not released) and Taylor. Weems seems safe since he signed his tender, Sharpe still hasn't worn out his welcome (I guess), McBride seems a long shot now.

 
It bugs me when they draft an undersized ILB who has issues with shedding blocks.

I think we recently cut on of those, forget his name, the guy who was barely 6'0"

Give general manager Jon Robinson and coach Mike Mularkey credit for knowing that a strong running game will not be enough in the year 2017. The Titans prioritized playmaking throughout their draft in an effort to help out quarterback Marcus Mariota.

No one expected Western Michigan product Corey Davis to go No. 5 overall after he missed the post-draft process following ankle surgery, but Davis plays more like a true No. 1 receiver than anyone in this class. His combination of strength and quickness should help take a lot of short Mariota throws a long way. The Titans selected another speedster in Western Kentucky's Taywan Taylor in the third round, and it wouldn't be a surprise if both rookies were to contribute early. This is the same team that started 2016 fourth-round pick Tajae Sharpe at receiver all last season despite ho-hum production.

First-round cornerback Adoree' Jackson out of USC is another player with speed who can put the ball in the end zone. He'll improve Tennessee on all four downs with his return ability; he's a lighter edition of what the franchise once thought it was getting from Adam Jones.

Tennessee won nine games last season with a meat-and-potatoes roster. This  draft brought the sizzle.

 overall looks solid to me, added some depth on defense and the o line. More important gave Mariota some tools. I don't know these guys after the first few picks but they seem like good role players. 

Really would have liked to trade down but that would have meant not adding Davis.  I think he can be great.  Perhaps not Julio esque, but the comps to Antonio Brown are there.

Not a big fan of the draft.  Was hoping they would go big on defense with the exception of a receiver but they went offense and special teams. Davis should be good.  I'm not sold on Jackson as a corner.

I don't think they did enough this offseason to win the division.  A lot will depend on Houston's QB situation.

Hope I'm wrong.  I'm just a guy on a message board.

I've been thinking the same which is frustrating.  They have a good core but really needed to address a few key positions.  They actually improved their secondary a lot (in theory anyway) which was their biggest need. But you're right that the off season seems like a bit of a letdown. 

 
Concur. The AFC South title should not come to the Titans because the rest of the teams are in a weak period. They should wrest the crown out of the other teams white knuckled hands ....

That, and they need to set their sights on the conference and winning in the playoffs not just division. 

 
Titans O/U initially set at 9.5 by Southpoint but has been bet down to 9.  Only 5 teams were set higher - Patriots at 11, Steelers and Seahawks at 10.5 and Falcons and Packers at 10.  Ravens, Cowboys and Raiders were also 9.5.

 
Tajae Sharpe accused of assaulting a man outside a bar while Tretola served as a lookout.  Sharpe was allegedly upset because the Titans took Davis in the first.

haha ya I had read the story... seems crazy.  He denies being involved at all so maybe this is fake?  I just can't even fathom an nfl athlete being so mad about who his team drafted that he goes and beats someone to a pulp.

they play zone and that should suit him well

 
Sylvester Williams won't do any one on ones in OTAs, zero contact. Antwuan Woods did well and Ben Jones got in trouble for penalties so....things looking good for Woods.

Taylor made two great catches that caught Mariota's attention. Davis got the "we know what he can do" classic quote. ZERO mention of Sharpe today or rookie Smith.

Mariota was so happy and giddy with the press. He's thrilled to be back

Logan Ryan made an impressive play against Rishard Matthews on the very first live action snap. Sims opposite him. McCain couldn't handle Taylor in slot. No mention of Adoree. He signed contract in afternoon, practice was over about noon. Unsure if he was there.

Jayon Brown transitioned very well from rookie stuff to veterans. Both UCLA guys expected to play all four spots now, so it's looking like Mularkey already loves Brown. While Wallace does everything good(not great) Brown supposedly struggles to shed blockers and rush the passer, but tackles well and covers great. 

Dodd out for OTAs should be full go for camp. Zero mention of Carraway today. He needs to try and do something in OTAs with Dodd out. Mularkey looked anxious for Dodd when he answered PKs Q about whether he'd be a full go. I think he's waiting hoping for his patience with Dodd to pay off

Rookie linemen ran with Western Kentucky running QB. I've been predicting both don't make it. Too hard a group to crack. Rookie T couldn't keep up with Ferguson. He's giant and very much not fast so he could really be in a bad spot hoping to make the team while blocking for Ferguson. He better beat out Tyler Marz so he can run with Tanney's group or do a whole lot of jogging between OTAs and TC. Lewan and Conklin can run so they won't be changing the O too too much to suit a late round rookie. 

