Mariota is way too low. And Sharpe too high.

Is there usually that big a drop in quality around 80?  A lot of the guys in the high 70s look too close to the guys in the low 80s.

I'm not that into this game to answer this Q well. Years ago I was.

It seems that they are way too giving with 90-100. It used to be that only a handful of elite players were in that range. I think that messes them up going on down the line. People on reddit are obsessed with it and there's a giant discussion there.

Other years Sharpe would be reasonable. As long as Sharpe the computer player dropped some, that would work. I remember we used to discuss it like school grades. I'd give him a C as a rookie.

I think if Sims is low, then that's because he didn't do so well to start and they're almost ignoring how he played the last 6-7 games. On the other side though, shouldn't Conklin be one of the 90s?

Nitpicking and showing my age, but Kern is excellent and one of few that will try a coffin corner punt so I think he's quite low.

Dodd is absurd. He did nothing. Notice he is one point ahead of Sylvester? I am in the minority but, I don't think Sylvester was a good FA signing

Walden is a Titan on a 1 year contract (no financials released yet) and Kelly is extended "multi year" and no financials either.

The Walden signing is described by Titans online in a tweet as "Insurance for Titans, motivation for Dodd"
We (and the Titans) need to discuss how the Colts play 3-4 and if we will. Steelers fans have told me Lebeau would never do it, but the Colts weakside OLB is not asked to cover. They'll flipflop sides of the field and have a safety nearby to ensure that one OLB doesn't cover. On one MB the Colts fans call it a modified 3-4 on another they call it a 4-3 hybrid.

Walden stinks in coverage. Dodd hasn't shown anything but that he can put his hand down, which was totally expected of a college DE. Is this OK? Don't forget Dodd has one year of starting experience in college and never played football before college. He's extremely inexperienced.

Carraway is a football player. He played some LB and DL in high school. OL and TE on offense in high school. He said up until 8th grade he literally played every position. Back to college, he played ST most of his college career.

Carraway maybe can cover or be taught to cover. Walden is about to turn 32 so I figure WYSIWYG. I'm not sure on Dodd picking up a new position.

So there's these DE switching to OLB, but then the Titans have typical OLBs

Aaron Wallace and Jayon Brown both played for Spanos in college. Each did the same thing where they played all four LB positions in the spring. Johnny Ragin was a tough MLB in a 4-3 and a fine run stuffer. They switched to a 3-4 and he switched to OLB for two years. His college coach tells a story of him teaching some young safeties how to read a defense and playing safety for a day in practice. He was around 10th rated LB and then got hurt and fell to 18-25 depending where you look. He looked fine in the spring and played inside and outside. There's zero injury concern now. He could very well be a steal due to that injury. Sidenote, he has the best mindset and attitude and you'd love him in interviews.

Since we're talking backups, do the Titans want the traditional types or the former DEs?

Right away I think that they ought to keep the guys that can fill in all over. Last season Wallace made a few plays late and being able to play him inside and out really helped against the Chiefs or Broncos. The other team has an issue sizing up our backups from the huddle if they can play both too.

Morgan and Orakpo are older and soon we are going to need to replace them. Doesn't that mean a backup should be a DE type?

it's tricky. I think Carraway winds up on the PS and does OK in year two

Rishard the without question #1 and leader

Did ya see him speak of Taylor? Impressive every day or more impressed with him each day.

Just before camp, all of the player interviews involved someone saying nice things of Taylor. My fave was Casey saying he will go cover him if he needs to. He got annoyed with him being open too much in OTAs. Byard said he was switched off S to cover Taylor and laughed saying he got put back at S a few snaps later. The kid has the team's attention. That's for sure.

Rishard and Corey and Decker seem the assured top 3, but Taylor is gonna be a monkey wrench here.

My prediction is one or two 100 yard games where the D is like where did that scrub come from and then he does very well in year two. One reporter friend thinks he starts over Davis and can't write that. He thinks Taylor, Matthews, and Decker can play well now whereas Davis has some learning to do.

I love how secretive this all is too. I swear no one knows Taylor looks great

More mature Mularkey?

Mularkey: Not going to force anything we can't do. If we are struggling at something, we'll get away from it.

