He has won 3 Superbowls, and been to a 4th after a perfect season. His playoff and regular season winning percentages are unmatched. He fought his way back from a season ending knee injury. He has had the best statistical season for a QB in history. He has beaten the best QBs head to head time and time again. He has won his games through changing offensive systems, and totally changing over of personel and players.

Yet, for some reason he is still thought of as "one of the best" playing today and is rarely mentioned as one of the best ever. The NFL network had him ranked about 15 spots BEHIND Peyton Manning in their top 100 player countdown. Are you serious?

Is it because of his pedigree, his excellent coach? Why does he still not get the respect he deserves?

"No respect"? He was ranked above John Elway and Dan Marino on the NFL Network list. Pretty weak  attempt.

To be fair, John Elway's career is tremendously overrated.

I am stabbing my eyes out after reading this.

Judging by the reactions so far, apparently others don't feel the same way I do. I'm not even a Brady fan. In fact, I'm an Eagles fan and he destroyed our shot at a title. I was just reading through the thread about the effect of losing Moss, and still don't think he gets the credit he deserves. Sorry if I'm :tinfoilhat: for some of you.

I heard this several times recently.

I think he hit a point where the expectations are so great that he is moreso not doing something special; not that he's not doing well but he's not standing out as surpassing what we've already seen and expect from him.

Recent games he's rocked and some have said as such, rightfully so. Peyton even praised his play last night on the NFLN post-game show.

In a normal week, 250, a couple TDs and a W just isn't enough anymore though. It was laid on so thick for so long, it had to get to this point though.

Did you think Peyton throwing for 300 was super awesome great? But how would you feel if Claussen threw for 300?

 Exactly. I think people are numb to his performance at this point. Once you throw for 4800/50 with a QB rating of 117+ for a SEASON, it's all downhill from there. If Brady can tack on another SB ring (and I see no reason why he can't given NE is already a serious contender as a young squad, The hoodie isn't going anywhere, ...AND they still have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds next year)... I say he's got a serious chance at moving into the top 1 or 2 of all time. There will always be people who look at manning as he's completely rewritten the record books. 54k vs 34k yards... 392 TD vs 252 TD...etc.... in 2 additional years. However when it's all said and done, I think people will recognize the real greatness is in the Titles, the Postseason records, etc. We'll see. Rather than arguing over who's greatest... we should probably just kick back and enjoy the fact that we're getting to watch two of THE GREATEST compete week in and week out.

Yeah and the NFL redid the schedules with alignment many years ago. We probably were looking at the Colts facing the Pats once every 3-4 years instead of twice a year within the AFC east. Instead it's worked out to at least one match-up almost every year since.

Big whip. Terry Bradshaw is 4-0 in Superbowls, not 3-1. Clearly, Terry Bradshaw is a better QB than Tom Brady.

Elway is the best QB ever and I am a Steelers homer.

I think McNabb's choking did that, but Brady had a hell of fame tho..

Yaknow, when I first saw this thread title I thought it was going to be about how this underheralded Brady guy was having a fantastic FF season.

Right now he is no. 2 in two leagues I have him in, after Rodgers.

I thought I had overpaid in my auction league for him. Turned out I did not.

He just killed the Jets in a supposedly possibly poor matchup. He did the same to the Steelers.

I wonder how many drafted him accordingly. I'm guessing many saw him as a 5-8 tier FF QB.

The Patriots as a team don't get the respect they deserve. There were people who seriously thought they'd struggle to even make the playoffs this year.

In my league (4pts/TD 1pt/25yds -2int) he has had7 mediocre to avg games (10-15 pts)2 good games (22 pts)3 great games (29-32)Those 3 great games have been three of the last four weeks. I know we have short memories, but those games have vaulted him all the way to 5th* in my league. I wont play the "take those games away" card, because that is silly. However those games do mask a rather unspectacular majority of his season. :unsure:As far as fantasy goes, those 7 games are a huge detriment when speaking of the investment that Brady took either in traditional draft or bidding IMO. Is the 5th* best QB what you paid for? * Admittedly there are 3 other QB's all within about 9 points, Brady being the bottom of that group. Rodgers well out in front, Peyton, Vick, Rivers. Obviously you would have paid a good deal for Rodgers or Peyton as well. Vick was FA, Rivers could have been had cheaper, and even Kyle Orton is within striking distance.

