Titans Wide Receivers 2025 (2 Viewers)

One more week til Tampa intra squad. I was a week off in my timing.

Titans added a practice Friday which is unusual.
I've said before the very good DBs and excellent DC make it tough on the rookies.

We'll see if anything to it

Ridley didn't practice today; not due to the cramp the other day.
He was outside during team period cheering them on and then ran sprints with some of them after practice.

I have a conspiracy theory about today's added practice but since I hate rumor mongering I'll wait til some articles and more radio talk to share it

Ok so I thought this additional practice was for the backups to shine and the radio hosts are now on this line of thinking too.

Van Jefferson made a great catch in "limited snaps", Lockett had a ball, and then Oliver was in and out. They took their helmets off and undid laces and it was early in practice.

After special teams it's customary for anyone that does well to get snaps and Oliver went in again but just for a bit. A deep ball was batted down and he was all smiles as staff talked to him going to the sideline.

My theory was it was for the rookies to shine and how they gotta either push them or roll with that they're fourth round picks. It seems true.

Sadly Dike and Elic didn't answer the bell.

James Proche had himself a day. Restrepo and Jahquan had four catches each and I know they're dogs and they'll find a way to eat.

Elic zero catches and Dike had a dart from Ward that was wow but that's it.

For me it's Proche. You can't keep him buried on the depth chart?
So the two new WRs had two catches each which also is a bit of a sting.

Oliver and Jefferson resting when they aren't is indicative some too.

Borgonzi was with Callahan a bunch which is usually more of a stop by quick chat.

Sooo August 1st, still time-
Didn't answer the bell.

They've got tape on it and time to learn though. Chin up. Lick your wounds and come out battling tomorrow.

Just...can hear the air coming out of this balloon

The Titans ran after practice yesterday and Lockett said it's the first time he's ever seen that in the NFL.

Got some for ya Trip...Elic is doing very well in drills and impressive but it has not been translating. It hasn't clicked yet and the same guys he beats in drills he can't beat in a team period. He's a work in progress but still high hopes.

Dike has been mixing in with ones, being mentored or coached, then in with three's. He has a nice catch a day but not much else.

ST coach looked unexcited talking of Dike. He said he's one of the guys competing for a spot. That was Dike's sure bet ST contribution so...idk this new coach Fassel, maybe he's working him hoping he sees the video. Idk. Gotta assume he needs to step up there though.

Oliver seems demoted to second and third string but then played well on ST to earn his starter reps and does well. Every reporter seemed to mention his great catch today. He just keeps reading like a player no matter what happens. ST coach said he's been great.

Jahquan was late late in team work. Very far down. He made a nice catch and run and he had a clap worthy return today.

Mason Kinsey is entering his fifth? year with the team and was heard teasing Restrepo that's he's him. Kinda funny. I never thought of that. Unless Restrepo wants 4-5 years on the PS he better outdo him soundly. Restrepo did catch some from Ward so please note there's a jocular angle to this and don't panic.

Van Jefferson left Ward out to dry as he bought time and then on a very similar play got open and they had some I gotcha back n forth.

Ridley's run the wrong route junk happened twice but Ward eventually hit him on a double move which yields some "we're back on the same page" vibes.

Ramel Rymel? New guy made a tough catch and got some attention knocking a DB down. This staff loves that quality so we'll see if he gets more looks from it

Terry- Ridley got bumped by Brownlee and thought it was a bit much and a flag was called. He was down holding his shoulder but returned and seemed fine

@Bri What are your thoughts right now on the starting WRs for the Titans?
Ridley, Lockett, Oliver/Jefferson

Jefferson isn't a big deal. He's a good zone receiver and real suspect against man. In no way does he command respect where a D will change for him. They can use him when they want where they want.
I think it's a foregone conclusion that one of the rookies (especially Elic) takes Jefferson's spot and that would give me a whole lot of pause on cutdown day.
They were the worst and not expected to win the Superbowl or anything so they can make uncomfortable cuts for youth. It's not odd or unusual really. I think he's possibly cut and we're saying "but he had a good camp" and if not then by midseason he loses his job.

Oliver has to be flat out beaten out. His lone season on the rookies doesn't give any youthful edge. He's ripe to be beaten out but the guy keeps producing when they don't. This will maybe be Elic's next challenge after Van.

