Top five early QBs (1 Viewer)

Read this in the roundtable discussion today, but couldn't comment on it:

"...clearly the owners that waited for Ryan in the fourth round or Griffin later are the odds on favorites to dominate leagues this year; particularly when you compound that with the stunningly slow starts for first rounders Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Drew Brees, to say nothing of the early disappointments in Matthew Stafford and Cam Newton."

It's funny, because every single website that talks about FF has mentioned Brees in the same category as the other "top five" QBs this season, and the fact is, he's not even close to the busts the other guys were.

After the first week, he ranked 5th at the position (using FBG's scoring system, no less); after week two, he ranked 4th; and now, he ranks 4th after three weeks. And folks generally have him ranked in the top three projected points again this week, yet they continue to lump him in with the rest of the early QBs.

Not sure what leauge you guys play in where the NFL team the players you drafted going 0-3 is such a huge point deduction.

Yes, his YPA is down, Colston is just now getting healthy, and he's taken a lot of sacks. (And by "a lot," I mean "Way more than normal, and as many as Brady, but far fewer than Rodgers has.") But the fact is, Brees is still on pace for 4800 yards and 37 TDs, which is about what I (and FBG, three weeks ago) projected him for anyway.

Yeah - I saw that as well & it didn't seem right.. Seems like he's getting lumped in with Rodgers & Brady but Brees has been more than fine thus far..

Well it's two things I think:

One: Saints are 0-3, so part of the fear probably doesn't actually exist and is an extension of how bad the team has been on the whole.

Two: In the preseason he was considered one of the Top 5. Him, Rodgers, Brady, Cam and Stafford. Considering how bad the other four have been so far Brees should be ranked #1 right now. If the other 4 come on and Brees stays the way he's playing, he likely falls to the bottom of the top 10.

I have no idea what you just wrote - Brees is #3 in my league & if he keeps this up.. how will he fall to 10th QB? - this didn't make much sense unless I'm missing something

Well, I'll explain then. In my league he is 4th right now. He's not playing lights out by any means. What I'm saying is that he is currently behind RG3, Matt Ryan and Big Ben in my league. Granted, Ben will obviously slide down. RG3 and Matt Ryan seem like they can continue their production. If they continue their current production, and so does Brees we'll say that would put Brees in 3rd. However, if Brady, Rodgers, Cam and Stafford were all to get back into their past seasons form he'd drop. The reason I say this is the Patriots, Packers and Lions aren't playing all that bad where the Saints look awful. If Rodgers, Brady and Stafford were to begin out producing Brees you'd see the end of the season end somewhere likeRG3RyanRodgersBradyStaffordBreesMaking Brees somewhere between 6-10. Also known as the bottom of the top 10. Obviously this is all pure speculation based on Rg3, Ryan and Brees continuing their current production rates and Brady, Stafford and Rodgers getting back to last seasons form. Also to note: Brees has played the bottom basement of passing defenses so far this season. It's possible his production slows when he sees better secondary play. Where as the other three have seen a little bit worse matchups in their favor. Especially Rodgers.

I guess that makes sense. Still, it makes more sense to actually rag on the guy after he stinks it up. But I guess since that's what every other site is doing, the "herd mentality" of FF experts is still in full effect.

We'll see how he does against an angry GB squad that's leading the leauge in passing D this week; if he throws for 300 yards and 2-3 TDs, the experts can officially be mocked.

With Sproles in the backfield running & receiving, a sub-par defense and good WR's, Brees will be very good, it doesn't matter if the Saints win or lose in regards to Bree's fantasy numbers, the worse the defense, the more points Brees will score!!!!
