Titans 2020 (1 Viewer)

Tanny did well, but he's not worth $30 million. If he's willing to come back with a more friendly deal I'm on board.
Give him a x year deal that averages 30 mill, bonus up front and back loaded, with a team out after two years. Maybe pay him a smidgen over 50 for the first two incl signing bonus.
Then hit on a QB in the draft this year or next.

So no DC this year. Hope Vrabel is not taking on too much.
it's ridiculous, his ego just bigger after the AFCG

I wonder if Haslett will be in the press box doing the job, communicating to him, or somesuch

Cushing eating with Vrabel. His one year coaching contract just ended with the Texans. If he becomes ILB coach and Haslett DC, things would make a whole lot more sense.

Also, ya gotta love this offseason of people posting pictures. It really adds to the speculation (of anything) so well

Can we just call Cushing to Nashville a lock?  I liked the guy as a player.

Maybe the buddies were just commiserating over the blown leads.

My issue is still that Nashville is a fun city to visit and football people can be friends. Even with pics of a visit it's still questionable.

Cushing and I are from same town and have some same friends. He had a Titans flag outside his parents home last off-season then retired and signed with Hou as an intern then got real offers so they upped him to strength n conditioning and defensive assistant. No Titans despite the flag hung.

While I'm sure Matt Pees heard stuff about Dad's coattails, coaching high school ball to earn his own way wasn't necessary. An assistant at the Ravens and Titans is something. Very odd turn, wish we knew more details

Would be quite funny if they brought in AJ Green. Not sure how he'd fit in but :lmao:

Firkser resigned (one year) per NFL.com. Would have been ERFA
There was no way he was gone. He does his 3rd TE job very well, he's cheap, and the compensation they would have got would just make them hopeful that their 6th round replacement TE could do what he does.

He doesn't block well enough to be a 1 and I'm not sure he's big enough to be a 1.

In 2018, he had the most interesting stat line as catching (guess) 16 of 16 passes against zone and wildly different numbers against man like 4 for 19. He had less opportunity in 2019(Jonnu AND Delanie were out in 2018) but he was getting open against man during crunch time plays in the playoffs. That's improvement at the biggest apex we could ask for.

He failed at his time trying to be their FB last summer and it's again, he's just not that tough minded blocker guy.

He was a receiver at Harvard then a TE. It's not that surprising that a former WR can't block great in-line or be a hard-nosed FB. I don't fault them either for trying. It's just he is what he is.

I think he's improved enough to be counted on as the backup receiving TE. I think they'll be OK with Delanie elsewhere and Jonnu starting.

BTW Tannehill told a good story of Firkser making difficult catches in MIA and coming through time and again in camp, so he was upset he was cut there and glad to reunite with him in TEN.

Conklin is looking at 15mil per and his agent has received interest from several teams. That was never gonna happen.

I'm not a fan of the free agent tackles so I'm starting to figure they're going to draft one in the first round. (TWO OLBs and RT are must big adds this offseason) The other is the simple cost of it all. It's just sooo much cheaper to get a rookie T than a free agent. They don't have Munchak or Grim to train the rookie and that concerns me. Up until about week 7 last year, we were not happy with the current OL coach. Davis stunk to start and then did a bit better and....by the end of the year, he was doing fine and looks like a good pick.

The blocking TE is a spot I just want them to like someone and sign them 10 years. Who cares if they last ten or 7 or 8. They're always key against a top pass rusher and vital to the backs that run around the corner. They make 750k to a mil which isn't bad for NFL salaries so I'd just rather they lock up someone. Mycole Pruitt was someone I wasn't a fan of in 2018 but he improved considerably in 2019 and I don't want him to leave.

Most of all, I don't want a new blocking TE and a new RT. That was awful when Conk was hurt.

Since Vrabel has weeded out the backup linemen they were working on developing, I could be intrigued by a good backup T here too. I think Kelly re-signs, I mean a fourth T.