I keep thinking Dike is at risk, no he's not, yes he is. He doesn't shine at all. I think people describe young Lockett when they talk about him. On my TL I saw Horton or Holton running with the ones and highlights and I thought no that dude looks like Lockett. He's not fast and not quick but zoom he went right by you with smooth feet or smooth moves and a flashy catch.

Restrepo has that classic slot edelman Welker cupp I'm catching it anyway type toughness. He kinda gets his shoulders bumped and wedged in there and anti-moss like.

I don't notice Dike on videos and the highlights are sooo rare.

I'm hoping the Bucs practices and games put some pep in Dike. He is curiously their top drafted WR but if he doesn't shine then he doesn't shine

The Titans offense (or the team, tweets state differences) has run at the end of practice for a few days in a row now.

Ya gotta understand first few days in shorts and since that point, they've mostly had to run after. Ya gotta take in that Callahan is not happy with the offense.

Change is coming. Any guess is reasonable but we all know that no coach is doing that and keeping things as is.

Maybe it is the rookies doing better? Why is our fourth string WR leading the team in receptions? It could be anything but some change is definitely gonna happen

It’s was a bad bad day for the first team offense, and that side of the ball. So much so, Brian Callahan finishes the day yelling many, many expletives at the offense

****

He goes on about Ridley drops and incomplete passes and...really unsmoothness.

One of my favorite radio hosts said "it's not choreographed" and maybe that's how to describe it

I get people telling me it's just me about Oliver. It is not. Listen to the radio or YT or read the longtime Titans reporters.

Here's a tweet from a young reporter that's doing well just being himself-

I don’t know if Bryce Oliver has lost a 1 on 1 rep this camp, dude continues to impress off the LOS

You can hear the conversation shift to Proche who he praised but the clip stops before ya hear it.
Here's Callahan per Wyatt

Callahan: WR James Proche II has had a nice camp, has shown up and consistently made plays. He's making a case for himself, can help on special teams, too. It's been good to see

This is a problem for every 53 projection. We're all intrigued by the depth WRs and this journeyman is lighting it up.
The other day he had a good guy interview too. He started being asked about if he realizes he's doing well and responded "well you're talking to me." 😊 There isn't usually a swarm of reporters for a fourth string WR. Then he went on and said so many good boy quotes and spoke of Christianity and a business he started with his brothers "channel 3."

It's always insane to try and quantify good guy stuff as having value but also to completely discard it. I'll find and post it. I assure you you'll think "he's a good dude."

There's no other way to word it than the rookies gotta get this guy pushed down the depth chart and clearly beat him out. Just do it already

Titans cut recently added WR Rymel (name wrong, whatever)

The first depth chart is about as expected. It's nothing like previous years with surprises.

If guys are sitting or playing sparingly in preseason, it'll be the veterans so the second team WRs are Oliver, Elic, and Dike.

Jahquan and Prosche are listed as top returners with Dike as each primary backup. He needs those spots or the team needs him to.
Gotta get the number under eight WRs. Elic turning into the other gunner would help too

TD thinks Dike looks very impressive in the slot when he goes deep. Not shy in the middle of the field, has a nice catch n go to him.
(TD isn't on, they're talking of him)

Restrepo has been as advertised with short routes and classic slot.

Radio hosts saying Restrepo and Dike together (cyborg) would make the perfect slot WR.

One guy projects Lockett/Dike transition in slot by midseason.

They're not buying Oliver just as Ridley's backup. Saw it when he was out so sure, but it seems to be Ridley on one side and Oliver, Elic, Van on the other.

Same guy projects Jefferson to backup healthy Ridley
Projects Oliver Elic full share opposite. Thinks this is the position that'll deem if they're a good offense or not and it'll probably be soon they switch to mostly Elic Oliver split

No one on air disagreeing and in YT chat it's crickets so in today's world that's close to full agreement for a radio show

Radio talk- Restrepo is too far down to make it. He needs to get climbing and it's gonna be hard with all short routes. He's gotta make a splash play or get ST work and get noticed.

Between you and EBF's write ups on Dike, I went out and put in a claim on him in all the leagues he's available in. That WR room is wide open with the exception of Ridley. And I suspect TEN will be behind in a lot of games.

Waiting for more from radio or articles, tweets kinda light today.

The offense looked good today and it seems to me like Elic was the catalyst.
Some reporters have been saying for weeks that Lockett and Jefferson have small catch radiuses and discussed if that's age or how they play etc.
In red zone work, Ward has to put it into some tight windows and hit some but seemed upset he didn't get two to Jefferson. Then he got one in to Van. Then a pretty touch pass to Elic during which (curiously tweets are high and some low) he made a nice grab and Ward was fired up after. He was like that the rest of practice.

