Haven't been able to really play in awhile. But couldn't sleep last night and fired up FO3 for a few minutes in trying to get my brain to stop thinking about work.

I had previously done a peaceful solution for the ghouls and Tenpenny tower, getting Tenpenny to let them in without bloodshed. At one point I popped back to talk to Tenpenny but couldn't find him. Thought it was glitched and moved on.

So I fired it up last night, and hear Three Dog talk on the radio about how the humans were massacred and chastising me for being part of it. Again I thought the game was glitching, as that wasn't how it went down. So I went down there to take a look. Only ghoul residents left. Even the security chief who sells the awesome military stuff was gone. So I go and find Roy Phillips, the head ghoul, and he laughs as he tells me how they wiped out the humans anyway after I left.

:hot:

Blowing his head off wasn't nearly satisfying enough. But I love that the game didn't let everything go the way you want it to.

If I bother I just assassinate Tenpenny on his terrace.

I have a couple of glitched quests in New Vegas. Supposed to tell one of the NCR female soldiers she doesn't have to hurt any more but she won't dialogue with me. Just says "Not now, we're on a mission" even though they're all just standing around. And another finished (but unfinished) one with the Crimson Caravan company.

Completely agree on vault 34 (and vaults in general). Too much designed backtracking, piled on top of my own stupid back tracking, always make me want to just hurry up and get outside.

Finally wiped out the boss deathclaws at the quarry. Had to tell Ed-E and Boone to stay put - they kept running out and getting killed when I was trying to snipe and plant mines and stuff.

I now have high gun and other skills, and a sniper rifle with a silencer. Life is good.

Wait..... i did the final battle. And the game ends? I have the dlc loaded in. This doesn't work like Fo3?
Isn't it only if you have broken steel there is an opportunity after in FO3
Yeah, FO3 only lets you continue with Broken Steel.

I assumed that since I had all the DLC's for New Vegas that one of them does that as well. But nope, the game ends after the final battle regardless. Which sucks for a crap ton of reasons. I was getting to the point where I enjoyed this game more than FO3 mainly because most of it takes place outside and not in Vaults and subways and the colors are better and easier to see and deal with. It was a more fun walk around.

But I have to admit that I'm mad at this point. I have a previous save from when I took the battle so I can certainly go and keep playing because I probably only unlocked like 40% of the entire game but still. I get that decisions have consequences so the ending makes sense in that regard - but it's a fricken video game, not a life lesson at work or school. Let me keep playing.

I am in a quandry - I could reload from the save point when I accepted the point of no return or I could go back to my replay of FO3 from where I left it and have fun with that one again. This is not an easy decision.

I'm almost done with the Blood Ties quest that I got very early in the game but never got around to. It took me a little time to figure out that Arefu was up in the air - I kept walking around where it was supposed to be on my map and got nothing until I looked up. On the bright side, I went for a dip in the lake right there and found a skeleton with cement shoes, a laser pistol, and some ammo. I was hoping there'd be something down there and had plenty of rads to spare, and I was rewarded for my efforts even though it was more fun than useful :gang2:

Sniped a legionaire standing on a dock by himself and failed about ten quests LOL

Taking the raft over to caesar island or something to get a chip.

I'm level 20 and I don't think "hardcore" is that big a deal. It certainly doesn't have anything to do with difficulty level. Just a few more things to watch and tend to - which works for me. I won't go back to playing non-hardcore. My next playthrough I'll probably bump up the difficulty, lower the survival skills and choose the explorer perk to make sure I hit all the locations.

So back into my FO3 second game. When I started NV I had gotten my Lone Wanderer to level 5, as so we go from there.

I decided to do the Wasteland Survival stuff, only this time do it the right way and clear every optional part of it. And so I did that. I was supposed to get some kind of XBox award when I did that but it appears I missed something because I didn't get it and the review of the book in the notes on the PipBoy says it's a little weak on the survival aspect as the only complaint - but the survival aspect would have been the radiation drinking and the broken limb thing - both of which I did like a pro - almost had the rads full and broke both arms and a leg jumping off roofs in Megaton. Oh well. Still, she gave me a crap ton of loot.

I focused on those missions even when walking past other things so I opened a lot of spots that I have to go back and deal with. Of course, the Wilkes kid catches me by the supermarket so that activated the Greyditch missions and the ants. I still really hate those things. But since I finished the Guide I decided, time to do some ant damage. I am at level 9 or 10 at the moment - no companions and playing on a harder level than last time so I am noticing that I am very low on ammo - something I really never was in the previous game.

