Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (1 Viewer)

[post=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NO0rArJRR4]History of Rap part 5

I started watching Fallon when he first got his talk show but gave up after a couple of weeks. So far the Tonight Show has been decent, especially with his skits, but I don't see watching for long. Kimmel is still the best.

Timberlake was on last night...he was the only guest...I wish he was a weekly guest, the dude is always money.

Watched his show from Wednesday and Thursday. While I think his musical stuff is typically good, and his skits can be funny (although the ew skit was cringeworthy), I think his monologue and interviewing are really bad. I can't imagine Leno's audience is going to stick around long.

I hope it works out because he comes across and genuine and appreciative.

Have not watched a single second of it. Doubt I will catch Myers much either other than clips. No cable so Conan is also someone I never see. These shows are just chances for the movie stars/celebrities to pitch whatever it is they have for the audience to spend money on, kind of insincere interviews.

Pretty much how I feel. I like the guy even if I don't think he's hilarious. His monologues aren't that good. I haven't been interested in any of his guests yet to sit through interviews. His skits are good so far, haven't seen the ew skit yet but liked the charades bit. I'll give him a little more time. Might give Furgeson a shot if I give up on Fallon.

Comparing Fallon and Kimmel, I kind of feel Fallon creates viral videos whereas Kimmel just points them out. Kimmel puts out videos too but he's not really the focal point. Basically Fallon can do what Kimmel does but not the other way around.

I think the History of Rap videos are great . Fallon can really hang with Timberlake which is impressive.

It gets increasingly difficult to do these shows as the public's interests grows increasingly fragmented. Hard to make jokes when only 1/3rd of your audience gets the reference.

You might like Ferguson, then. He just has conversations with guests and doesn't let them do much more than mention their projects.

Last night Paul Rudd was on, and he and Fallon had a lip sync battle...it was ok, but nowhere near as good as when Fallon, Stephen Merchant and Joseph Gorden Levitt did one on the Late Show a few months back.

Merchant kills in this battle, especially in the 2nd round:

:lmao: :lmao:
Seriously can't stand Fallon for monologue or interviews since he sucks at those, but his games and skits are amazing

Yeah saw that battle on the Best Of Late shows they were airing during the break. Good stuff there. Those Best Of's were pretty hysterical, I hadn't seen much of the skits because I was heavy Ferguson for a while. The TV show spoofs are great too.

What's with the guy from U2 sitting on the back of the couch? Doesn't like black people?

Strange
Mullen had to be out of the way so that The Edge and Clayton could wield guitars on the couch for their "spontaneous" rendition of Ordinary Love...

Bill Cosby tonight was one of the strangest things I've ever seen on a talk show. Just bizarre.
Ya that's what I was thinking. Kinda liked it though.

Caught a bit of Shakira the night before....no way she was singing, right? Some parts looked off. What a farce people like that are if true.

She was singing but it sounded like parts of of the background vocals and chorus were a recorded track.

I saw the video and look at some of the lyrics and watch her mouth. They don't add up.

She appears not to open her mouth fully (perverts) for the lyric that comes out (again, you perverts)

Apologize if this is a honda, but these are hysterical:

Brian Williams (NBC News) rapping

Good Vibrations - Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch

Regulate - Warren G

Ain't Nothin But a G Thing. - Snoop Dogg

Rapper's Delight - Sugar Hill Gang

There are more out there.

Jimmy Fallon dropped by “NBC Nightly News” for one of his last interviews before officially debuting as the new host of NBC's “Tonight Show” on Monday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
The interview will air Monday night and apparently Fallon had a big announcement for the program's anchor, Brian Williams.

Fallon created videos of Williams rapping – spliced together from the anchor's own words during news broadcasts. The videos, as you would expect, were very popular and went viral.

We have another one coming up for opening week of ‘Tonight Show’ that we're saving,” Fallon told Williams, who asked if it would feature him again.

Fallon assured him, “Who else would we do it with?”

The flattered journalist said that his social team still sees people who are just discovering the rap mashup videos every day.

Why is Stevie Nicks going on a show like this and performing? Her voice is shot.

Eta: just realized Fleetwood Max is touring....but oof she's lost it.

Can anyone tell me why Letterman is revered? I imagine it is justly so. By the time I came of age he was already doing the CBS show. Never really grabbed me. Neither did Leno.

Was Letterman's NBC show in the 80's something that groundbreaking and influential?

Leno get's pummeled yet the feeling I get is that he would have been on the Mt. Rushmore of stand-ups for his generation yet instead he went after the Tonight Show and in turn was #1 his whole career. Never heard Letterman was a great stand-up. Not a hosting gig but Leno did beat him, at least ratings-wise, his entire career.

I'm not a Leno fan but I tend to think he's underrated in the grand scheme of things.

When Letterman burst onto the scene with the Late Show he was a revelation. It got to the point there were people afraid to go on his show because of his caustic wit. He probably stayed too long but at one time he was certainly all that.

The late night landscape was completely different when Letterman debuted in the early 80s. NBC had Carson and ABC had Nightline but modern viewers wouldn't recognize the rest of late night programming. CBS ran heavily edited reruns of detective shows. Independent stations ran whatever or went dark. There were no cable networks to speak of.

Letterman replaced Tom Snyder who originally who did long-format interview on a deskless set but had been forced into an odd co-hosting format with Rona Barrett by the end of his run. Letterman was completely different in large part because he kept the trappings of a talk show but veered off into material that was subversive for its day.

Should mention I loved Tom Snyder's show.

Alright, alright, alright, I'll go with that. I'll but that for a dollar

As long as they get people that are truly into it this should be really good.

Still amazed how good Fallon is on this - hated almost everything he did on SNL. Late show was decent but on too late for me to watch it much.
