Titans having BEST OFFSEASON IN THE NFL! (1 Viewer)

So if McNair gets traded is it safe to assume that Volek starts this year?
No, they could sign COllins
If Collins is brought in, he will be nothing more than an injury policy for Volek...I think he could be brought in just to lessen the threat of Young playing too early
Common sense alone says the longer the McNair thing drags out the more likely Volek is to be the starter. It would not be smart of McNair to negotiate anything with the Titans until the ruling is out - and then only if he is held to his remaining year on the contract. If he is ordered cut he can even entertain other offers if he wants to - but BAL would probably not like that very much. If TEN retains him the team has a better hand - but by no means a very good one.It doesn;t seem like McNair is going anywhere before June 1st - and that is likely to be too late to make Collins a possibility even as a back up.

If I was Floyd Reese I'd spend the freed up cap on Vince and on getting Brad Hopkins back. Sign LenDale to an incentive laden contract with specific weight requirements and high off season work out bonuses to protect the investment.

I was also suspecting that Hopkins might be back but someone saw him in town and said he's lost a LOT of weight. Down to normal human size.

Anyone care to revisit this topic in light of the current chaos that seems to be reigning in Nashville?

Let's see what Titans' Online has to say...

Titans specialty plates surpass $1 million for charitable organizationsNASHVILLE, TN, Aug. 25, 2006 -- Tennessee Titans fans have found an abundant number of avenues to show support for their favorite NFL team since the club moved to Tennessee in 1997. For thousands of Tennesseans, a favorite way to show their loyalty to the team includes displaying the Titans specialty license plate on their personal vehicle. To those people that have purchased Titans specialty plates and to Titans Owner Bud Adams for helping make the program a reality, statewide groups can now say “Thanks a Million!” As in dollars.Sales of the Titans plate for the first 33 months have resulted in a staggering $1,044,000 in funding for 10 charitable organizations across the state and the Tennessee Arts Commission according to figures confirmed by the State of Tennessee.Tennesseans have made the Titans plate one of the most popular plates sold across the state since first becoming available Oct. 22, 2003. Through June 30, 2006 the Titans plate has generally ranked second only to the “Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains” plate among all others sold and reports confirm that the Titans plates have been sold in all 95 counties in Tennessee.Tennesseans have the option of purchasing specialty plates for an additional $35 above the normal price for a plate and approximately 50% of that amount is forwarded to the Tennessee Titans Foundation. Legislation creating the Titans plates included an agreement that the 10 organizations listed below would share equally all of the funds earned by the Titans Foundation from the sales of the plates:• Baptist Hospital Maternity/Birthing Center • Boys and Girls Clubs of Tennessee • Boy Scouts of Tennessee • Camp Discovery • Fisk University Scholarship Fund • Girl Scouts of Tennessee • Jason Foundation • St. Jude's Children Research Hospital • Tennessee State University Scholarship Fund• Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at VanderbiltAttending the Million Dollar Milestone ceremony were (front row left to right): Steve Underwood, Titans Sr. EVP - COO and his wife Frances; Bubba McIntosh (Baptist Hospital); Agenia Clark (Girl Scouts); K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr.; Dr. Melvin Johnson (Tennessee State University); Dr. Kofi Lomotey (Fisk University); Dr. Roby Cogswell (Tennesseee Arts Commission). (Second row left to right): Ann Collett, Tennessee Dept. of Finance & Administration; Dave Goetz, Tennessee Commissioner of Finance & Administration; Jim Shmerling (Monroe Carell Vanderbilt Children's Hospital); Clark Flatt (Jason Foundation); J.D. Peeples (St. Judes Children's Hospital); Steve Blackman and Andrew Byrd (Boy Scouts); Gary Morgan (Camp Discovery); Judge Don Ash (Boys & Girls Clubs). The ten partners above have all earned equal shares of more than $580,000 earned by the Titans Foundation (more than $58,000 each). In addition to the amount paid to the Titans Foundation, 40% of the sales proceeds (more than $464,000) were allocated the Tennessee Arts Commission and the remaining 10% is allocated to the State Highway Fund. The Tennessee Arts Commission is a state entity that distributes the funds allocated to them in the form of grants to arts organizations throughout Tennessee to ensure that citizens have access to and participate in the arts across the state. “The Titans Foundation is proud to be involved in benefiting so many worthy organizations,” Adams recently wrote to a license plate charitable partner. “We appreciate the work of the Tennessee General Assembly in passing the enabling legislation and the efforts of the State of Tennessee in the specialty plate program.”“Most importantly, we are grateful to the Titans fans and supporters who are making these contributions possible with their purchase of our plates,” stated Adams.
Right...

Sure. I still think they've had a tremendous offseason in terms of the players they've brought in. I'm not prepared to say they're going to be very good this season, but as a Titans fan, I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to bring FAs in instead of watching them all go somewhere else. Losing McNair was not a great day, and I'm not sold that Collins is an upgrade over Volek in terms of wins and losses, but I still like the FA signings they made earlier and I think they had a good draft.

Just for fun...

The Titans sign Collins, Titans trade Volek to the Raiders.

The Raiders acquire Volek, cut Jeff George.

The Titans cut Collins, sign Jeff George.