This is a considerable 1,2 punch they need to have. Surprisingly enough, the success of the blocking TE and RT has perfectly matched the team's success for the last 20 years. No one's wrong for discussing QB, RB and WR and OC and all the other offensive thoughts, I don't mean to insinuate anything wild. It's just interesting that the success has directly matched their success.

Cameron Batson re-signed means Tajae(fa) and/or Davis(trade) probably won't be back especially because JRob has said a few times he's going to bolster the WR corps. Any add would be "too many" players.

This also probably means they actually use Humphries as the quick slot he was supposed to be since now they have a good backup for that very spot. Also Khalif Raymond, playing this role last summer but just a deep guy in season. Three guys to do a specific role (two of them not much else) I think is pretty telling that at least it's going to happen

Why not?

For a year I'd be good with it.
Brady has become a statue. He's no longer pin point accurate and struggles with the deep ball. Goodbye AJ Brown value. He'll be much more about himself than helping the team, as exemplified in how he's behaved in NE. The old team first workhorse Brady is gone and left is a shell of the player he was, only no longer willing to put in the hours. Let's not waste a year of the line and defense, hopefully of Henry's hardnosed running on a has been. It was a glorious career, he should stay in NE if he can get some more money from them for past performances or hang them up.

Maybe. I'm not convinced he's as bad as you're portraying. But I do get the pessimism.

I may have built in a bit more decline between now and the beginning of the season, courtesy of father time ;)
I think I've decided that if they want to move on from Tanny, I'd prefer to see what Cincy needs for Dalton.  But if that price is significant, Brady would be just good enough to maybe make it to the SB.

You guys are in a tough spot. With the talent on the roster you can’t waste it without having a QB. Tanny may be the best option but it would need to be a reasonable contract. Dalton I think is marginally underrated but again it comes down to numbers. Brady is interesting but the cliff question has to be a concern. Rivers?... Newton?... You guys could probably win with Ryan Fitzpatrick for a year and maybe draft a rookie. If there is ANY smoke with the Stafford rumors he would be a great fit if healthy.

It will be an interesting offseason for you guys for sure.

Bridgewater may be an option if cheaper than Tannehill. Rivers is done. I loathe Cam Newton.

I'd love Stafford but I just don't see it happening.

I never really understood this sentiment. I can totally get not liking the guy, but loathing?   (Fwiw, I lived in NC for 4 years and loved watching him play)

Like him or not, a healthy Cam would be the Titans best chance of getting to the super bowl. I just don't know if he can get fully healthy for a year or if he's really attainable at a reasonable price.

Bridgewater could be a very good, reasonable option. Hadn't really thought about him.

The showboating followed by the whining and the blame game brought me to that stage. He's as far from someone inclined to say "mea culpa" as it is possible to be in this solar system

Cam was pretty bad last he took the field. Then the Panthers fell in love with his backup and yet again he was pretty bad.

It's hard to look at them stat-wise if they're going to dump it to McCaffrey- ypa, yards in general, completion % all get skewed. Yeah I'd throw to arguably the best player too but when he just gets 4 yards on a play that's a weak pass attempt. Their love for the deep ball as a counter is fine, but it's not a real offense. Remember when Stewart toted the rock or Stewart/Williams and they had outside WRs and Olsen? They had options and things went well. This past year, it always seemed like they needed a huge play from a guy like Wright or some name that just wasn't a "make a key catch" type guy. I think it's real easy to defense (assuming McCaffrey gets his) and that's why they throw so many INTs there or at least so many at bad times. They had Hogan and probably saw this coming but didn't use him as such.

I liked Kyle Allen for a first year guy. One to one ratio isn't bad for first year and he had moxie and leadership and...I could see just building around him. Cam didn't take the losing well and looks like a sore loser. I will never understand why NFL fans dislike sore losers but it's a real common sentiment. I want a QB grumpy and pointing fingers. The problem was they stopped supporting Cam. When they had his back and he'd say this guy needed to do X, he needed to do Y, and the other guy needed to do Z; they all responded. Once they stopped supporting him, then it becomes (not about improving) why did you throw us under the bus? Cam was "bigger than life" and it's predictable with any star. With a new team, he could tone down the self importance some, but I do think he's a quality QB. He just lost the support of the team/staff.

