Game day! Go Birds! I am super stoked for this game tonight. NFCE 1st place on the line. Both teams playing well and still in a place to maybe get the 1 seed in NFC for playoffs- which would be HUGE this year, more than most.

I could honestly see any outcome from this game. It's a Thursday Night Game, and both teams had games Sunday. Short week usually means TNF is ugly and sloppy. I give the Eagles the advantage there, because they whooped Dem Boys Sunday and got to rest players for a spell. Washington is coming off a heartbreaking, close loss to a really physical Steelers team. Both teams had to compress their film watching/game planning, so that's a wash. It's a divisional game, and those are always tough match ups, and even when Washington hasn't been good, they've played us tough. Eagles are a better team, but not significantly. Both teams have holes that can be exploited, but WAS is just a year or two away and Philly has the ponies this year.

Keys for a Washington win:
Offense- Establish the run with BRob and Ekeler, widen the field and spread the D out to edges. Get Daniels chipping away at short and intermediate throws that force the Philly D to tackle well and play disciplined. Daniels is accurate enough to dink and dunk down the field against a cushion. See how much 11 vs 12 formation they play to try and force Fangio's hand to play a base 4-3 vs Nickel.

Defense- If they can keep Saquon from going crazy on them and just tearing them up, the key is to pressure Hurts and try and force Turnovers. Look for a lot of blitzes this game. If WAS does win, we'll be hearing Luvu's name a lot tonight. Their CBs, especially with Lattimore not ready to go are bad. St. Juste has his moments, but is too wildly inconsistent. For WAS to have a shot, they have to control the clock, shut down Saquon, put Philly in obvious passing downs and keep hurts off-balance with pressure.

Keys for a Philly win:

Offense- "Just run the damn ball, Nick". WAS D struggles against the run. Philly D has 1B in RBs in the NFL this year. Philly Oline is maybe 2nd in the NFL and is getting Mailata back. As long as Nick doesn't get too cute, Philly wins. If WAS sells out to stop the run- Jalen will kill them with shots to AJ and Devonta.

Defense- The interesting thing to watch here is how Kingsbury tries to force a 3rd LB on the field, vs allowing Philly to stay in Nickel, where they shine. Philly has to play fundamentals: good tackling and good gap contain. Show some exotic sim pressures; make a young QB have to make his reads during his drop instead of pre-snap. And don't let Daniels kill you with his legs. No sloppy penalties to give up 3rd Down conversions. I have faith Q will do a good job keeping Scary Terry in jail, and his statline will be something like 6/49/1 (which sucks cuz he's my WR2).

My prediction is a really close game in the 1st half, with the Commanders even leading at some point. then the Eagles make better adjustments and roll to win in the 2nd Half.

To be fair, Joe posts more about the Eagles, Sirianni than I see him do most teams. I’m ready for he and certain folks to start the “easy”schedule drumbeat again. Any fan naturally gets defensive when they’re told basically their team isn’t as good as their record.

Yep.

One of my biggest pet peeves of football coaches. The Psychology of Points matters. Especially in a game like this.

Playing from behind is such an advantage for the defense. AND YOU HAVE TO SCORE MORE POINTS TO WIN THE GAME ANYWAY DAMMIT.

Take the lead when you can. I know it's not a 100% chance he makes it there but if he misses you are no worse off than if you don't convert the 4th. Especially with the crappy play calling.

I’ve leaned towards the first two for quite some time now, but if there’s something I’m missing, please feel free to let my out-of-touch *** know. Because it sure seems like the subject matter that is funny isn’t touchable and that the corporate board rooms are so incredibly cautious they won’t go there and that complexity in commercials is not good because your average television watcher might not have mastered the language or the nuances necessary to understand the back story, etc.

I think you've more or less nailed it. Memorable commercials used to a display a certain class, cleverness, or at least creativity. When's the last time you saw a memorable, enjoyable commercial?

I can’t really. I should check the “I post my favorite commercials in here” thread to see what I’ve said in the past. Reaffirm my faith in the culture writ large maybe.