It could be the recent struggles, it could be Elic or a combo...whatever, it's a rapport builder in the least and sometimes it is a single play. Human nature. We'll see

Oliver was allowed to leave practice early for "maintenance." This seems to be the 2025 version of "kudos you earned some rest" or just veteran rest.
Not one tweet on him doing well but I guess he did.

Titans ten day road trip starts tomorrow.
Practice with the Bucs then a game and then to Atlanta for the same. In between there will be usual rest days.
The starters (the veterans) are expected to play a series or two in every preseason game. First line of WRs veterans, next rookies and Oliver.
This is a very important time I've been mentioning for weeks now. A host yesterday called it "stack up time" and that's pretty good.
Wyatt is possibly the best reporter in the league. 💯 recommend him.

ETA Callahan said the NFL has been communicating that fights in these joint practices are prohibited and he has made it a point to let the team know for a while now. This is a coach that might lose his job so if he says he's laying the hammer down about something it might include a possible overreaction. I hope we don't find out

There are some nice job by the photographer pics of Restrepo making a shoelace grab from Boyle in drills.

He needs to be a decent presence over the next ten days.

Wyatt has him having a good day including some good catches with the second string so maybe this is his uptick

Wyatt has Ward with some great two minute drill work today (8 for 10) that includes Locket, Ridley, and Dike.

So the offense has stunk and had a good day and each of the rookie WRs were a part of it.

This is probably exactly what they hoped for before their trip. Rookies arrows pointing up

Lot of tweets to sift through.

Jarvis Brownlee absolutely lit up Emeka Egbuka. The rookie wasn't looking and got his welcome to the NFL moment. THIS stirred up some good discussions about the Titans rookie WRs today.

No jaw dropping or cringey plays but a lot of obvious learning that they had better get through real quick.

Ayomanor made a cut and a half and faked someone to "break their ankles" and was open by 10-15 yards. Before and immediately after he's spending too much time at the line and pushing during his route. He fought for a nice leaping grab which has a good video available. He's like bumping pushing nudging using his hip then oh by the way leaps for the catch. We don't want to be debating how many yards past the LOS for contact we want him to just get open.

Commentary for Dike seems to be that he's OMG fast but if he gets bumped he slows down so just hit that guy. Dike did alright all in all.

Somewhat expected but the Titans were supposedly working out rookie kinks and they'd be ready. Reporters were saying different and ...they don't have time. Get on that right away.

Restrepo had a single rep with first team QB (Cam) and Bucs CB in drills and got the DB to wipe out and have to recover.

He did well with the 3rd/4th string.

Guy needs more than one rep to climb

If you're gonna watch social media highlights, make it a point to have Ourlads open and look up the DB.

Pretty by Elic right?
Wellllll that he's got me scrolling to find the DB on Ourlads means the rep means almost nothing.

I mean there's an attaboy, sure, but absolutely no one doubts Elic can beat a third and fourth string corner

Bryce Oliver talk now after a couple tweets today.
He had his first drop since last season they're saying and after last week's tweet where everyone wondered if he ever lost a rep this year.

This Wyatt tweet has them talking how Ward believes in him as much as anyone if not more than anyone.

His blocking is noticably good and they're calling him NWI 2.0.

They think every off-season is gonna be "he could start" and there's a case for that but there will always be a prototype WR to take that spot

Bucs fans like Dike
Some fun tweets.

Yes I put some stock into this. It's temporary of course but we all want to react and have a chance to see and they watch football as much as anyone so why not "use them" as a brief standard for a day?

They were unimpressed with Big Jeff and that threw me but apparently Mauch had a day with him and Mauch won.

I learned this many years ago. It's a good barometer. Read the other teams tweets and articles during intrasquad.

Falcons in a few days, I have some contacts from Arthur's time and I'm excited to hear their thoughts and read their fans thoughts too.

Radio- Prosche with "the only good returns" and Spears fumbled and may be done as a returner. He can always fill in but they need to figure this out.

Dike and Elic probably had four catches combined. Maybe some overreaction or over excitement to see them. They did well at times but probably had two catches each

The OL gurus are pointing out Mauch got pushed way back.

I was all obsessed with the chuck aside.

Some discussion that the two rookies might not play much. That better not be true.

