Titans 2018 (1 Viewer)

Cyprien out for the season.

Bengals cut LaFell. Could be an option if they are looking to bring in a receiver.
I mentioned this in IDP. Vaccaro is visiting tomorrow but I'm reading that he is an outfielder at most sites (which would mean a position switch for All Pro Byard) but yet another site listed him as strong safety and that he also covered the slot. I'm really not sure exactly about him. I read he's been waiting for big money. I don't think the Titans will pay big $.

Demontre Hurst played S with the ones and surprisingly played very well.

Reid is a common mention as a top S free agent but with his anthem stuff, I can't see an organization that spends offseason time with the 101st signing a guy like that.

Also stuck with this- there probably isn't a perfect fit fill in available- type thought.

Sharpe played poorly the first few days and very well the next couple. Burnett may still not have a drop. He was kind of demoted in a rotation (Jennings did well but not excellent) and when brought up to the first team again, he continued to catch everything. Hitting just started so we'll see. As of now, Burnett is anywhere from 6th to starting slot.

As I mentioned, I have no clue what is sincerely going on with Matthews and it all just "smells funny." With Matthews, I wouldn't want LaFell. Without, I would want a veteran

Delanie is more dinged than hurt. Jonnu had a very good day with Byard and Brown covering him. He's gonna need very good weeks to steal Delanie's spot but it's pretty great that he impressed every reporter today

Not good on Tye Smith, even if he was depth mostly

ETA: They sign NT after cutting Antwaun Woods over some ticky tack thing. Great
Bennie Logan is sitting with "bad feet." I don't know what that is but I chuckled. Camp Vrabel is so not forward with injury news. He only gives what's obvious.

Maxey (I think in camp last year) played DE with the ones and did better than Austin Johnson while DaQuan played nose. Johnson played nose with second group.

Woods- oh he's starting in Dallas

Uh oh not bad feet! That’s what ended Bishop Sankey.

This staff is a "let's see how he does" type so you gotta think with a grain of salt when someone runs with the ones. Way more backups have run with the ones than I've ever read about.

As of now, Camp seems to have fallen at WR and PR and KR so it looks like JRob can stop signing ST free agents and just let the coaches make ST players out of backups like most NFL teams do. The only spot he is still leading is the gunner opposite Sims so...

I wrote a bunch in player threads. Scrimmage last night wasn't the way it usually goes but just O versus D. I prefer it when they split the teams up.

Major issues with C and RG. Pamphile came in for Spain at LG and replaced Lewan at LT. Kelly did pretty well against Casey so he's stepping his game up. It's progress to go from just Lewan doing well to now only have concern with two spots. Lewis couldn't run inside as Wallace stuffed him from the ILB spot, so they just did outside runs and flips to him. It's hmmm did they just quit on the C and RG? It's unclear why Pamphile is coming in for Spain while it's obvious they need him to see if he can't play RG. Kline did better as 3rd unit center than Jones did with the first and part of second.

Stocker missed a bunch of passes the last few practices and dropped some last night. He barely played FB after Fluellen sat. Supernaw was activated off PUP so Stocker's days could be limited...well maybe that's strong since no one is cut til the end of camp. Still, Supernaw has grown on me and I have that feel about Stocker.

The Titans are to bring in the three major free agents at S, but Reid is widely viewed as not an option due to their close ties with the 101st and him being an anthem protester.

Falk had a good night against a D that got Vrabel livid and that Wadley torched. The hmmm part was people talking about how bad he's been previously. Since it's commonly a reaction by fans still- Dobbs has not been bounced out by Rudolph in Pittsburgh. Rudolph is supposedly dominating the 4th string and hasn't been given a chance to move up but just to third string. In the spring, he was allowed to run with the ones and played with each team but they're making him work his way up in camp. I also don't see anything that Dobbs isn't playing well as the third-stringer.

TE Anthony Firkser should be considered in the backup TE thoughts. He has done very well each day.

Jonnu had some awesome blocks but I didn't see much about him catching the ball.

Wasnt he a strong safety at the Saints initially? I seem to remember some strong tackle years to begin with while they were trying to figure out which safety would go where (I can't remember who the other guy was)

A good thing to remember this time of the year with all teams. We should need to see consistent time with the 1st before we even think about adjusting anything.

Palmer to IR. Supernaw cut

Does that mean Sandwich makes the team?
No, maybe PS.

Supernaw is an odd cut with Stocker struggling but whatever. If Kelly is the third TE, he might have been 5th this year. I bet he latches on somewhere. He's a fine backup that occasionally has hands.

Palmer will get his release shortly. I was told he asked for it last week and was surprised it didn't happen. He's always wanted a chance to start with the Titans and never really got it. He's been a good guy embracing the backup role. Maybe he can play somewhere but I think his time might be up.

