Trade ethics 101 (1 Viewer)

Our initial keeper league draft is coming up in about month. I got lucky enough to get 1.1. The guy at #8 overall has made several offers to me.

I've made it a practice to always give an explanation of why I decline and usually what it'd take as a common courtesy (even if there's probably a 2% chance I'll deal the rights to Peterson away). So I do this here and the guy tells me in response good luck on someone accepting something like that. HE has initiated every offer. Keep in mind I've not sent a single trade offer for 1.1 to anyone. Nor do I plan to.

I just found extremely extremely weak of the other owner to try and rip me based on an email response to an offer HE made. I'm debating now in the future on whether I should even comment in response to deals. If this guy was so satisfied at the 8 spot, why has he had 3-4 attempts in the past week to move up to 1? It's gotten to the point now he sounds like a used car dealer trying to sell me a pile of trash. (It's not my first time at the rodeo guy, I know what's available at 1.8. No need to talk it up...it ain't changing my decision)

What's the best course of action here? Do the majority of people send responses to trade offers they receive? Should I just reject on the spot and say nothing? Really leaning toward the latter from now on in the future.

Was this Chris Basler? ;)

If I get an offer and I choose to decline it I try to always comment. I'll say something like: "just not interested."

If you send a counter or ideas of what it would take then it only keeps them hopeful. If you really wanted to just trade you would of proposed a real trade right?

LOL I don't know who that is, but I've found with some owners, my comments go in one ear and out the other. I play in a Zealots league and won't name the owner, but the guy offered me Kevin Jones for Michael Turner for over a year....I flat out told him I have zero interest in Kevin Jones, now or ever. I'd still decline probably once/week (and I'm not exaggerating here). Thank god Jones is finally unemployed as the offers have stopped for the time being.I'll probably do more of the 'just not interested'. I told him flat out that I'm unlikely to deal Peterson before draft day, but gave in writing what I'd be looking for. If I decide to deal before then, I'll make the offer.

I usually leave some sort of message response. Even if the offer is insulting, I'm fine with a simple "No thanks". I feel that everyone should be viewed as a future trading partner, no matter how bad some of the deals are that they send, so I always try to leave the door open for all possibilites. That said, there should be nothing wrong with simply saying nothing in return. He initiated it, and you've given him his answer in a timely matter. Case closed.

But I hear ya. I do hate it when I get their analysis on why I'm wrong for declining. Helps me a lot guy  . Or better yet, the "You're crazy for turning that down".

The best thing to do is look at the roster of the owner who proposed the deal, and send him a counter offer. That will let him know how far off he is, and he may give up on trying to deal for the 1.1.

So wrong....

As a 'frequent trader' in three separate leagues over many years, i've responded with everything to a simple "no, thanks, I'm not goona trade him", to proposing potential counter offers. Each different owners will react differently to trade rejections, just like each of us as a unique personality: some are great guys, others are rude or demeaning.

You just keep doing what you feel is right for the situation and don't let anyone get to you. If you treat enough of them with respect and courtesy, you will have plenty of trading partner.

I'm know as a big trader, so I dont mind any offers. I always respond as to why i dont like an offer and hope to engage in talks just to get an idea of what the other owner is looking for. I did have an owner send me the same offer over and over so then I stopped responding. This season, everyone is trying to steal Barber, and altho I reject all the offers, I now know which players are in play. Part of a rejection is to try to explain why the other is "wrong". I wouldnt be insulted by it, but if an owner gets annoying just inform him that all his emails will now go directly to the trash bin for the next month....LOL

Basler here....Sean... you're in trouble! Go play with Lance Earl....The other two guys... Hi... Sorry Sean's a putz. Lance Earl doesn't let him out of his box often and when he does, Sean tends to randomly lash out at people...Trivia: Sean is the Gimp from Pulp Fiction....Go Bears!

I don't think Peterson will be available at 1.1. Might want to look at the WR position there. Or, trade with the guy for #8 because it moves you up two spots as long as it is reasonable.

Pretty sure I never said that.. I said with your mediocre squad... I'd never trade you Shockey unless it was for an upgrade. The only player at TE or WR that imo was an upgrade, was LT and I didn't have the extras to get LT. Maybe the dyslexia is getting worse for ya.