Maybe throw a bone if they get off the line clean and do this n that, but everyone is still talking how they're not ready and practice ended hours ago

Restrepo article

Restrepo could be the best person ever to write an article about and explain coach speak versus sincerity and UDFAs and sometimes just pure football. FF writers should make a note to write this down for a next off-season downtime piece.

Everything is present. Every aspect and it's even on the extreme side with college records and OMG glowing quotes and remember he got the team together for workouts?

It is sooo hard to predict if he makes this roster. My gut says no but is rooting for him. My heart says yes. I even think "Titans do dumb things" he can be a counter to that.

Callahan categorized Femi, Gunner, and Ward as rookies ready to contribute. He did not mention the rookie WRs. He said some of the others still have a ways to go.

He repeated his frustration last year of players knowing one spot and how he is insistent on the offense knowing what everyone is doing and not being that way.

He mentioned Pollard, Spears, and Oliver could probably play all eleven if I'd let them and Ward would probably love to also.

Later he said Ridley has spent a lot of time with everyone and done a great job this offseason. He's bought in and is a true leader. At this point, it's just memorization for the rookie WRs.

Restrepo too? No no. He knows all the plays all the positions heh he probably knows the defense too. No one studies more than him. It can't be done. I can come in at 530 and he and Cam are arguing over who got there first and who is leaving last. (So he was clearly referring to the other two)

Another point he mentioned. They're very upset with special teams against the Bucs and already called the Falcons to see if they can work in more ST work.

The Bucs will not be playing their starters. The Titans will be playing theirs for a series or two but he has pages of notes of things that need to be accomplished and the staff is going to make sure they happen too. If he needs to keep starters in longer to get things done they will and he'll also pull them if it gets done early. He doesn't care who it is, they'll stay in til they meet their goals.

Idk NFL teams always talk about building culture, and even though X will be their last roster spot, he pushes everyone around him with his work ethic. I'd rather carry a guy I know will force my starters to improve just so they don't get shown up by a rookie udfa than a third SS or something

Pregame stuff began at three.

It's safe to say other than Ridley being a sure thing and the staff loving Oliver having some significance... everything is still debatable and nothing decided.

The rainy field isn't expected to give any answers today so they're guessing maybe Restrepo or Proche has a day.

Some doubt in Lockett and confidence in Van Jefferson is new.

It seems every debate goes back to they don't know anything yet

Dike has a good return. That's kind of big.

Prosche looked like the vet that should win a return role on any other team though.

Jahquan looked himself on a return. Usual.

Boyle wasn't good and isn't that a monkey wrench in this mess. Allen wasn't all that great either. They need QBs to play well so they can evaluate the WRs.

Restrepo got a good amount of late work but it just made me feel bad for him. He is so buried.

Oliver replaced Ridley, Elic was opposite and Dike in the slot. As expected.
They didn't get a lot of snaps and passes to evaluate them.

It seems there was some reaffirming that they are fourth round rookies that may take a while to adapt.

Someone fairly pointed out "they can't beat out old Van and old Lockett"

They look good. They each definitely have a spark or pizazz to them. I hope OMG do I hope they both develop an IT factor. Can you imagine the Titans with two good receivers? For now though it's just "that kids got potential"

Oliver didn't play much at all. That kind of lumped him in with the veteran first teamers and each interview was all positive about him. He still seems like a lock but all this kind of created some distance from the rookies.

As announcers were saying about the Bucs then TEN "who is up at WR each week?"

Unless the rookies are shining, you definitely have Ridley's backup active and the gunner that makes plays. That's four? Who else? Is there a PR active?

So that's a fair point too. The rookies got a push Jefferson and Lockett to be active too. There won't be 7-8 WRs active even if they keep that many.

Onto the Falcons (not home!) and this is amidst the stretch I said was very difficult for the rookies. They can't even watch tape, show they've learned and do normal routines. They have a joint practice or two then a game.

Maybe hopefully maybe just the context pushes one of them to shine. I hope so but there's one week of camp after, that's it. There's some definite urgency for them to start shining asap

Restrepo played almost the whole second half and had one single ST snap.

That's ominous. It's probably that added extra negative that means he's not making it.

They need to start pitching him on the idea of turning down offers and staying on the PS.

Elic had six and Dike had 3 ST snaps.
I noticed Dike's nice return and Elic once.

I had them keeping four backs. I think Spears injury and if they don't acquire a temporary replacement could allow Prosche to make the team and the rookie WRs a few weeks to show they can handle ST til they demote Prosche to the PS.