Cali RB pulled on day one, Fluellen went back in.

Klug out but I've been predicting PUP for him since it takes a full calendar year for almost everyone with his type injury. Titans still seem to think he'll be in camp though

Mularkey is liking Ferguson. "Everyone" said his running had Mularkey smiling. Gimmicky probably but threw OK too. Total wildcard but real interesting. Somewhere Kordell Stewart is wondering if Ferguson can catch.

Verner was too out of shape for Jags, going for another tryout there in a month.

Antonio Andrews was caught up in something, I forget. Horrible timing for him to land on a team.

I believe the Titans are lacking a free safety still since they played 3 much of last year and two were FS. Regardless, they could sorely use a backup FS. Rashad Johnson and Daimion Stafford are still free agents (which is curious). Stafford played more snaps than Searcy and really improved a lot last year. Wyatt singled him out a couple times as his player of the game IIRC. Cyprien can't cover well but plays the run great. Trawick? The ST guy from the Raiders has always been 3rd or 4th string, not counted on to play. He did well thrust into a game late last year but that surprised many-showing the low expectations for him. Byard's backups are Riley, ST guy, and two UDFAs. They could sure use one of Johnson or Stafford

With the cuts now being all at once, I would expect minor trades especially from guys like Robinson. A depth guy for a depth guy

Nope.Not really. I think the Titans employ some Joe Gibbs like H-back offense this year.

Greg Cosell had stated that the H back role suits Smith best as he learns behind Delanie(not Fasano's role) and it suits Fowler well too. He also said their traditional 2TE alignment could just use Delanie as an H-back. He said he wouldn't be surprised if it could help some of the other TEs too.

Gibbs, an air coryell disciple, used an H-back both times he coach, but first was to stop LT. The caddy corner alignment didn't have them up in LT's face and gave them a step to react. Everyone in the AFC South improved their DL. The Titans are built very well to handle them with Lewan and Conklin, but with the two and three TE alignments they use, those guys have often had help. 

Cosell used some phrase- extra hands and I really think that's what he meant when he said Mularkey likes extra hands on the best DL and has always found a way to have extra hands on them. 

Jerome Cunningham (shocker) is surprisingly best suited to replace Fasano since he's their (cough) best blocker. Supernaw is just OK and a better receiver than Cunningham. There's this feel that Mularkey knows he will be disappointed or just flat out knows they can't handle the (60% of snaps IIRC for Fasano, this is a key role!) role. Which goes back to, "we have the weapons to use an h-back and are well set up to do that."

Cosell also suggested the FB more last year and how Henry is more than capable of being a FB in a backfield with Murray too. The fb was in on like 14% of plays.

The TE market has a slew of "has beens" available and the Titans are NOT interested. Robinson was on a radio show and sounded supremely confident in this group. The Q was that former Cleveland TE before Barnidge. He claims they are well set to replace Fasano. It seems like every Titans fan thinks "oh really? how?" If you count Stevens' last minute retirement, the Titans really lost two key cog TEs from last year.

A common Q was about sending two TEs out and then lining em' out wide and in the slot. Wycheck said no way, Mularkey would feel Mariota is naked out there. Which again is back to Cosell saying how Mularkey has to put extra hands on the best DL. Wycheck mentioned a lot of former Titans TEs that lined up one step off the line. (Same thinking as Gibbs but not h-back) He thinks they give Jonnu this cushion and start him. Wycheck said something about Smith using his hands too much and not enough legs, but with Lewan or Conklin nearby, he'll be fine til he learns. Wycheck is very much in favor of putting Smith in ASAP.

Smith played both TE slots in rookie camp and made some errors. I don't know what, but he studied and they said he got it under control. 

It's really everyone guessing how Mularkey (who loves TEs) will replace Fasano/Stevens role without a top blocker. I think PFF rated Fasano best blocking TE last year and Stevens the prior two. Mularkey and Robinson and Robiske have said it won't be a 3 WR set so squash any thoughts there. They couldn't be more emphatic.

It seems like a bit of a numbers crunch for your favorite Fowler getting more playing time. Especially if Henry does get some FB/HB looks at times.

I haven't been able to find that much on Jonnu Smith to watch. What I did find was pretty impressive though. He did well as a blocker from what I could see and improving his technique a given at the next level. He has the tools to be a good blocker though and is a plus as a receiver.