Cunningham was signed for the 8th time (I think 8, really) so I don't expect him to be anything more than a camp body.

Anthony Fisker has done as well as any tight end thus far. This is when the games start and he needs to perform but he looks like a player

Cunningham is a decent receiving option who they might add again at some point during the season even if he doesn't make the team I would think. For example if Lewis is hurt at some point, then Cunningham has practiced a lot with the team and would be on speed dial.

So you are saying that if the supposed primary pass catching back TE#3 (or 4) will be the beneficiary?

How do you figure?

He has been a blocker in TEN ans not the receiving TE. Camaro, Smith, ...others were. He backed up the blocking guy

Sandwich's touchdown crashed the feed I was watching. I wish that happened in Nashville so I could see the fans reactions.

Awesomeness- some bar owner gave away free sandwiches to everyone after he scored.

When we're not all serious, being a fan can be so fun.

I hope Sandwich makes the 53 now so "the legend" can continue

Titans cut (with an injury settlement) Jamiel President who showed up last Thursday with a sack and a couple tackles. He has heat-related illness and according to the NFL/NFLPA it takes three weeks to recover so Vrabel explained that he would miss the rest of camp and do what's necessary to make the team.

Nick DeLuca had been switched to FB from LB and I was not happy with the move. They cut him. Everything I read was positive and he was so old school he ate grass.

They used a FB on more than 20 plays on Thursday. I stopped counting. Stocker was awful and would hit the line and then not finish by busting through. Instead, he wound up in the way and a "nightmare" for the backs trying to hit the hole. JRob needs to get Vrabel a FB. Whatever the coach needs, player wise, he ought to get.

Burnett is back with the first string rotation and again doing very well. Nick Williams continues to appear to be the top slot guy with his big plays but he has drops every day. There's a similarity to Rishard and the other WRs here and Vrabel will have to decide- do you want reliable hands or speed?

NFL rookie risers: 10 value draft picks paying early dividends

I've identified 10 rookies selected after Round 1 who are already generating buzz and are likely to play significant roles for their drafting teams. Take a look:

Harold Landry, OLB, Tennessee Titans

Drafted: Round 2, No. 41 overall out of Boston College

Landry was one of the most gifted edge rushers in his draft class, and he's swiftly emerging as a force off the edge for the Titans. He used his patented dip/bend/wrap move to generate a sack in the first preseason game. Landry has double-digit-sack potential, and he's a perfect fit in Tennessee's defensive scheme.
Nice that a second round pick may not be a bust, for once

Zero changes on OL per Vrabel.

Cowher may come to camp soon which is even more fascinating with each new coach.

A lot of trade rumors that could be bogus. I think fans and inexperienced reporters can't adjust to being a good team and cutting good players.

Rishard to PUP is a possibility, everything is a possibility. No to giving an injury update soooo read into that? Idk

Haven't been able to watch the games. Is there some sort of indication that things are starting to click and that the team will live up to its promise this year?

I don't think so. I see a ton of square pegs in round holes. It's gonna come down to LaFleur's custom offense being on display week one or two for me to make up my mind. I know that's too late, but I hate this vanilla O.

The only unit that is gelling is the OL and they're in fantastic shape. Watch some of the highlights and you'll notice that they are way more downfield than they've ever been. All in all, they're not as good as 2016 and I don't know about comparing to last year. I still dislike Kline and Jones inside. I think people are comparing Spain to Lewan because he's next to him and giving him less than stellar grades. Most of the NFL wouldn't look as good as Lewan. The guy gets push every time and runs the sweeps well, doesn't allow sacks...what do people want? Drives me nuts.

Brown is still yuck as a hard-nosed ILB. If Rashaan isn't minorly injured and sits week one, I figure Gore is going to have a pretty good game.

I don't like any coach's allegiance to players that don't do well. Vrabel and is former Texans can go kick rocks. I'm giving him some latitude like maybe he's gotta be kind before he cuts them but all in all we didn't get but one guy from the Texans that could contribute in 2018.

Maybe it's pathetic, but if I don't hear the coach raving about the two special teams stars (former free agents) then I don't want them. The shine falls off so easily when they can't play regular D and we'll cut someone that can.

Austin Johnson is still not doing well and I find it interesting. JRob is adored for trading down and selecting Conklin but if he kept his picks he could have easily had Henry and Conklin or better. Johnson looks like the guy ya don't renew and just a guy- easily replaceable despite excellent measurables. Are we still giving him credit for Dodd and Johnson? I'm excited for Henry and love his potential. If he busts or if Lewis comes on, that draft looks awful.

I totally don't understand the Rishard Matthews contract. Does he want to be traded in the off season? What makes him think the team will pick up the option?