"He followed that with Supernaw could have a big role or we'll have to find something else he can do." WOW WOW I think he could have just laid the groundwork for a switch from 3 TE to 3 WR offense. I didn't think he had the cujones to do it. Kudos to him if so

Other presser stuff

Eric Decker said how he learned alot from Manning years ago. Asked about Manning and Mariota comparison, he shook his head and then said "Mariota throws an unbelievable ball"

Insert some giant heart or smiley here

On all fairness Decker wad catching balls from Manning after the neck injury

:P

Didn't we do this last year as well?

Let's see the pads come on, the hitting start and the film ne available before we annoint any rookie to be a future stud.

Yes, that includes Davis

The last like ten years really. It's our ritual :-)

Still I like that "the other guy" is getting praise when there is a #5 pick around

If we're talking just about the ball thrown. I wouldn't be a fan of Manning's or Favre's. I think they threw too hard sometimes and all those WR broken fingers sort of proves my point.

I prefer Warner or Montana's touch passes.

Elway threw a nice ball and his "darts' went into the gut.

From a fan perspective, I might side with Mariota over Manning in this regard too

Renewed Kelly, renewed Casey early. Stage is set for you Lewan, cmon down. And don't try to take it all. We need Mariota, Spain, and Conklin too

PK tweeted: Mularkey: Hoping @KB31_Era takes another step. Been no conversation about him more as CF. Based on attack plan for an opponent. #Titans

I didn't hear that and no other reporter wrote that. If you have their app on your phone, feel free. I've listened twice. What's with that?

Kendall Wright didn't have to do squat last year and made the team. IIRC he was present for four days of camp. Sharpe is a second year receiver with starting experience. I think he makes it regardless of when he returns. I don't think they have a sixth that is worth cutting a guy that could develop into a good player. Harry as the coach's pet is about the only one I could imagine and I really doubt that too. I think he more gets a hug and thanks for the memories

Ragin III was released as was John Green from injured reserve. I was surprised by both. Green was widely considered one of the best UDFAs and they could have let him sit on IR for as long as they want. Ragin III I was told didn't show up on time due to rental car trouble and they gave him a pass once during OTAs. I expected both to push guys that would make the team and be right on the cusp of the roster, if not making it.

It's interesting that they are a good enough team to cut good UDFAs. Two years ago, they wouldn't have done this. I do expect both to land elsewhere

Kevin Dodd was sharp today and Mularkey had a huge smile. Apparently the struggling rook must have got his nose in the books and worked out and embraced his "new lease on life" in year two....this is probably the story of today.

Derrick Henry was clearly better than DeMarco Murray in a few drills. Videos are on twitter and instagram by fans. Overreaction followed. Of course I'm sitting there like ummm there are no pads and no one is named a starter due to drill work, but Titans fans are calling for Henry to unseat Murray already.

I will say this though- the big fella looks so spry that a "dancing bear" comment had me chuckling. True "freak" there like Casey. Just mind boggling how a guy their size can move as they do

trying to do this in bits above, so you can quote and comment on a topic. Here's the rest of notes for today

Sims started over Adoree and Searcy over Cyprien. Neither is surprising since it's a walkthrough and they know the D better. Adoree received Mularkey's "patented" consistency speech.

Austin Johnson IS at defensive end and didn't take a snap at the nose. He and Jones switched often. Johnson opposite Casey could be so huge for this defense. I am thrilled he didn't play nose tackle and think that DE is totally his spot.

Antwaun ran with the ones, not Sylvester- told ya.

Mularkey said he doesn't expect Brown and Taylor to have any issues once the pads are on and mentioned their speed as a reason. He also said he still hasn't seen anyone cover as well as Brown. That comment could mean "we may have a surprise starter." We'll have to wait and see.

Orakpo looks like a dad cheering on his kid in little league when Kevin Dodd is on the field. Someone said that on Instagram and I love that analogy. Maybe more than anyone else, Orakpo was thrilled Dodd "came to play."

Decker played all three spots. When asked who played best at X, Mularkey said Taylor. Grumble grumble, then he said "no doubt."

Decker hadn't practice and was up to speed. Mariota and Mularkey praised him for studying and being ready to roll.

Delanie Walker made a great diving catch where he almost went into a fence and... I kind of think that was dumb and risky.

There were more 3 WR sets than 2 TE sets, not that many 3 TE sets. It's looking like a change is happening even if just a walk-through, especially when ya consider his comments yesterday about not forcing things and Supernaw.