Will Grier is the issue here too. He had a first to seventh round grade for much of last offseason, then he went to being some draft guys favorite, then 1st to third rounder. He was not worse than 99 other guys. He's a real good QB prospect to have.  He did NOT pickup the offense well and was at first to blame for his preseason struggles, but then they were pointing out problems with the offense like he's doing things right but why are they doing this? why that? This just got chucked aside, but it was evident the last preseason game and those were the very issues that haunted them all season. He played late in the year and got some experience but in a no frills offense and it was probably just to get his feet wet.

In some regard, the Panthers failed here. They could have had the steal of the draft, a quality player, a sit the bench a few years and develop guy, or a guy that won't pan out but they have no idea on him. In another sense, they had no plans to go away from Cam so why would they? It's just that now they have 3 QBs that could each possibly be quality players or simply not and they have no answers. Everyone knows it, so they can't "hold the cards" in trade offers like they would be able to normally.

If ya ask me, they should trade Grier to (a team like the Titans) for a third. Get their pick back and move on. He can compete and enter the NFL typically if he beats someone out he does, otherwise learn. I don't see a problem with either Allen or Cam winning a QB competition. If Cam wins, he's going to get that support back. If Allen wins, that would show what ya want to see from a young guy and Cam would eat some crow and be a heckuva backup QB.

I really think they just gotta own that they know very little about Grier, the O needs more WRs and genuine spreading it out, and just move forward from there.

I'll admit, I didn't watch him much since 2017. He might not be the same player. But I do think from what I've read and what little I've seen from him the last two years, with Henry, Jonnu, Brown, and others, he could do very well. If he's back to form and working.

One scout pointed out that Bridgewater was taking the easy way out on a lot of passes as if he's gun shy. Not afraid like Couch and Carr after they were shellacked a couple years, but just normal gun shy. A lot of people jumped on this band wagon and his YPA were quite low supporting this. Often times they gotta take a hit to get the key third down completion and it can't be just an easy dump pass to avoid a hit.

Is he reassured now though? After not getting re-injured is he back with usual confidence? It could be he's all set now but it certainly offers some apprehension.

I keep seeing he and Mariota compared as injury concerns and likely to be injured for whatever team they play for. I think Mariota being allowed to run and use his feet will help him a ton, but I can't discard that notion really. Mariota took alot (most snaps ever pace) of hits and showed toughness. He did in spots here n there with the Titans, but that was good for his free agency prospects to take them and "survive." Bridgewater didn't and I'd rather Mariota just for that fact if I was a prospective team.

The 30 mil line is too high or maybe just too common. Rookie QBs don't get anywhere near that. Good veteran backups don't get anywhere near that. We don't really know what "are they a starter or a backup" guys are worth yet. One of my favorite concepts was to land Mariota and Bridgewater at 15 a piece. That's some interesting use of #s. That's wacky and won't happen, but it goes back to that we just don't know what guys like them can command as free agents

Maybe, I wouldn't doubt it.

My concern is still to go back to that the #2 and 3 WR didn't produce enough or as expected. Now that the high has worn off, no one's admitting the luck of having a 4th and 3rd TE and 6th WR make huge plays or that a rookie had to make a mind blowing play to make the O look good sometimes.

Titans fans are acting wrong(word?) and I sure hope the brass isn't. Firkser and Raymond are extremely replaceable on any given Sunday and Raymond all year. Jonnu moving to the one TE changes his spot. I love these players and thoroughly enjoyed rooting for them.