He's 28, almost 29. I think he has to have some panic to him now that we're in August and he can't get on the field for the team that he helped rebuild and produced for. Unless you're a superstar, WRs almost can't negotiate a nice deal at 29 or 30.

Let's not lose sight of it being a raise either. He went from 5 to 7.5. The thing is people always say "yeah he'll never see that year in his contract" with 30 year olds.

I don't wholly know what's going on but I guess he can't shake a stick at a 50% raise.

Someone recently said what if this is all BS to get Davis and Taylor practice experience and so he'll come on and do his regular thing. I highly doubt this but I would love for it to be positive news- the sitting and the deal.

Rishard Matthews is very good in the slot. He's been needed outside and early on Landry sort of stole the slot away but he's as good as anyone numbers wise. Rishard is relatively slow and not big or super athletic. People always put way too much thought into this on draft day and when a WR gets old. His third down rate of success should have teams banging down the Titans door or the Titans dying to have him on the field. It's really unfair to him but that's life I guess.

One reporter friend thinks this is akin to a no trade clause. We saw JRob try to trade LeShaun Sims and fail then he took him off the market and turned down bad offers. JRob commented how he couldn't believe the NFL thinking wasn't anywhere near how the Titans value Sims. If the Titans can't trade Rishard at 5 mil then how can they trade him at 7.5? I can go with this line of thinking too BUT he should be practicing.

WHERE IS HE AT

Just an FYI, he is working on the sideline with trainers. He does this before, during, and after practice. One reporter shows pictures of him and he really does look stronger and in better shape now more than ever. Rishard's speed and cuts(drills) are way too fast to be injured below the waist. Compared to other injured players doing these drills injured, he is lightning fast.

Vrabel did say Matthews is close and will hopefully return shortly. He also said though, he may have to start the season on PUP

Vrabel went on about Spain and Kelly. Stinker wouldn't say either locked up a starter spot but really raved. Spain has won him over- he said Spain has great potential.

He didn't say much on the C and RG.

He confirmed weeks 2 and 3 are when players make teams in preseason and said it's been that way in the NFL for years. He does expect some players to return and get in this week.

The new LBs are to get reps and give guys rest so don't put much thought into the recent transactions.

Sharpe has shown up much better this year.

Jennings and Sims have locked down the gunner spots it seems since both were complimented by Vrabel. I don't know that they keep five or even six WRs though.

Sharpe is still nothing on special teams. New coach Vrabel is gonna regret it if he allows Sharpe to make the team and not play ST.

Re Burnett- Always gets his work in. Would you call him efficient? He replied wouldn't you? I bet $ they'll cut him and cry when he doesn't clear waivers

Wadley (still think they keep four since no FB) allowed a day of rest is a good sign for him

Really???

I can't stand his lack of updates. I generally say worse in the privacy of my home. Now we're at a point with no reporters at practice and ....it's infuriating. In another city, this would be an NFLPA catastrophy and reporters would be crying. We have PK with no pull on his own site. Wyatt and Glennon working for the team. New ESPN and Tennessean writers have no pull.

If the Titans struggle out of the gate, watch how fast reporters call for his head

There's a new meme out there with a sideline shot of him all confused as to what the D is doing. People are having lots of fun insulting him with that

So, is Mariota the second coming if Jake Locker? He'd better improve soon...
I didn't think he did well or anything, but the offense looks too vanilla and I thought with a little film-room work, they're easy to defense. I was really hoping week three would show us their new offense. I think it's kind of stupid to wait to unveil it week one.

IF IF IF then that will get them one win because the week two team will have watched the offense a zillion times by the time they play. It sure seems better to have had three weeks of live practice games than to hide it.

I'm really starting to think Vrabel has some personal issues with all the hiding he's done.

Did you see Wadley got a team fine? UDFAs aren't allowed to talk to the press so guess what he got fined for saying? "No comment" when asked about his injury. How petty. That is the modern day say nothing.

I read how he covered Rishard to test him which I thought was pretty stupid because he wasn't exactly known for his coverage and he was a LB not a CB but then I heard how Rishard did very well on CBs first AND THEN Vrabel wanted to see how he'd do against him. What is that? Thank goodness he didn't stop a pass. Adoree or whoever would have had a confidence issue if a 45? year old man can cover and they can't.

Veteran rest for guys like Orakpo and Walker and....I get that but can they get some reps in please?

Stocker is the worst FB I've ever seen and now I gotta wonder about Vrabel with that darn blocking pad. Is he that bad or is it Vrabel can't teach? That does NOT seem like a difficult position for a football coach to teach. Henry has to tell Stocker he is gonna run into him. We tried coaching, let's see what fear does.

I am less a fan of Vrabel every single week and hoping I am wrong oh so wrong week one.

(Sarcasm) I can't wait for him to cut a good player and NOT tell us why
