Tolbert was a beast yesterday (1 Viewer)

I know, I know there is another thread out there, but it has been hijacked many times and is no longer relevant.

Tolbert was a beast yesterday, Mathews is tentatively scheduled to come back this week.

How does this backfield shape out?

Do both guys have value going forward? Playing both against a porous OAK run D this week might be a sneaky play..

Both Tolbert and Mathews had value earlier in the year when both healthy, one by yardage and one by receptions and scores. Nothing changes. I would comfortably start either as a RB2 or flex - I would not count on either as a RB1 unless one of them does not play.

I agree. Tolbert was dropped in my auction league, I'm going to try like heck to get him. His upside is what you saw yesterday.

I thought this was already one of the more well-established RBBCs in the league.

(if both are healthy at the same time)

prob the same, Tolbert started the season beastly too. they've always known what they got.

Tolbert is a lot more elusive and quicker than you would expect given his build. He was generally used as a secondary battering ram, but now that his role has broadened those other skills are starting to show. He's also a great pass blocker.

Given Mathews' injury problems I think I would rather have Tolbert right now.

I remember a similar conversation around week 1. Matthews is the guy to own when both are healthy, but Tolbert is a solid bye week filler or low end RB2.

Matthews playing vs OAK. For the people who have him and Tolbert, are you starting either/both/neither?
I am starting both but if I had to chose one I would definitely go with Tolbert. With Mathews coming off the groin injury, I think Norv will go back to rotating them each series like he did at the beginning of the season. With an even # of series, Tolbert is the obvious choice due to him being the 3rd down back and goal line back. The only way I see Mathews outscoring Tolbert is if a) Mathews scores a TD from outside the red zone or b) Tolbert gets hurt during the game.

Have both - Starting Tolbert along with Demarco Murrey; who probably will also be spliting carries..

Yeah, 4.4 ypc against a defense that allows 4.6 ypc on average. Total Beast.

He did well with his 4 rec, but given that he had 9 targets, 4 rec isn't very impressive.

They will welcome Mathews back with open arms.

I might be doing the same thing since my RB are Murray, Tolbert, Matthews, Blount and Beanie and can only start two. Beanie is banged up pretty bad and not too sure about Blount vs. Texans defense. So if I start Tolbert then I'll probably be watching Matthews score left and right. Ugh.

Yep. Cause if they closed their arms around Mathews it may break something....

Tough to say what to do with him this week. Since Mathews took over, Tolbert's best games have been 58 yards/TD and 68 yards/TD. I think that's pretty much the upside you're looking at, with the potential for something like a 40-yard stinker. Awesome game last week, but I'm not thrilled about probably having to start him on Thursday.