So, time to kill ants. This time I got the kid to give me the key to the dumpster behind the dinner so that was a nice cache of weapons to help out. Damn fire ants though are a menace. Cleared out most of the street and all the houses. Then it was time to go into the metro station(s). I still have no enjoyment being down there and even in this game I am not going down there unless I absolutely have to. Not a complaint so much as a preference.

So, I am moving around down there, killing ants, finding trinkets. You know, like you do. Find the doctor down there pretty easily. Agree to take the mission for him. And then go into the cave to kill the 5 gaurd ants. Those effers. Used all my shotgun shells and all my frag grenades and I still barely made it - and only by luck - the last two were close enough together that the last grenade I threw injured one a lot and blew off the antennea of the other so they started fighting each other and pretty much killed each other. The one left standing had 1 line in VATS that I was happy to take out with my .10mm silenced. Go back to the doc and tell him he is good and this time I chose the strength perk from him instead of perception like I did last time. I figure at some point I am getting a companion so perception can be a little lower this time.

Got back to the kid and agreed to find him a home. And so I had to travel to Rivet City and find that one chick for him. I hated that the last time and was ready to fast travel back and just put a bullet in his head and I felt the same anger as I was trying to find this girl so I saved at that point for now.

I also managed to do the front bow of Rivet City this time for the survival guide which was cool - didn't even go there the first time. Those boody traps were the suck. So overall Rivet City is a slightly different place to me this time. Still haven't gone into the science lab yet to talk about those missions. Not ready yet. I still haven't even gone to the radion station yet and met Three Dog or all the mutants out front. That is probably next on my list after I find this stupid kid a home in Rivet City.

Got young Mr. Wilkes a home in Rivet City. Kharma loves me. I go back home to Megaton to drop some stuff off and a nameless megaton settler confronts me to say thank you for everything I have done and gives me a steak. Alas, it was not march 15 in the game or it would have been more interesting. In a video game way. Yeah, that's weird.

So, with no active quests at that point my choices were all the DLC's (save BoS obviously) or to finally find Galaxy News Radio. I didn't want to jump into the main quest just yet so I decided, to go to Canterbury Commons. Nice walk there. More animals to kill than raiders. Once I get there I get set up on the Antagonizer/robot guy quest. This time I talk to everyone first and get the Antagonizer's name, so I go down to her lair first to deal with her. When I finally reach her I have a 40% speech check to talk her down. I tried it 5 times with reloading before it hit. So I talked her out of her lifestyle choice, got her outfit and left. Since I didn't kill her this time I was still able to go find the robot guy so I go do that. Get to his office the long way because my lockpick isn't top shelf yet - fricken robots and turrets there ended me once. Got to him and talked him down too. Got his costume and a crap ton of scrap metal.

Go back to town get paid double the bounty plus extra for doing so well. Paid to have all the traveling merchants have better stock - 200 caps each - so I basically did that Canterburry mission for free. I don't have enough to give them 500 each yet but I will eventually I guess. Now what to do. I know. Tennpenny Tower. And this time, I'm not letting the ghouls in.

Go to the tower. I had to pay 100 to get in because I picked the wrong speech trail. Oh well. I tell the guy in charge I can take care of the ghouls. He agrees and I make my way. I leveled up twice while in the metro getting to Roy with all the ghouls I had to kill. Some solid work there. With my perks and whatnot I'm up to 23 points every time I level up which is letting me get up there on everything fast. Get to Roy. I didn't tell him I was there to kill him yet. I let the conversation end and he walks into the tunnel where I can close the door on his girlfriend and the mechanic guy so I do that, confront him, tell him to prepare to die and take his head clear off with the combat shotgun. The other two come in and I make quick work of them. Get all their stuff, go back to the tower and I am loved there now. Better ending to that story line I think. And much quicker. I tried to get up to see Tenpenny and I can't yet.

I guess for the guys that have gone through this at that point - do I get to see him now? I disarmed the bomb in megaton before I did anything so I was never offered the quest to blow up the town and therefore am not being chased by assassins, and with the tower secure now, when do I meet Tenpenny if at all?

Playing on the harder levels (I think I'm at the middle one? I know I didn't choose hard. I have no desire to work when I play a video game.) really changes the ammo dynamic. I'm low on everything. I had to choose the perk to be lucky enough to find more because I'm really low on everything. And having to use a silenced .10mm on the ants was a pain in the you know what.

So I haven't been here much as I have had very little time to play. I have taken on a bunch of extra shifts trying to make up for my wife's inability to work. Put in 45 hours in 3 days last week. Slept most of the weekend.

