Top 5 Favorite Redford Films (2 Viewers)

Here goes:
  • The Sting
  • The Natural
  • Sneakers
  • All the Presidents Men

I haven't seen any of the other heralded stuff prior to the Sting/All the Presidents Men. Might be the occasion to give them a shot.

I realize now, despite my age, I seem to have not seen the bulk of his greatest movies. Shame on me.

Of the ones I have seen: The Natural, Sneakers, Spy Game, Winter Soldier (is this cheating?) are ones I have enjoyed.

  1. The Way We Were
  2. All the President’s Men
  3. Three Days of the Condor
  4. Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid
  5. The Sting
  6. The Great Gatsby
  7. The Natural
  8. The Candidate
  9. Jeremiah Johnson
  10. Barefoot in the Park
  11. Sneakers
  12. Out of Africa

And as a Director
  1. A River Runs Through It
  2. The Horse Whisperer
  3. Quiz Show
  4. Ordinary People
  5. The Legend of Bagger Vance

Surprised Buch & Sundance would not make everyone's top 5, if I were president that would be my first executive order to immeidately add this to the top spot of every list. Sorry for being political but this is too important a topic.
Never seen it so I couldn't put it on my list.

I haven't seen Butch/Sundance or the The Sting in their entirety. If I did, I was only 7 or 8 years old anyway. I'll have to rewatch them.

He almost got cast as the lead in The Graduate. In the book, the character is a very waspy guy. But when the director asked Redford what it felt like to strike out with a woman, Redford had to ask, "what do you mean?"

I suspect that was a very foreign concept to him.

a river runs through it butch cassidy and the sundance kid jermiah johnson the natural and for reasons unclear even to myself and the big kahuna from down under up above an unfinished life take that to the bank brochachos

an unfinished life starred robert redford jennifer lopez morgan freeman cameryn manheim steamroller and josh lucas the home despot guy and yes that sounds like a total trainwreck but again for reasons unclear i liked it take that to the bank bromigos

I might be the only person that thinks The Natural sucks. But he made some great movies ... 1) The Sting 2) Jeremiah Johnson 3) Butch Cassidy 4) All Is Lost 5) Old Man & the Gun

My personal favorites

1. The Natural
2. The Sting
3. All The Presidents Men
4. Jeremiah Johnson
5. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Quiz Show as far his director chair stuff.

Hard to believe he never won a single Oscar for acting. Literally zero for that. Only for behind the camera.

1. The Sting
2. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
3. Jeremiah Johnson
4. The Way We Were
5. Sneakers

If there were 3 more in the top 5, I would add
Three Days of the Condor, The Great Gatsby, and Barefoot in the Park.

The Great Waldo Pepper is streaming on Netflix for the rest of September. That was a 1st time watcch for me and I have to say I loved it. Redford plays of a group of barnstormers and it follows his/their adventures. It's not based on any particular pilot but is kind of an amalgamation of the most famous pilots of the era. It's a hangout movie with lots of pretty incredible stunts. A very young Susan Sarandon is here too as Mary Beth McIlhenny The It Girl of the Sky. Written by William Goldman and directed by George Roy Hill. It's downright shocking this is on Netflix right now. A good and relatively less seen 70s movie? I hope they do that more often.
