I have played in a dynasty league for 7 years now. Actually my first introduction to FF. Never played redraft, but my brothers league (12 team) had an opening and I jumped in. $75 buy-in, which is actually a bit rich for my tastes (I know, not typical FBG coin).

I know why/how trading works in dynasty, trying to win now, finding young players who may break out, stockpiling draft pick to rebuild etc.

What I'm struggling with is why/how to think through trading in redraft. Is it about trading away guys who you think have overperformed, targeting players who have underperformed but should break out? I guess it's just a much smaller sample size that I am used to.

Give me your redraft trading philosophy.

(I'll answer this under the assumption that you only know your brother and his player likes/dislikes)I think you are going to find trading a bit more difficult in a redraft league where you don't know the people you are playing with. I've been in the same redraft on and off for 11 years now I think and the one thing I can tell you about trades is the most important thing is to know the individual you are trading with. The main difference with a redraft is that you get different players each year but many owners still wish they had x player from the year before. It's important to know which players potential trading partners like because you can get more bang for your buck that way, and you will be less likely to waste each others time with trade offers for players they would never give up.First thing you should do would be to talk to your brother about each of the managers in the league to get an idea of their likes/dislikes and trading tendencies. Some people in my league I just don't even bother offering anything because of how they responded to trade offers I've made over the years (i.e. fair trades being counter offered heavily in their favor, or getting no response one way or the other). Then for some others you might want to keep a copy of how the draft went down because for the first 5 weeks or so every trade they consider will be partially based on where players got drafted sometimes regardless of the current situation of the players involved. And finally you get to the actual movers and shakers in the league, you'll probably find that half of them are savvy owners spotting player trends before the herd and the other half are just bad managers and give up on players early to chase players outperforming themselves.Once you know who you are working with its easier to start working those trades. I pull off about 4 trades a year 2 being major and almost every major trade I have done has been with the same person in my league. Get to know that guy and make lots of offers.And one last thing to note is that player's perceived value takes about 2-3 weeks of constant change to become the new standard. So if a guy comes out of nowhere week 1 no one will give up much for that. 2 weeks and you can start getting a little value out of it. 3 weeks and you can really start to cash in especially with players on other manager's teams who have underperformed those same 3 weeks. If it goes 4 weeks you may just want to keep that guy...
