Top 5 Popular Musical Artists/Bands You Don't LIke - Spinoff of top 5 (1 Viewer)

Oh, no. That's...well, I don't know what to say. If they start talking about Avril Lavigne in hushed tones, then I guess you know.
I am in the heartland brother- maybe the cool kids on the coasts see irony in everything, but over here we got a lot genuine love for Journey, the Crue and late 90s rock.

We grow Korn out here.

I have spun the 1975 Journey record at least five times in a row.  I love it.  It's like old Pink Floyd with a sprinkle of the Who.  Why did they hire Steve Perry and ruin the band?  Oh yeah, $$$.

some i'm surprised didn't get mentioned more, or at all:

Oasis

Smashing Pumpkins

Marilyn Manson

the Strokes

Velvet Underground

Talking Heads

McCartney & Wings

Yes

Ramones (love 'em to death, but they ain't for eveyone)

James Taylor

The Smiffs

not that i hate any of 'em, or think they deserve mention (except for Talking Heads  :X  #### Byrne and his artsyfartsy ####), but with some of the bands/artists i have seen mentioned, it's interesting that those above were spared thus far.

I am going to have to spin "Kohoutek" in the car.  Incredible jam.  Dunbar's drumming is incredible.  Great guitar solo as well.

Can't blame the guys from wanting to make some bucks.  BTW, they did record some good albums with Perry.

I could listen to this song on repeat all day and not get sick of it

My favorite too.

Talking Heads are an odd duck for me.  Some of their stuff I love to pieces (Remain in Light, Fear of Music and a lot of Speaking in Tongues), and some of their stuff I think is dog crap (most of the early stuff that is a bit too punk for me).

Feel the same. This song is incredible.  But the rest of the album it's on (can't remember which one) just isn't for me.

Springsteen

Seger

Nirvana

Cars (Crazy thing is, I absolutely love, "You're All I've Got Tonight"). Otherwise, :toilet:

U2 (Another crazy thing, easily the best live show I ever attended)

:banned:

Not all of Dead's music is the psychedelic stuff people associate with it. Here's one of my favorites.  Surprise, less than 6 minutes.  This is just good old American music.  I don't even know what category it is.  And while Jerry is the star of the band, many songs really feature the talents of other band members.  Listen to Brent playing keys on this one.
enjoyed this much more than i thought ... the keys were pretty damn sweet

will be digging deeper over the weekend as an accompaniment to  :banned:  and   :coffee:

:o

ok, im'ma never gonna be high listening to them - just do booze now, and was never a weed smoker, anyways.

does it matter?

i'm talking like on the Pink Floyd level, where one almost has to be trippin' to really "get it"

now i'm intrigued ... maybe in my mellower state i could dig their studio work

also, i always appreciated Apple Jack's spin on music related topics ... didn't always agree, but he always had interesting things to say and recommend ... and he swore by Jerry

:hifive:

The entire show that PIK linked is great.

I think there was a lot of crossover with Santana's band. That guy was always one that for the most part kept the quality up and the cheese factor down.

I like everything (including songs from these artists); these are just acts that I don’t appreciate as much as most critics:

Kendrick Lamar

Arcade Fire

Prince

Sex Pistols

Pink Floyd

Aerosmith - yeah Walk This Way, Last Child and Dream on are really good, but other than that, they just seem so average and bland and their later catalog is kind of crap

Bon Jovi

KISS - take away the gimics and it’s just a mediocre hard rock band

Insane Clown Posse - just anybody actually like their music or do they just want to belong to some weird clique?

Red Hot Chili Peppers

hon mention: Def Leppard - every song seems like the Mutt Lange formula, Green Day, Pearl Jam - they seem decent enough, but their popularity is very disproportionate to their talent IMHO, Dave Mathews Band - if I could force myself to listen to more their music, they might break to top 5..I just haven’t heard enough to fully judge then, Coldplay

I mentioned my top five earlier--but here is a supplement of sorts.  I know that these names aren't as big as most that are being mentioned here--but I will post them on here for kicks. Basically any time any of these artists come up on the radio--I switch stations immediately.

Fallout Boy

Panic at the Disco

Florence and the Machine

of monsters and men--  they are talented musicians--but I'm just not a fan of renaissance fair music.

Katy Perry

Radiohead - Really liked The Bends, can't stand the albums after that

Bon Jovi - Like Sambora's playing, but that's about it.

Steely Dan - Don't know what it is, I can't change the station fast enough when one of their songs comes on

Pet Shop Boys - They were big when I was growing up, seen them listed as a top 40 all-time pop band - hated 'em then, hate 'em now

Drake - He's a proxy for anyone currently on the Billboard top 100, pretty much.   But I hope he rots in Hell for unleashing that horrendous "God's Plan" on humanity.

Good topic.  Interesting to see artists that I thought would have been beyond reproach mentioned multiple times.
Steely Dan has such a unique sound

those Mu Major chords are interesting, but I can see where some might find it a little abrasive

Man.  I really liked you until I read this list. Maybe music just ain’t your bag...
If you think me liking Miles Davis, Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, Widespread Panic, Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Phish and Prince among others makes music not my bag I don’t really care. People should like what they like and not really worry what anyone else thinks.

I was just joking.  Music is completely subjective.

He is our Mozart, favorite artist of my lifetime, but there's a LOT of dreck in that catalogue
I haven't heard a lot of his stuff, but Purple Rain is as great as people say; fantastic record from start to finish.

On the flip side, I don't see Sign 'o' the Times as the masterpiece that many make it out to be. I find that album really spotty, although its highs are really good.

I tried some of his pre-1999 material a while back after hearing how great it supposedly was, but almost all of it was a bit miss for me.

Prince wouldn't come close to making my favorite artists list, but he wouldn't come close to making my artists I don't like list either.