I would not expect Spears to be a returner when he comes back either. He's something of the backup or "the other guy" on returns.

Callahan had said they hoped to work on ST with the Falcons because they weren't good and...this all might work out for the rookies and it might be ok they're a little behind in development too.

If you were Restrepo, why would you turn down playing for another team where they would be willing to utilize the skill set you’re showing in practice and instead waste time on the PS hoping someone on the roster will get hurt?

The guy proved that he’s a player in college and from all the reports I’m seeing his skill set is transferring very well. Add to that the maturity and leadership he has been showing and that he has enough football IQ that he’s helping his starting QB to understand the offense and NFL coverages.

If TEN is bypassing him for vets just because the vets have time in the league, then they deserve to lose him. This is how bad teams stay bad.

He seems very happy
He's got his BFF at QB
Three old WRs and Oliver only has six catches
He organized off-season activities
Dike is very fast. Some say this deep slot role is way overblown and more of a nice additional feature and he should play outside.
Staff loves him

****
Oliver went from PS to ST to getting in to maybe getting a token start late.

The bad team aspect helps him.
Not every team can use a slot that doesn't play ST and he could always have a prob getting active without the ST ability.

He doesn't have that hop Edelman and Welker had. Idk that he can be a returner. He's very unremarkable as far as moves.

Radio-
This mornings topic is the rookie WRs don't understand spacing and stay out of my lane. It's often not taught in college and common issue, but ya can't have guys easily pushed around AND running routes where they wind up.
One said "now I know why they don't run pick plays with the rookies."

They spoke very confident this is a big issue and fixable

AJ Terrell did good on Ridley. He's a good player and Ward needs to learn that shutdown corner stuff too.
Ridley had a few catches but wasn't the main cog.
The way I read twitter, it was a bad day and the Falcons would have whooped em.
Oliver clearly was dropped down some in the pecking order like the rookies passed him BUT we know they've been off so must be coaches choice to get them work.
It didn't last.
He made a big "my ball" catch that set a time for them getting it together after an awful start.
Ayomanor didn't give a good effort on a pass and clearly staff upset.
He and Dike didn't come back when Ward was under pressure and looking.
Oliver went in made that catch.
Dike did a nice job on a comeback and great effort to catch a throw that was a bit off.
Ayomanor didn't and got pulled.

Earlier Jefferson wasn't doing well and rotated with Dike and neither did. Ward had words for them. Dike didn't go back outside stayed in slot.

Lockett made a couple tough catches even though covered well.

QB Allen would run second/third group and be replaced by Sieman when he got hurt. Sieman did well. Allen returned late and just got dinged up. Anywho the second group-

Oliver was unusually in this group and he made a few catches as did Restrepo(he moved up a bit then) and DMR. Restrepo had a nice catch n run too. This was definitely the best offense and a ton of animated coaches pointing during the bad day- assumed "that's how we do it"

Ayomanor is not being tough. The hockey player definitely has it in him but he was even bumped around in individual drills.
*****
Sadly I think this will be a common occurrence this season. Every bit of it.
Oliver is very much a "don't you bench me" type producer but also not an elite WR.

Jefferson has issues. We know this.
No one can completely shut down Ridley and Lockett but they are WRs that can be contained and minimized by top defenses.

Typical rookie WR play and ya hope they steadily improve and that Dike did is just fine.

Restrepo seems like a dawg too. I'm not surprised he and DMR stepped up like Oliver.

I've long said and guess again- just uncomfortably cut Jefferson because he's gonna be in the way and they can't not be getting the young players experience for a 30-40 yard game by him. Old Lockett may only have a few bursts left in him but he still can break some and Ridley is still elite. The two can be enough when the young players have bad days. Lockett's age will make us not think twice if it becomes time for a rookie to take his spot too.

The Falcons reporters have them knowing Ridley's moves. It's been a while IDK how true that is from that POV but it is true that the league does. He's kind of a problem if he's not going to be the star. We all know he needs to up his game and be reliable to be elite so maybe this is good. Maybe tomorrow he has a day on Terrell.

The rookies better keep Restrepo buried. They clearly couldn't hold off Oliver. I would guess he gets some Ward reps if those two struggle again.

Maybe the teammates gotta start banging helmets and bumping Ayomanor before practice and get him fired up and tough like. Idk but help push him to be himself and play a little angry looking. Idk....gotta get that kid rolling