Some of the players don't know how to tone it down for a no pads practice and that irked Mularkey a little bit. Second day in a row where he looked giddy that the team was in such great shape

Tomorrow, I would expect the WR depth chart to be this

Z- Rishard, Decker, Mabon(not gonna make it but looks like the 2nd half preseason WR darling)

Y- Decker, Taylor, Harry

X- Taylor, Davis

Once settled, they are to play different spots and become interchangeable. I think they'll make Davis backup Taylor for a day since Taylor did well and Corey sat on a couch at home. After that, I do think it's Davis' spot but another real good practice brings the start of the "where do we put Taylor" issue. The way they talk is that one purpose of camp is to make it that any WR can line up anywhere.

Delanie and Jonnu played the slot some today. Delanie did take plenty of snaps in the slot in 2015 and 2016. If this continues, we're going to have to figure out how to work them into a depth chart of WRs too

Oh and just because.... Justin Hunter was awesome in Steelers camp today. They have some WR injuries so he played with the ones. You guys probably want to search social media for videos of him. It gave me a "good for you" feel. He may be 5th or 6th WR for them. I'm not... it's just nice to see him make some great catches and do well

PK just said that Derrick Henry will be Titans "four minute back" as he was last year. He asked and confirmed as absolutely.

The four minute back is "with a lead, put that guy in to run down the clock."

It may seem minor, but if you think this team will be very good and ahead in games, this could be something to chew on for FF. It makes perfect sense as they can use Fowler and/or the tight ends like Mularkey prefers. Also, it keeps Murray fresh where maybe his feet aren't aching in week 14. I guess it is minor...just, you might want to chew on this. It could be more considerable if you like their chances

Corey Davis did NOT participate in Mariota's workouts. That bugs me. Because Mariota is a gem, he said Davis had a wedding to go to one day, but didn't comment on the other days. The rook has bugged me the last two days with this brief holdout and now this. Surely he'll make a catch tmrw and be adored again, but that is grrrr

@OZ* @msommer isn't that a little annoying to hear?

And it's a small downgrade for the hopes of a new offense with 3 WRs...

They cut Tretola for keeping watch over Sharpe beating up a guy?
He's a loudmouth and a bit of a cutup at the wrong times last year. For the Sharpe incident he was boisterous and standing his ground while Sharpe was apologetic. 2? months later, he was shot to where it grazed his arm. Again he said sticking up for a friend, but word is he developed a "you can't do anything to me, I'm injured" mindset too. (I think I wrote earlier) He is considering suing the Titans for releasing an injured player since they can not release a player that is injured. That would make the other 31 teams not sign him if he does that. He's dopey to even say that. He may have to fire his agent to get on another team and make the agent the scapegoat. IDK but he looks real bad here and developed the wrong attitude. Sharpe has been like thanks for standing by me and the complete opposite

Also FYI from Mark Long of AP:

What an awful night for Jaguars QB Blake Bortles. Five INTs under the lights and first practice in full pads.

Jags fans already calling it a season too. Weird, so sudden

They always seem to play tough against the Titans. So if they fold this year, that would be great. Not counting any chickens, though

Not much today

Corey Davis looks good and welcome back n really dopey questions from the press. Wished I had some foam balls to throw at them. "He looks tall" is not a question. You don't ask how big his hands are as if Mularkey knows, you go look it up on the draft info.

I thought two dinks wrecked the mood of the presser to start and it was one of the worst in years.

Kevin Dodd did very well, again. Pads come on tomorrow, but that he was "right there" for pics of him covering Delanie and Jonnu...I find that a huge step forward for him. If he can cover those two well in camp, he just might pan out. As of now, I look dead wrong on this guy

Rishard made a few excellent catches and some saying he was showing Davis what's what from the other side of the field.

Davis made one nice catch people spoke of, that was it.

Taylor again. There's a beautiful play where he sets up Logan Ryan then turns on the jets to burn him deep. Another, one move, cuts across the field and Adoree can't catch him. Adoree had an INT while covering him, but everyone enamored by Taylor again today.

Decker and Taylor are like Rishard. Make a play, put their head down, and come back to the huddle. No smiles, no celebration, all business. Love that and I want Davis to now join this "club" with this type of mindset.