The Raiders re-sign Collins, Volek gets cut.

This would make my year.

Colin,You really shouldn't feel too bad about the offseason. Its just that the current news coming out of the Titans' organization indicates that there is a disconnect between the front office and the coaching staff; neither seem to agree on the direction the club is heading. Why did they wait so long to pick up Collins? Why do Fisher and Chow seem upset with Reese? This is a team that needs answers more than additional questions, especially 10 days before the start of the season.Maybe they're just thinking of the opener at home against the Jets as preseason game five.

Awesome. That would be Al Davis at his absolute best.

There are definitely some issues at hand. i thought things started looking up when Vince came in, if only because the rest of the team didn't look so lethargic. That made me wonder if Collins has made an impression on the team. I know he's not been there long, but it looked out there in the first half that no one on the offensive side of the ball outside of Chris Brown thought that they could win the game, which is sad. Vince at least had some energy. That said, it's not like he's going to magically make them a winning team at this point.

I was excited to see the option-read in there though. That was cool. I don't know how many variations they are going to use on that, but the one play where they did run it, Vince made the correct read and it went for a nice gain (completion to Wade).

It's going to be a long season...bring on Calvin Johnson.

Shockingly, this very bad football team could be 2-1 with an extra made play or two. This is not a good football team right now. THe stat sheet reads like an autopsy report in most cases. THere rush yards are terrible, completion % terrible, yards per are terrible. And they are still 10 points from being 2-1.

Regarding the free agents, Hope and THornton are playing reasonably well (1st and 3rd in tackles). Givens has been a disappointment and I'm still waiting for Kevin Mawae to anchor the line for the run game, but they could be a lot worse. This team will be lucky to win 5 games this year, but I would't be the LEAST bit surprised to see them do something like Miami last year and win 5 or 6 games in the 2nd half.

(Not like that has led to much for Miami this year...)

Colin, I wouldnt necessarily disagree with that last statement, but I think we'll see Vince Young too soon to get 5 or 6 wins in the 2nd half.

Maybe we should tank to get the best RB to come around in years.Adrian Peterson.
This year's draft is positively :X in my opinion compared to some from recent years, but it is top-heavy at a position of need for the Titans: game-breaking WR. I would love to get Calvin Johnson, Sydney Rice, or even Ted Ginn on to this team. They could also target Thomas or Blaylock to get better at Oline, but those guys might go a little lower than where Tennessee picks. I would not be inclined to take Peterson unless they are certain that White can't be a main ball carrier, even if they think Peterson is better than White. The team essentially spent a 2nd and a 3rd last year on RBs. Following that up w/ a high 1st for Peterson would be a disaster, and would go a long way in explaining why they lack the quality depth that good teams have.

I agree and I think he's going to bolt out of town be it because he leaves on his own or he isn't offered a new deal. Personally I'd love to have him replace Tuna in Big D.

Who is going to replace Fisher as coach next season?
Jeff Fisher would have a job in about 5 minutes. This is a bad football team right now for a number of reasons; Jeff Fisher is not one of those reasons.

I was thinking another NFC East team myself. He would be great for the Giants, but Icould see Dallas as well.

If you didn't think it could get worse, say hello to Vince Young. All WR value eliminated. Goal line RB, FLUSH.

'That's gold Jerry, gold'.

Amazing, but absolutely true. Not sure what that says about the Titans, Jets, or Dolphins. Dare I say it, but they actually played "fairly well" against the Dolphins, subtracting Collins' brain farts and a rookie penalty.I was encouraged by Sunday's game.

Hope outplayed them ALL not only last year, but the year before that as well...And was one of the reasons the Steelers won the Superbowl. Listen, while Polamalu gets the attention because of his wacky haircut, Hope was the stopper... :lmao:
:lmao: Chris Hope is nothing more than an average safety, and he's not good at all in run support. Take it from a lot of Steelers fans who've watched him play.

If he was as good as he thinks he is, he'd deserve a contract like that. But he's not, and he's not close. The Steelers will replace Hope next year with Ryan Clark at less than half as much, and there won't be any dropoff whatsoever.
How does the Titans' w/l compare to the Steelers now?

Hope's contract is a bit heavy, but the team needed some upgrades on the D side and I think they've gotten them. SOme of you are down on Hope, even though he's played well in the last couple of seasons. But more importantly, he's an upgrade for the Titans in a position of dire need, so it's a good signing. I'm pleased w/ what they've done, and if they can snag a solid QB in the 1st round, this team will be well on it's way out of the cellar.Colin
:lmao: :lmao:

As a Jags fan that follows the titans fairly closely, they've improved the strength of roster greatly, especially when you consider the horrible cap situation. To the posters that are giving the titan fans a hard time about being excited I have only to say that you have to understand that it's been a while since they've had anything to be excited about. Let them have their fun now and during the draft. The season will start soon enough. :goodposting:
:you'renumber1finger:

The Titans have not had the best offseason in the NFL.  Not even close to it.
That's the way! Just jump right on in there and offer up your choices of which team's off-season has been better.Way to stick your neck out there, pal.

:goodposting:
I think these teams have all had a better offseason than the Titans so far:Cleveland, Minnesota, Seattle, Dallas, Washington