But I have a confession to make. I have been untrue. I finally got some time Sunday to settle in a game a bit. I noticed there was a new Games with Gold to download and it was a newish one. So I did. Then I thought I'll mess with this a bit just to see what it's like. Just a little flirting as it were. Then I ended up playing it for several hours. I cheated on FO:NV with Dishonored. i didn't plan on it it was just one of those things that happens. Long hours, time apart and a new sexy game shows up. You know how it is.

Finally had a chance to fire up my old save game from FO3 and finished out Broken Steel. Went and got the Tesla Cannon, well worth it. Blowing Vertibirds out of the sky with one hit was very satisfying. Make sure to save before you make the final decision though so you can play out both the good and the "bad" choices.

Played for a couple of hours today, first time in 2 weeks that I've done more than investigate why the humans at Tenpenny were dead that one night I couldn't sleep.

So I did the Blood Ties quest which had been sitting around waiting for me to go find the Family. I cut deals with them, go back to Arefu to turn it in and get the townsfolk to agree to the terms I negotiated... and Evan King is lying dead on the ground with one leg blown off.

####.

This is about the 4th or 5th time that playing on the PC saved me when dealing with a glitch. Previous ones have included the marriage in Rivet City that wouldn't perform the actual ceremony, and once getting stuck in a wall underground and unable to move. I would have lost about 30 minutes of play if I had to revert to a save. Was able to toggle off mesh collisions which lets you move through other objects in any direction, even flying. Walked out of the wall and up into the air a bit, then turned collisions back on and dropped safely to my feet.

Anyway... so unable to finish Blood Ties thanks to a dead Evan ####ing King. I looked up console commands on the FO wiki, and was able to open the console in the game, click on Evan King's body and type "resurrect". Viola, Evan back to life, quest turned in and marked off my list.

Returned to Vault 101 for the homecoming quest. Along the way saw a bunch of wrenches lying around and now I have a bug to make a mod with an old guy in a wheel chair who throws wrenches at you with deadly force. One more thing to put on the to do list.

I've got myself into save/reload spot where I instantly die. Was trying to get into a town that was getting shelled by powdergangers in the NE and there was another way through a train tunnel in the south. Kept getting blowed up at the town so I decided to try the train tunnel. There were some deathclaws that couldn't/wouldn't die near the entrance. I could blast their health down to zero bars but they'd still walk around like they were perfectly healthy. Not sure if this is a bug or part of the quest. So I decide to sneak over to the entrance to the tunnel behind the back of one as he was pacing a predictable pattern. The tunnel door has a hard lock, I quickly "read" a locksmith mag, pick the lock and I'm in. I work my way through the tunnel killing ghouls and disarming traps and get to the far door and . . . it's locked as well. Hard. And I'm out of locksmith mags. Go back to the entrance, and the deathclaw is waiting for me outside. Can't fast travel, can't run, can't sneak, can't kill him. My last good full save was so long ago I have no desire to back. Looks like I'm starting over.

So down towards where the steamboat is for the Pitt, there is a hotel. Alexandria Arms or something like that I think. After the main quest goes far enough and the Enclave takes over the one facility, and they start showing up all over, they send a squad by VTOL aircraft to wipe out some raiders there.

I love the fact you can shoot down the aircraft with a mini-nuke. Very satisfying, pieces of aircraft all over. I let the troops disembark first so I'd be able to loot them after.

Did that too, but with Eugene, blew it clear out of the sky

And mothership zeta is the suckiest ever.

So I started playing this about 3 weeks ago after reading all the fun posts in here. I have used some of yiur guys experience to shape my game. I played the entire game without a companion, except for the mission where you get the GECK because I wanted to kart Fawkes out. But I did kill everyone in thst facility before I let him out. I 100% the game and hit level 20 with the last 3 missions of the game left.

My recommendations:

Get the Victory rifle. It is the best sniper rifle in the game and has the highest toughness of any gun I have seen. I never have to repair it. It is in a shack high above a mountain overlooking Rockbreakers Last Gas. You have to have like a 50 or 75 lock pick to get it. You won't be disappointed.

I found Rivet City really quick so I could fast travel from there and Megaton so I could buy lots of ammo.

Enclave outposts respawn every 3 in-game days. I use 3 of them. 1 below the Regulators HQ, 1 west of the Robco repair facility, and I NW of the Nuka-Cola museum chick to get new Tesla and Enclave armor and to replenish my A3-21 plasma rifle. Having kickass armor, that plasma rifle full and that sniper rifle makes the game a little less daunting.

There is a unique Chinese Assault Rifle thst is kickass, too. Can't remember where I got it, though.

