Trading Draft Picks? (1 Viewer)

This year, for the first time, my league decided to determine the draft order a few weeks in advance. As such, it is also the first time that we've allowed the trading of draft picks.

I've found this to be a difficult process, as trading picks seems to always have negative and positive ramifications, unlike a player trade where the best trades make both people happy. So far, I've only made one trade, giving up 2.06, 3.07, and 5.07 for 2.01, 3.12, and 5.12. I thought that this was a decent trade that helped me move up to grab another top player in the early second. When I start to think about it more though, it makes me wait a huge time between my 2nd and 3rd and 4th and 5th, which could leave some tough decisions to make.

So, I guess that all leads to the question. What are some tips for trading picks? What is a good strategy for working trades to ensure you get the best draft order possible.

Is it a live draft? If there is a few hours in between picks there can be more trades. If there is a guy you like that is last in a tier then you may want to jump up and take him. If there are a number of guys you like where you are picking then you may drop a little. If there are only minutes in between picks, then you have to go by ADP. If there is a group of guys you don't like in a particular round then you can drop out of that round or trade up ahead of time. However, the draft never seems to flow along the ADP, so it's hard to guess who might be there.

1. Know your league tendencies so you can predict where players are going to fall. Do your leaguemates tend to overvalue any position? Jump on rookies early?2. Create your tiers. Position yourself in the draft to grab the last player in your top tier of WR, QB, etc. Maybe build in a cushion of a few picks to head off surprises.