Don't confuse football with basketball. Football has 22 starters (even excluding special teams) while basketball has only 5 starters.

Take a look at Big Bens playoff and regular season winning percentages before you say Brady's is "unmatched".

In the 2 leagues I have him (6 pts/TD, 1pt/25 yds, -1 for sacks/INT/FL), he comes in 2nd (excluding Manning's game) behind Rodgers. Using average points he comes in 3rd behind Vick at 1st, Rodgers in 2nd. It's true that there were four weeks in a row in the middle after getting rid of Moss - but that was unforseen, and there was not one "bad" game in the bunch. In the final 5 weeks he has been the best (considering Rodgers had a bye week 10) outside the ridiculous Vick (and he has actually outscore Vick last 2 weeks in a row and pretty much matched him the week before that). He has been better to way better than Manning 5 of the last 6 weeks. If there was a time to get hot for a FF QB that's it.

If you're talking about Brady as an NFL QB this is a silly discussion. No way he's underrated. In fact, I would say he's just about rated -- he gets all sorts of accolades, and he deserves them.

If you're talking about him as a fantasy QB, that's a closer call. Before '07 he was a decent, not great, QB. Then he had a season for the ages in '07. Then he got injured in '08. Then he came back in '09, and whether because he was still recovering or because of the rib injury he suffered, he was only so-so.

The funny thing is before my draft, I started to think he might be slightly underrated because of last year, though I also thought that in my league -- which has some decidedly non-diehard owners -- it was probably impossible for him to be overrated.

But lo and behold, by the middle of the fourth round, there were only two of what I considered the "Big 7" QBs left: Brady and Rivers. I took Brady, and for the first part of the season was regretting it. As it turns out, they're now almost exactly even according to my league's scoring (20 yds/pt, 6pts/TD, 0.25pt/completion).

All of which goes to say I think he was overrated last season, underrated heading into this year, and probably slightly overrated after the last couple games. But for the first time, he's demonstrated he can be a top fantasy QB even without Moss.

P.S. Oh, and I'm still considering benching him for Flacco this week.

Yeah, you're right, what could Terry Bradshaw possibly know about football...

Gisele, is this you writing in the shark pool again?

I have to think that Brady just simply has a high tool-factor working against him, and because of it people look for reasons to knock him down a couple pegs. He works at his image a little too much. Compare to Manning - who is the ultimate in humility and Montana who was also married to a hottie and yet came across as so much cooler. Brady just will never compare. Is there a great QB who cared more about his image?

The only way these threads stop is when they get replaced by the "Sam Bradford, why no respect?" and "Bradford vs Stafford - who is better?" threads that will start in a couple more seasons.

I would say Namath, but I don't consider him great. If you got the kind of media coverage he gets--mainly because of his success and his (incredible) love-life--you would be very careful with your image also. Granted I'm a Pats fan, but the guy does show up to play every year, keeps himself in tremendous football shape, obviously works as hard in the film room to learn as any QB there is (and I love Manning for that: he knows what the defense is doing better than they do most times), and just wants to win.

Does it matter? Love him or hate him, Brady is a superstar, championship-winning quarterback who is married to probably the most successful supermodel of the era. He's obviously been blessed with good looks, and he'd be a fool to turn down the easy money that comes with modeling/marketing. In the end, he keeps his nose clean, he's a great teammate and a great leader, and he's one of the toughest and best quarterbacks players in the NFL.

Don't understand this at all. Just because he grew out the hair?

If you are talking about ads and image - I can't watch a commercial break or open up a magazine without seeing a Manning staring at me. Hell, back in the SB run didn't he tell the companies that he would do ads only if his OL were in there with him? I think for the most part Tom keeps to himself, does the work, and excels greatly at what he does. Can't fault him for what he looks like or who he's married to.

Also, I know I am a P.Manning hater, but can we please stop this 'ultimate in humility' crap with him? I've heard him throw teammates under the bus after losses. When things are going bad, he seems to pout on the sidelines more than anybody else (except for maybe his brother), and overall I hate watching him play b/c it seems like he has little enjoyment of it. I know this is a hijack, but Peyton comes across as the boy who always got it his way and is pissed when he doesn't.