Oh well, I just finished the Operation:Anchorage DLC and I have the last 4 DLC's left. Picked up New Vegas yesterday. Girlfriend is working today and tomorrow so I am hoping to finish the DLC's and get on New Vegas by Monday.

Oh, and getting the achievement for hacking computer terminals and speech checks is the suck.

Some of those missions were not a lot of fun either. Like Agatha and her violin.

Shoot him in the leg and run away.
You could also try hitting Wait and let 3 days plus 1 hour pass and then step out. It might cause the zone to reset and move him off elsewhere.

After a couple days off I hit the Wasteland a little last night. Decided to help our Three Dog finally with his satillite dish problems. Had to end about a dozen mutants in the trenches between the Capital and Washington Monument. And I found the little bunker in the trench that I didn't see before - as I had never actually gone into the trenches in the last game. So I got some good loot in there and ended a few more mutants. Fixed the radio signal and went back to Three Dog to let him know.

This time I paid attention to his gift of a weapons cahce and went there. That maze sucked. Did get a lot of loot in there though including some solid weapons. Went back to my house in Megaton and sold a bunch to Moira. Up to about 4 grand in caps so it is soon time to get the stuff for the house. My rads are in the 400's and I'm dealing some addictions so the house infirmary is going to be needed shortly.

So, once again I am questless with the 4 DLC's sitting there and the quest to get to the Jefferson Memorial to follow dad and see Project Purity for the first time. I don't think I really want to deal with any of them just yet though. Although I am around a level 10 at this point and I'm thinking it might be time to get the Mothership Zeta and get that done so I can get all those weapons. They were a lot of fun even though the quest itself wasnt'.

It occurred to me last night while vegging on the couch after everyone went to bed that I haven't played a non-Fallout game on my XBox in awhile. So I figured, I'm gonna fire up some NHL action as we are getting close to the season. Played two games. And was meh about the whole thing. I figured I was meh because it was football season and I have football on the brain so hey, I'll throw in Madden and play some football. I swear I hate that game now with a passion. I played one series on defense and didn't even finish the offensive series as the usual Madden crap happened on every play. Nope, not gonna do it - need to kill something. So back we go to FO3.

I decided that while I was level 10 and before I continue to the main story line and more important side quests that I should tackle the DLC's. My thinking is with my level being fairly low I could have a little more fun with them and a little less stress since I played them all at level 20ish the last go 'round. And I figured what better way to start than with the one I hated - Mothership Zeta. So I walk on over to the ship and get pulled up to outerspace.

I owe the game a small apology. This mission still isn't very fun as compared to the others and I think it is mainly due to the background and setting in the ship - it's all just the same to me with almost no discernable difference in rooms. Having said that, knowing now what I need to accomplish and mainly remembering the ways around to blow up the generators, this was a lot more fun this time. I am loving the massive amount of almost wieghtless weapons I am hoarding at the moment. I even managed to make sure I brought the cryo-companions into the specific rooms as I blew those things up so I got credit for all of that stuff as well. Wish I could bring that cowboy back to earth with me - love the comments.

So I beat the blow up the generator stuff fairly easily. Still took too much time but I get that making it a short DLC wouldn't exactly be a lot of fun either. Stopped when it was all cleared and Sally was ready to take me to the next step outside the ship. That was fairly easy last time as was getting to the bridge so I should this wrapped up the next time I turn the thing on. I need the slaver chick to die though so I can loot all her stuff. Need to make sure she gets caught in a cross fire at some point.

And Combat Shotgun + Alien Head = massive fun. One shot to total destruction.

Having trouble getting to the bridge, there are doors that simply won't open for me. I'm screwed..
Of the spaceship? I don't remember that being a problem - the ship is a maze though and there might be a key you have to get to open it from somewhere

Finished up the Pitt and Point Lookout DLC's . Loved the Pitt. I actually enjoyed the parkour aspects of finding the ingots and I actually had look up a guide to find 7 of them.

Oh, and Feral Goul Reavers are insane at level 26. I thought those things were invincible.

Yeah, once you get into the 20's and you do those DLC missions the enemies are intense. My first game through with the DLC's the Point Lookout swamp people were insane.

I'm sitting at 12 or 13 right now. Just finished Mothership. I had to leave a ton of loot behind in places I can't get back to which annoys me but I had about 20 or 30 of various weapons that the aliens used al maxed out so when I was done I sold them all to Moira, emptied her wallett and all her ammo and got everything for the house except the laboratory. Went back to the ship to see if there was a way to salvage anything I had left behind but you get locked out of most of the ship at that point - although you can ask the people who stayed if they found anything for you which I didn't know the first time I played through. So I might hit that off and on.