A normal game, zero big plays, zero...anything special, just typical- Humphries has to be the guy they signed from Tampa and be the slot chain mover. Davis or #2 WR has to make enough plays that everyone uses the term "good" to describe him. Further, we saw Brown struggle with top corners in the playoffs, well those two are going to have to be able to pickup the slack those weeks til the young WR learns to beat the best.

Yeah I'm thrilled they went to the AFCG but they'll be huge fools and it'd be noted as a fluke if they continue to expect down the depth backups to make game winning game saving plays. It's nice to have, it's excellent depth but the focus needs to be on the starters.

I also have to figure Jonnu will get shut down by some top safeties some weeks and it won't be just AJ shut down so others have to contribute

Also, there has to be a back up plan to riding Henry into the sunset. Some days he will be stopped. To have a QB struggling to get 150 yards on those days is a straight up traveshamockery

Oh come on, Tanny had one game in the regular season below 150. And he didn't start that one.

He had two in the playoffs ;)  Perhaps more to the point he had 209 against KC when they stopped Henry - and lost.
That said, I'd much rather have Tannehill at QB this season than Brady

I think you're missing my point which msommer's adding to which is simply to not rely so darn heavily on the depth backups but work on the #2 and #3 WRs. That probably means the player can do this n that better, the offense needs to be tweaked, etc.

When you combine that Tannehill was the best 4th Q QB and Henry best 4th Q RB for his career, it naturally makes ya wonder of the other 3 Qs.

I think it could be Smith taking too long to figure out what works or maybe abandoning something he thought would work so they practiced it all week in anticipation. There's something off with 'eh' play through three Qs and dominance in the 4th.

I'm well aware. Which is a reason I'm not screaming that they need to bring Tanny back.

I'm probably more confident in Dalton being a competent QB than most others. I wouldn't give the farm by any stretch but Davis isn't a key cog on this team.  (Besides, as a Davis owner in a couple leagues, burrow could be good for him)

They'd need to have someone on the other side of AJB - Humpries isn't that guy. Sharpe? Hollister? Jennings?

ETA: Dalton only has one year left on his contract (and at 17.5 it may be reasonable) but would he want to play without an extension? At 32?

I'm pretty sure an extension would be part of any trade.

In which case he'll be sure to cost 27+ million per year, like all the other starters

ETA: Thus why trade for him? He'll be cut anyway. No one pays 17.5m for a back up

I stated earlier that it would depend on his price. I wouldn't pay Kirk cousins type money for him. If that's what he would need, then no I wouldn't do it.

Unsurprising but,

Titans make strong push to resign Derrick Henry

Robinson noted that Henry is a key piece they'd like to bring back.

"Derrick had a great year for us," the GM said. "He led the league in rushing. He built off the second half of the 2018 season that he had. He cares about his teammates, he works hard, he's great in the community. We're going to work through that one and do everything we can to keep him around."

Henry earned 303 carries with 1,540 rushing yards and 16 TDs in the regular season, with an additional 83 carries for 446 yards and five scores in three playoff games. Robinson didn't sound worried about the near-400 carry workload being an issue for the behemoth running back.

"Whoever is carrying the ball, if they're making yards and helping us win football games, you keep feeding them," he said. "So we'll see how we're going to build the roster, whether it's that position or another position to complement the players that we've got."

He seemed like they definitely sign Henry but Tannehill....

It was an interesting change, but with 3 weeks til free agency ya gotta figure that was predictable posturing about they guy predicted to make half what the other would.

Tom Brady signing rumors got stoked real high today.

Vrabel and JRob admitting they have talked about it but can't discuss a player under contract

PK wrote a piece how Vrabel said if they go away from Tannehill the team would have to believe in Brady

on and on....it's probably as strong as it will ever get- that's a lot after them checking out schools and selling their home and all

If one more person says they heard the Titans will (trade, cut) Jurrell Casey.....

I would cut several players and sign UDFAs before I felt any need to free up $ by releasing that gem.

