I've never understood this.....they have plenty of extra guys running around in the playoffs......why can't they have some extra guy hanging out in regular season games that can just go to like lets say line judge or something and move guys around so the "coverage" and amount of eyes watching a play stays the same...it's not like the NFL can't afford the extra little paycheck....dude could be one of their group of subs or something....heck I ref high school stuff and as as it gets deeper into the playoffs, high school pays to have an extra official on standby...