Now walking the wastes with the alien disintigrator and some talon armor and pretty much nothing else because I enjoy that weapon so much. I am either going to Point Lookout or Anchorage next and I'm leaning towards Anchorage so that I can get the Guage Rifle - love that thing even though the fire rate is so slow.

Does New Vegas on Xbox still have the bug that you get the DLC that increases the level cap, but then none of your saved games will load after awhile?

It occurred to me in seeing this bumped that I haven't played in awhile. Football kinda takes over the entertainment in the house in the winter for the most part. But reading this again is getting me in the mood to kill some raiders and ghouls.

I am at roughly level 20 at this point in my game that I was updating for FO3. Finished Anchorage. Haven't done The Pitt yet. I did finish the main quest again and sacrifice myself again so that Brotherhood could boot up. Haven't visited a ton of lookout points though as I planned to. At some point walking around gets a little tedious. And the "shopping" aspect of the game does as well. But I can't bring myself to leave any loot behind either.

I do think, in the end, that the BoS was an awesome addition but there needed to be just a little more. Maybe one more DLC where you get to be the sheriff of the wastes or something or actually see some benefit to there being clean water. Like maybe a new peaceful town being built that you have to protect or something. Just so there is some kind of "things can get better" aspect of it all. Heck, the coolest thing I thought of was rebuilding the capitol building somehow and making it a base/government again. Still though, this is probably the best XBox game I've ever played.

So the game is not finally getting more interesting. I found the beginning to be a bit slow, but I got my house in Megaton so I can store spare guns for repair/sale etc as well as various crafting items. It's a big help in this type of game. Pushed my way through tons of Super Mutants to reach the Washington Monument and the game transformed from endless gray/brown landscape and became much more visually appealing. Up next is the push to Rivet City.

I've been playing FO3 sporadically in what is now a 3rd time through. I feel like I've seen the entire world and everything it offers and the mundane "shopping" for loot has become a bit dull. The Brotherhood of Steel DLC though is probably the best part of the entire game. Just really really well done from start to finish. But I do find myself wanting to play less and less. But more because I've beat it moreso than I don't enjoy it.

So, the question has come up in the house from the wife - oldest wants to get dad FO1 and FO2 for Christmas. Will I enjoy?

Do you like tactical turn based combat? Think Baldur's Gate or XCom. Graphics definitely lag and the gameplay is much, much slower with much more reading than spoken dialogue. The stories are awesome and a lot of the same core elements are there - just presented much differently.

Exactly. I tried but couldn't get it to run right but after trying Baldur's gate recently I think I would only play F02 out of extreme nostalgia

I wish they would come out and announce Fallout 4 already.
An announcement would be nice, but I'm willing to wait for a game as good as F3, which I consider to be the best of all-time.

New rumors regarding Fallout 4 say that the game will have just some average graphics on both next-generation consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Fallout 4 will be the first game that will run on the next-generation consoles but for some reason the game will most likely not come with the best graphics, even if both of the consoles have way better specs than their previous version and can run with ease some outstanding graphics.

But at the same time Bethesda is known for releasing games with awesome graphics and we’re pretty sure that they will bring some outstanding graphics on the upcoming Fallout 4, because if they won’t, they will most likely lose a good amount of players that have great expectations from this game.
Hogwash.

Still playing FO3 on my first go-round, though I've had less time to play it recently. I haven't advanced far into the main quest since I'm still having too much fun exploring and doing side quests, but I'd imagine I'll start advancing it soon since I hit Level 20 and won't be going any higher without that external hard drive to add the DLC to. This really is an awesome game, one of my favorites of all time. I still have a ton of the map to keep searching for. And even at Level 20, Deathclaws are still tough - I had a situation the other night where I was in a shootout with some Super Mutants, and who decided to jump me from behind and join the fray? Two friggin' Deathclaws and two Giant Radscorpions. To top it off it was in a radioactive area so there was quite a lot going on at the time, LOL

Don't know what platform you are playing FO3 on. But FO1 and 2 are PC-only. Isometric, third-person.

Keep in mind they came out in 97/98. Graphics were decent enough for that time (but not cutting edge), and, as mentioned, not a ton of voice acting - more reading than anything.

But the tactical combat was excellent - yes, think Xcom. The stories and sidequests are fun, and character development was good too - you could play both games without (directly) killing anyone if you wanted to.

I have a real fondness for both games, and recently replayed both. One of the few "old" games I can go back to and truly enjoy just for the game it is (and not just nostalgia).