Explosive is the word everyone is using for Henry now

It's interesting that there aren't all that many fan pics and videos of Murray but there is of Henry.

PK mentioned Mariota absolutely flew on his one tuck N run today. On one MB people are saying he's faster. He's probably not, but that debate is exactly what ya wanna hear. It's a real good sign.

Titans are NOT allowing video but fans are taking them anyway. Security in stands telling them to put phones down and walking amongst the standing people saying the same. This could be interesting as camp moves along. In this day n age, I don't know that the Titans can pull this off without looking badly.

Pads tomorrow has been a big phrase today. It usually shifts into the defense's favor because they need to make contact n all. It's usually good for guys like Lewan too. He's not built for this minimum contact stuff

Surely Oz and MSommer knew I was coming here to point this out but....

Davis did not take the starting spot from Taylor. Instead, Taylor got plays scripted just for him today as Davis struggled. Three days in but Taylor has scored a TD each day of camp. Mularkey blew off Davis' poor day as rookie jitters.

It's worth noting that it's Decker/Rishard opposite the rooks AND it's Mularkey acknowledging an offensive change. Remember one WR for roughly 50% of the plays last year while much of today had 2 or 3 wide. Mularkey said he is "plenty comfortable" with having the rookies battle it out for that spot.

Murray cramped up, Henry shined

Mularkey praised Jonnu for doing everything asked and being a "very able blocker."

Fowler/Jonnu fullback-H-back hybrid seems to be gaining steam

Some hmmmm news is trickling in now

I would imagine Davis takes a week to knock the rust off after spending the predraft process eating buffets. I don't get where the implication that he's some td celebrating diva is coming from though. Hard working kid will start turning heads as soon as he has his legs back. Agree with his redraft prospects, but I think maybe the early expectations are unreasonable. I think sharpe is expendable if he doesn't really wow. I don't see how he comes in and meshes with the other WRs they brought in to take his job. Taylor deserves the recognition but it shouldn't be such a surprise. TT and Kupp seemed like the most NFL ready slot WRs this year.

I think maybe you misunderstood something about TD celebrations. I love the "all business" style and simply want Davis to do the same. I didn't state or mean to imply that he was like spiking and carrying on. Last year, only Rishard and Andre did it. Now it's Decker, Rishard, and TT and I want them all doing it.  Act like practice is work, because it is. They can celebrate in a game if they want.

Davis is in fine shape. He overran some assignments and blocked the wrong guy a couple times. They hit him good and he couldn't adjust right. It's fine for day one in pads. Nothing to overreact to. One reporter said "wait til he pushes back." The big fella will be alright. It's just day one.

Plays for TT is significant. Any time an offense scripts plays for a specific player it's noteworthy. How many? How often? Yeah that's still a "wait and see" thing. Taylor was excellent without pads and Robiske felt it necessary to write a few plays for him. That's great for day three.

Day 3, that's all. Everything still in perspective, just that it's a nice start for one and the other needs to get it together.

Most everyone says Sharpe will be fine. The Titans were a one WR team for more than 55% of snaps last year. He lost his spot to Rishard around week 7 or 8. Last year, the second WR spot was manned by a few guys. Rishard barely came off the field. His attitude should be fine being part of a rotation. The bar incident aside, there were zero issues in the spring before he got hurt.

I've long been saying Sharpe should be traded. A 2nd year player with starter's experience should hold some value. Maybe not a lot, but something for a wheeling N dealing GM to work with on draft day.

McBride has a real good day today. He wants that 5th spot too I'm sure

Jayon Brown was demoted in a way yesterday. 6am, been up all night, sorry with my days.

It might be to see how the originals do and have him with the ones the next day to see a difference.

It was a curious move that we're stuck waiting to hear about.

As a lions fan, watching sanders flip the ball after every td and ridiculous run he had I certainly agree with the businesslike style. I did take that comment as "I hope Davis buys in" as in he didn't already do this.

Davis had a great day today and made a highlight reel catch too.

That's what we want. Not DGB or Hunter or Britt or....go study, fix things in one darn day not to hear the phrase "give him time." I llllllllllove that the "football intelligence" is there.

I guess I want to see him have a few bad days followed by good days again and then I can just not worry about him. I'm so happy it took one day
