(KFFL) Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young will start during Week 4 despite the team previously stating they were sticking with QB Kerry Collins. Young, the team's first-round draft choice in this year's NFL Draft, has appeared in two games this year for the 0-3 Titans. This will be Young's first NFL start.
It looks like the Vince Young era is going to start tommorow. I like this move by the Titans, now lets just throw Lendale in there too :banned: Oh yeah, insert :#1pick2007draft: into the Titans roster. if this is a Honda, please delete.

wow news IS fast around here.

Sleeper TE bump for Bo Scaife.
I dare you to start him... :D Anyway, this should make this game more interesting. And, it's about time they put him in. After all their blunders this off-season it was clear they were going nowhere. This might even rally the rest of the team to step it up. Worst case, they have a young QB with at least some experience for next year.

Picked up Dallas D licking chops for Kerry Collins. This should be even better for the Dallas D.

Ok, now that Young is starting what is his value? Possible Vick like player that will always get rushing yards/td's?

I thought the same thing when I first heard the news, but then I thought about guys like Fitzpatrick from last season. Teams don't have any tape to watch on Young, and it may be hard to pick up on his weaknesses the first week. I actually like the defenses that play him after this week better than the Cowboys.

Not so fast. I am pretty sure the Oakland Raiders might have that already wrapped up.
Good point. I jumped the gun :P
This one might go down to strength of schedule. Could be a close one ;) -QG
Tennessee gets to play Houston twice.
Ah, advantage Tennessee then, they surely will have the weaker schedule :)

My guess is a young QB that more than any other young QB probably needs experience and adjustment from his college style of play, will have accuracy, bad decision making and taking too many sacks as three of his primary weaknesses in his first week starting.

I also own Bennett and I look at it differently. Get the bumps out now and then maybe in a few week thing will be better. It is not like Collins is doing a great job so I am willing to take a chance that it can't get too much worse than that. I would rather him start now than in week 14.Bennett has only 1 TD this year and it was from Young (that may have been the only time he looked at him).

Good points. I'm not sure what to make of this from CBS. Anyone see it as a favorable move for Bennet?:
QB Vince Young will make his first NFL start for the Tennessee Titans on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. The No. 3 overall draft pick played in spot duty in each of the Titans' first two games, but the Titans are 0-3 and hope the quarterback who led Texas to the national title in January can provide a spark to their offense. Coach Jeff Fisher had promised he wouldn't start Young until the rookie was ready, and he publicly said Monday that veteran Kerry Collins would start against Dallas (1-1). But Collins, who was not signed until Aug. 29, has struggled to pick up enough of the offense to help. Collins has thrown six interceptions and only one touchdown pass and has a passer rating of 42.3 - less than Young's 58.8 rating in spot duty.

Can someone again remind me why Tennessee signed and started Collins? They could've produced this same result, while looking less incompetent along the way.

I wish VY all the best. He's being thrown into the fire on a mess of a team. Probably the exact opposite of how you want to bring a QB along.

As expected, the Young era is beginning w/ the team 3 games below .500. Hopefully, VY learns a ton this season and gets more comfortable game by game....that should make throwing to Calvin Johnson next year that much easier.

Go TITANS!

Can someone explain his ranking? Ahead of Charlie Frye? Why?
I am tempted to say "Check back around 7pm..." but that would be snide and foolish. He could be terrible today. On the flip side, I think the team will respond to Young MUCH better than they've responded to Collins. Do I expect the team to win today? Not really. But 300 total yards, 2-3 TDs, and 1-2 turnovers from Young wouldn't shock me in the least.

Is that your unbiased opinion? :P You don't expect a lot of three and outs?
Honestly? No. I don't think I'm being a homer here to say in the first half, I see fewer than 10 pass attempts, lots of rushes from Henry White Brown and maybe a couple field goals as they let Vince try and settle in to the speed of the game. I expect him under center on first down only before moving to the gun on 2nd and 3rd. The passes will be short - screens, hitches, slants. Then, as the game progresses, so should his comfort, leading to more moving Young out of the pocket for some deeper pass plays. Here is where he'll throw the INTs, but also gain some yardage. Keep in mind that while it certainly wasn't a key reason in the QB switch, this is the national NFC game at 4 o'clock and the overlap of Cowboy fans and UT fans is huge. 99% of tHe stadium likely will be people cheering for Vince and wanting him to succeed, regardless of what team they support.

Bennett's only td was thrown by Young.
...and Bennett has HALF the team's receiving TDs. That is big time.
That's the bottom line, and why VY will start...raw or not, he's just more productive, and the team will respond to him and rally around him. They suck right now, but in a year or so, this will be a much improved football team.
You are basing this off of 24 pass attempts in situations that were irrelevent? Or you still riding the UT thing? He will show everyone once and for all just how far from an NFL caliber QB he is, making even Collins look good.

The Titans have 21 points on the 12 drives led by Young. They have 26 points on the 27 drives led by Collins. This includes a 1-play, 1-yard drive where Collins handed off for a TD. It also includes (as a failed drive) the 1st and goal at the 3 Young ended the SD game with.

No, 21 points on 12 drives isn't setting the world on fire, but it's a lot better than what Collins has done. Also, he is a rookie, and today was his first start, against one of the better Ds in the league. The Ds will get easier, and he'll get better. Hopefully so, too, will his o-line and defense...and hopefully they'll quit calling wide running plays against fast defenses when up the gut is working pretty well.
