I don't know that you can include Harris in there without having Terrance Newman on the listChampmathissheppardharrisa. rolleopinions?
To be perfectly honest I think D Hall is terribly over-hyped.In two years, you can add Jonathan Joseph to this list.D Hall not on this list? Or McAllister?
agreed, but where's mcallister and clements? To be perfectly honest I think D Hall is terribly over-hyped.In two years, you can add Jonathan Joseph to this list.D Hall not on this list? Or McAllister?
Please tell me this was a typo or you suddenly shifted into "Worst Corners in the NFL" frame of thought.
I think Samuel is a top 5.Asante Samuel's agent is reading this thread and is not getting all warm and fuzzy.
Yeah, probably should have had him in the top 5 instead of mathis...I think there's a dropoff after six.I agree with others that Hall is overrated.Asante Samuel's agent is reading this thread and is not getting all warm and fuzzy.
Samuel is most certaintly not a top 5.David Yudkin said:Asante Samuel's agent is reading this thread and is not getting all warm and fuzzy.
Anthony Henry? is this supposed to be most overpaid?bcr8f said:Top 10 in PD lst season. Asante Samuel Anthony Henry Chris McAlister Champ Bailey Charles Woodson Walt Harris Johnathan Joseph Rashean Mathis Nnamdi Asomugha Nate Clements
Last I heard, Asante was asking for $10M a year and the Pats were offering $6M. He apparently still thinks he's worth a lot more than the $7.8M franchise tender . . .I'm glad to see some of the hype on Samuel has died down. Around the end of the season, everyone was saying top 3-5.
Certainly, but I doubt that Asante is being very objective.Last I heard, Asante was asking for $10M a year and the Pats were offering $6M. Mostly by D. Hall himself.Seriously, I don't get the deal with Hall and the media. It's like they automatically take everything he says at face value without applying any rational thought to the matter.albert hammond jr. said:To be perfectly honest I think D Hall is terribly over-hyped.doowain said:In two years, you can add Jonathan Joseph to this list.D Hall not on this list? Asanta Samuel had a great year last year, but what makes it so hard to rank corners is that, outside of maybe 3 guys, how many are great EVERY year? I mean, lots of corners have an awesome season here or there, but there are maybe 3 CBs in the entire NFL who are consistantly great season after season (Bailey, McAllister, Barber, imo).Whenever I'm ranking CBs, in my mind there's a top three- Bailey, Barber, McAllister, in that order- and then after that there's a handful of guys who have had a great year or two and who could potentially one day be on that list of consistant performers- guys like Terrance Newman, Rashean Mathis, Asante Samuel, Nnamdi Asomugha, Lito Sheppard (he'd be on the other list if he hadn't gotten hurt in 2005 and/or if he'd been a bit more consistant last year, because he was great in 2004), Pacman (probably the second best CB in the league last year, after Champ), etc.David Yudkin said:Asante Samuel's agent is reading this thread and is not getting all warm and fuzzy.
Man, before I read this post, I was about to go off on the fact that nobody had named Barber yet. Sure, he doesn't have the flashy man-coverage skills, but he's the prototypical Cover2 CB, and with the Cover2 all the rage recently, that's a very valuable commodity. If my team was running a cover2, and I had my choice of any CB other than Champ, I'd take Barber. He's one of those guys that is a joy to watch making an open-field stop, and his skill as a passrusher gives his coordinator unheard of flexibility. I think he might only have one or two elite years left in him before he starts the slide (I think he'll be one of the top5 safeties in the league a couple of years from now, if he makes the move), but if we're just talking about picking a guy for one game, Barber's gotta be up there. If there's ever a Bucs game on, I'll watch it (not when they have the ball, though) just for Barber and Brooks. Also, Nnamdi Asomugha is another name that hasn't been getting enough love. With Pacman so obviously self-destructive and such a huge risk, I'd call Asomugha the best young CB in the league.why no love for Ronde Barber?... maybe not the coverage technician, but tackling is superb and makes tons of plays like forced fumbles n such. Nnamdi Asomugha is the next up-n-comer and deserves top-5 imo. He doesn't get too much publicity, but that will change. Marcus Trufant is will considered top-5 in the next few years.
DeAngelo Hall?He couldn't cover you in a phoneboothI'll go with my 5 in a ranking that I don't want my wr to go aginst.1) Champ2) McCallister3) Clements4) D. Hall5) D. Robinson(edit: Pac Man would have been #5 if he was playing)
This is a good point. I didn't include in him my top five because most would argue that the "best" corners excel in man coverage, which is Barber's only weakness. Given that Barber is one of the best playmaking zone corners in the league and is likely the best run supporting corner in the league, he definitely deserves mention.Although he's been inconsistent and vilified by some homers (a little unfairly IMO), Charles Tillman isn't far behind Ronde Barber in the best zone corner/run supporter discussion.why no love for Ronde Barber?... maybe not the coverage technician, but tackling is superb and makes tons of plays like forced fumbles n such.
What about Fred Thomas???
