Tony Pike the future in Carolina? (1 Viewer)

Touchdown There

Many of you are Clausen believers. I am not on that list. I think he had a good surrounding cast at Notre Dame. The word on the street is that he is a d-bag of Lienart levels. Matt Moore seems like a really good backup QB to me. He can perform well when the pressure is off and he needs to fill in. He has not shown the leadership and judgment to be "the guy" for the Panthers.

Naturally, this moves the conversation to Tony Pike. No matter how bad the first two guys do in 2010, it may not be the right move to start Pike this year. Pike is loved by the locker room and led Cinn to twelve 2009 Bearcat victories and their second straight BCS game.

Can any Bearcat fans give more info on Pike? He seems like a late season pickup in dynasty leagues.

It is now late season...betting Pike gets the start on Sunday. If you have room on a Dynasty roster, carpe diem.

(FFToday) The Carolina Panthers are 1-7 and the guy coach John Fox thought gave him the "best chance to win" won't get another chance. Quarterback Matt Moore was placed on injured reserve Monday, leaving the Panthers nothing but rookies at the moment. Now, Fox said he'd pick between Jimmy Clausen and fellow rookie Tony Pike to start Sunday's game at Tampa Bay, and likely the rest of the season. They'll bring in another quarterback Tuesday, expected to be former St. Louis emergency starter Keith Null.

Analysis: The Panthers' passing game wasn't exactly lighting it up with Moore under center, but at least he was able to allow Steve Smith to be usable in fantasy. Clausen made three starts earlier this season and did not pass for more than 188 yards in any of those contests. As a result, the entire passing game of the Panthers' figures to be a fantasy wasteland.

Jimmy Claussen will start on Sunday that is a guarantee from this Panther Fan. Tony Pike looks like a deer in headlights in the limited time he has seen on the field. Claussen will be the man the rest of the year unless he get's injured which is VERY likely.

I think it's a riskier than normal dynasty stash because Fox is out next year and Hurley may be too. It seems to me that more than any other position, QB is one that coaches have "their guys" (ie. Delhomme). So if you like Pike as a prospect, pick him up. But if you're guessing that starting over Clausen this week is an indication of next year, I'd advise caution.

I dont trust Pike to stay healthy. He isnt big enough to take hits. Also a little concerned with his ability to read defenses and go through his progresions. The offense at Cincinnati was stacked against for the most part inferior defenses. I just dont know that he makes the leap. He can throw the ball well though, so he has a punchers chance.

From a huge Bearcats homer so take with a grain of salt-

At UC, Pike had a great mix of being able to make the throws, knowing the right throw to make, and good size. He seemed to make a big play every time we needed one. The main knock on him would be that Cincy plays far from a pro-style offense. He rarely went under center. Also, I would be happy to hear that he "has" the Carolina locker room, but it is somewhat surprising to me. He was definitely a leader on the field with his play here, but I think it pretty much ended there.

Overall, I think he is pretty polished and ready to be decent in the NFL very soon, possibly even now. I think he has a limited ceiling though as other young players probably have more long term potential for improvement.

If you are giving me the "guarantee", Pike is certain to get the nod!

John Fox announced Clausen as the starter about three days ago. Pike may play, but he won't start. For what it's worth, I didn't think Pike looked that bad last week...I'll admit that I was zoning out a little bit at that point though, since the Panthers were getting destroyed.

The QB that gives the Panthers the best chance to win right now is probably listed as a WR on their team.