OMG will this infuriate me if it happens

Clowney....better not! Ya can't claim to possibly not have enough $ to sign both stars from last year and then sign him. Regardless of how good he is or if he plays half the games or whatever else, he doesn't play QB, RB or WR so it's really puzzling that any credible rumor would have him coming to the Titans

Tanny did well, but he's not worth $30 million. If he's willing to come back with a more friendly deal I'm on board.
That's not happening, IMO. Almost every QB above starter threshold is worth 30 million.  Tannys agent is just going to point at where the market is going.

If the team wants to have leverage, leverage is only going to work on the players who might not end the game of musical chairs with a landing spot.  Tannehill seems safe from being one of those players.

The early reports of transition and franchise for Henry and Tannehill seem pretty good still.

At the moment, Brady coming and only half a season of success is pretty great leverage. Miami needs a QB isn't bad either. They really like Tannehill, I don't mean to sound negative but we're at a point where they are talking about having to cut quality players to pay guys and it's become a bitter market. One thing I saw suggested was 20, 20, 40, 40 for Tannehill. Keep in mind the $ is too high for them to cut after two years and him not get that $. The dead cap would be probably 40 mil range since it's not baseball.

We're looking at a two year window anyway. There's no doubt that in two years there will be major turnover and plenty of players they can't afford. Coach and GM could be safe by then and withstand a rebuild.

Like any good team (and it does happen quick in the NFL) the Titans must land some future starters this draft.  Adoree's 5th year option is something they want but can't afford right now. Logan Ryan they have to have, can't succeed without a shutdown corner in the league. They're only looking at Malcolm Butler for 2021 right now. The backups are all FAs now. They can't possibly afford Evans and Brown soon. This draft is weak on the edge and strong at ILB so it's been talked about (for the third year) that Evans might move outside which is his natural position even though he's a dominant MLB type. That pushes Evans into a very high market as OLBs can make a ton. The offensive and defensive linemen will most all be free agents in two years. I can go on and on, it genuinely looks like a two year window if they don't have some especially good drafts.

One building concept I don't like but understand is to cut a quality player and get another with a contract the team can work around. That is still a possibility. The Titans fans are very loyal to players. There haven't been many free agents to come to TEN and there haven't been as many good players that leave like other teams. They are a bit old school that way and the GM has to be cognizant of the fan base during some of these moves. They put out a bad product the first six seven weeks last year and the other teams fans filled the stadium. The same year they went to the AFCG, was one of their worst years for attendance and merch because most was on the road and they started so bad. It does not at all paint a picture of a fan base that will be patient or tolerant of a rebuild. In Sports, the GM can land a name (like Brady) to keep the fans fascination during something like this. I don't know what's going on and am rambling now, it's just ya gotta realize that was an AFCG put together with duct tape and rubber cement. They need to assure there's a solid foundation to succeed. Losing 22 free agents is considerable this year alone

Here's your wait, wha? moment for this offseason- the Titans were one of NINE teams to make an offer to Antonio Andrews this week during the Spring League. He's expected to get more offers over the last couple days.

Titans were listed as one of the teams that made an offer to a scatback and CB from Japan.

32 NFL teams, all but one CFL team, some XFL teams all showed for a week in Vegas(not over). The setup seems to be predesigned practice and drills, then NFL/CFL/XFL types can run players through whatever, then predesigned, then NFL etc

So I misspoke or misunderstood, an NFL team makes an offer in spring league means they file some paperwork showing their interest and then get private time with the next step being a meeting with the player and his agent to discuss. I didn't know there were phases and ...sorry bout that

Roderick Henderson was a beast 352 pound NT the Titans signed a few years ago. He was excellent in rookie minicamp and then got cut. No one picked him up. Eventually it was said he had a temper problem.

He's playing in the XFL tonight at DT weighing 287 pounds

Andrews' team meetings didn't all go well. IDK what that means or any more than that. That one week elite instructional league ends today. For it to be viewed as a success, players will sign with NFL teams today so....we'll see
